I wish for a way to ask for an immediate skin download from within the game.
A two weeker will get maybe 1% of the skins in his 2 weeks and no chance that he will go download skins from the website and install manually. The skins are part of the bling, the bells and whistles of the game, that AH does not display enough of. The current skins rate of arrival is just WAY too slow. I still do not have all the skins and I have been here since AHIII launched for cod sake! (well, I have been here since AHI, but that is another matter).
What I suggest is that when a player pulls down the skins list and select a skin painted red, he/she gets a pop-up message in the spirit of:
"Would you like to download this skin like right NOW?"
[no] [yes] [download all skins for this model] [Giraffe]
And then give a little more bandwidth for the download. You can suspend game updates if needs be, the player is in the hangar waiting for the skins to show up anyway.
Let a new player be impressed by 20 different historical skins for his favorite plane, instead of the red list he gets now that all look like the default skin!
Let this old player get the F6F skin with the nekkid lady when he needs it like right now!
I know you can do it HTC!

It should be an option, when installing the game.

There is a link to the whole skin set somewhere on the webpage. Skuzzy has it last I checked.

Would be nice to have it in game as well to be honest instead of navigating to the website for it. I understand you guys are busy with other stuff and this is not really a priority.
The in-game download takes about 2 months to complete if i reinstall the game and no life for the next to months.
to download it from the website it requires some navigation skills. Some of our older players don't always have these skills. Just my 2 cents.

That may not work as being an in-game option. It will take internet resources to download a 1-2GB File. People will lag for sure.
That's why I mentioned (in a different thread) that there should be a check box. [X] "Would you like to download the AHIII Skins during this install", while you are
installing AHIII for the first time.

The size of the download is why I juggested to have the option to download that one skin you want NOW from within the game. Think of this as a new player. He wont be flying the 100 planes and vehicles during his 2 weeks or even the 2 weeks after. For fewer still he will be interested in changing skins.
What I suggested is for the new player to have the minimal download to get into the game. Then for his few favorites he could get a new skin right from the hangar. Suspending game continuous updates for the few seconds of getting a couple of skins at full bandwidth is not a killer.
An option for a full skins download during install is good, but this will be mostly convenience for vetran players reintalling the game

My fault. I thought you wanted to be able to download the entire set at once in-game.

Following a wishlist item http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,390234.msg5184257.html#msg5184257 (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,390234.msg5184257.html#msg5184257) to be able to select specific skins IN GAME, brought me to ponder if this link was intended to replace the CUSTOM SKINS placeholder in the current hangar helpscreen?? :pray
Note: This only allows one to download. IN GAME is there the slightest possibility of linking to the auto updater for a single selected skin???? :pray :pray

Can the skins downloader and normal .EXE be combined on the initial install of AH? The total file size would only be 2.91GB. I assume HTC wants to keep the file as small as possible, but when there are now games that are 55GB+ on Steam, 2.91GB is a drop in the bucket.

Yeah something like that would be nice at the very least. Some sort of explanation would have to be put there as to what Skins actually are (while the concept may be similar other games might call them different things).
From a size standpoint they could be grouped together and installed together without option and I doubt anyone would be upset.

Agreed.
Total file size would only be 2.91GB for both. That's nothing really these days.

Don't quote me but there are updates from time to time, so even full install may not produce up to date skins ie all.

A complete install/re-install does not install any skins.
-
Spikes is correct, fresh install does not include any skins, however I meant to refer to the "complete download" of all skins.
Any skins updated after the full list, will only appear if you leave auto updater checked and log in from time to time to allow the updates to catch up.
Just making the point that for various reasons folks like myself seem to have quite a few gaps in the skin department. Some of the gaps are by design and others are due to slack in playing time. At one time, I had turned the auto update option off due to repetition in downloads of same skins (still had skins highlighted in red and not visible in game). :o Probably related to importing *.res files from AH2.
