Last night I was tagging along with a group and we rolled a few bases along 2 different spawn lines. All is well in the world and then the GV spawn line ended and 2 different times two different guys actually asked "How do we get that?" when the next logical base didn't have a spawn line into it... What the BLEEP dudes. I remember back when I started in AH1 and one of the first things I did was try to help with a capture by flying a Goon, didn't know how to tell anyone what keypad I was in but I was trying and it wasn't a big deal to fly one.
I really enjoy the GV aspect of the game but but it seems a lot of the time that the chains of GV spawns are like a trickle of water, once the water dries up base take attempts do to. Path of least resistance and all that.
I haven't seriously attempted to make a map since AH1 (got most of it done lol) but this is really making me want to try to make something slightly less GV spawn friendly, as in where spawns go to, not the spawn area where you would get camped. Not saying I would take all spawns out but I have a few ideas that may get folks to learn to change tactics a bit....
Anyone else see this behavior. Kinda the "OMG there is no spawn to take an M3 out of!!! What do I do???"
Ok that off my chest. thoughts/observations?

I suspect part of the problem is that there are a lot of folks who group up, attack a base including deacking/flattening town, and THEN start calling for troops. I've responded a more than a few of those at bases with no spawns and I find the odds of success are about 1 in 10 in cases where the call goes out for troops so late. It's a ten minute (or more) flight, so if the first thing down is ack, and the town gets flattened over any appreciable span of time, the goon will likely fly right into popping town ack unless air cover keeps an eye on it. That and keeping an eye out for resupply efforts. Those are things I'm going to assess before opting to fly a goon at a late stage when it would have been far better to call for one earlier.
Some mission posters are wise in how they include goons, sometimes sending them out ahead taking a circuitous route. Others not so much. It's all a matter of timing. Sometimes everything is so out of sync it's not worth the effort.

Many folks like to GV. Diminishing GV capability diminishes the enjoyment of playing the game. And folks only have so many entertainment dollars in their pocket.

Observation: Geez; please don't create a GV-unfriendly map just to encourage C47 usage ... We have too many maps like that already.
Going further, why do so many of us want to force others into our style of play? Even yourself. After all, you can up a C47 now, right; why are you trying force others to do it?

No, I'm not talking about making a totally GV unfriendly map but something more along the lines of "sure you can GV and take the bases around this or that base but it would be very unwise to ignore it.".
I truly have no intention of trying to kill GV play as I really enjoy it too but when folks get on vox and act totally lost when they can't run an M3 to take a town well let's just say I felt like doing a face palm.
And I DO fly goons quite often and enjoy feeling like that sneaky commando sliding in, though getting folks that know how to cap a base tends to get me killed a lot. How ever it does get tiring when you're one of the few that are willing to do it... Anwy break is over, back to work I go. <S>

Just.. simply..
Wow..
Man, I miss the old community.

Hitech mentioned he liked on my last map feilds lacking GV access. Jinx and Deacon seem to want GV dominated terrains. You have to balance it for everyone or you will end up jumping the buzzsaw tank and Waffle had to rebuild his terrain over night because of that. I setup spawn paths to follow the air combat initiatives to keep Gvers with the air combat front. Along with feilds that would challenge the field capture players by making it a pure air combat initiative most of the time if they didn't have a task group at hand for LVT. If you build your micro terrain around every target so a few GV's dominate the target, the map will be perceived as a buzzsaw spiritual clone.
Tankers don't like getting bombed but love trees all the way up to the edge of an airfield to shut it down inside of 5 minutes. Tankers love high ground above airfields , vBases, ports and towns with trees so they can shut down the place inside of 5 minutes. When you review all of the converted AH2-->AH3 terrains, these are the two glaring over sights never addressed while fortunately only a handful of players found them and used(abused) them.
Also the new AH3 tree tiles impacted tankers negatively by placing too many trees down in the 1:1 swap of tile types during the AH2-->AH3 conversion. We have all seen the numerous posts to how AH3 is doomed because of the trees and Hitech dosen't care bout the GV game. So on BowlMA and Oceania I spent a month for each adjusting the trees to benefit tank combat without handing over the terrain to tanks shutting down targets in 5 minutes without a fight or because everyone was ignoring the flashing base.
Aces High has air combat, ground combat, and sea combat. If you purposely favor one over the other two, because you want to adjust perceived injustices to one group, you are doing the game and it's paying customers a disservice. The AvA hosts tank dominated terrains and you can ask them for their statistics on how large the hardcore tank community really is. Toys to enhance tank combat in the 100 or more micro terrains you will have to build on a MA terrain are great, I used bridges and streams in my last terrain. Dominating a terrain to favor one kind of combat over another is a hard self truth to admit to yourself if you really want balanced game play.

The C-47 was called Gooney Bird or Dakota. I guess Goon is short for Gooney Bird.
In WW2 all fighting vessels were called ships. The PT Boat and Submarines were referred to as boats.
What do I know, I'm an old man.

Not true for me. I want terrains that work for ALL platforms.
In other words, a person should be able to up a plane, GV, or whatever on any terrain, find fights, and have a reasonable ability to survive and land kills at the end. All terrains since Air Warrior in the late 1980s have achieved this for planes (I was there). The track record for GVs has been less successful.

I'm not looking to have GVs dominate. I would like to see GVs do more than just shoot buildings, however. I think it just takes a little time to understand what works and what doesn't. I'm sure better maps will come out.

The point was the lack of patience, which leads to lack of effort in using a C47 to carry troops when the (much more convenient) M3 is not an option.
End of the Line, and "What do we do now?"
Reminds me of screwing up a line of ants.

if your trying to a base and there is no gv spawn-you up a C47 (GOON) simple as that, no gv spawn close to a strat up a C47(GOON) simple as that. goons keep getting shot down? get fighter support-(Simple as that).
quit your all's whining and play the game. simple as that

The problem with bases withou spawns into them is that the defenders spawn a bunch of wirbs and tanks and then it becomes very difficult for the attackers to clear these GVs for the goon to arrive.
It only works if the attackers take the VH down right away and keep it down, and/or work very fast to WF the town and drop the drunks.
If the enemy has a remove spawn into the base and your side doesnt - forget about it, or take it on Asian time when 20 people are online.
