Hello,
Relative you all the other planes in the game, are the TU-2's modeled pretty closely to what they were capable of in WWII?
Thanks,
Slade :salute

Depending on who is using It.. some dogfight as well as a Tempest. and dive at 500 mph.

Two 1850hp engines with low empty weight makes for some fun on your way home from a bombing mission.
I was always running into fighters halfway to the enemy strats which made it a tough decision whether to drop bombs, man the defensive guns, or try to outrun the climbing interceptors.

A real one sure couldn't dogfight.

You are wrong about that.

I took a look at its' weight after it had been released and came to a conclusion that it seems to be roughly ~1600lbs underweight.

There was a pilot who flew the TU2 with aggression and he took on 4 109s shooting down one and making it back to base.
The difference in weight between a fully loaded and fueled and an empty TU2 was pretty significant.
If his opponent tries to turn with it slow, he's likely in a lot of trouble.

Interesting thread. Who knew!?
I almost want to up a TU-2, immediately dump the bombs and fly it as a twin engine fighter.
-
I used to bait buff interceptors by bringing a heavy fighter to enemy strats but the change in the map icons led me to using the Tu2 to bomb something at the strats.
The problem is your choice of fuel amount.
If you don't bring much fuel, you will certainly be light enough after you drop to put up a decent fight but know that you won't likely be making it home.
If you bring enough fuel for the return trip, you will have to stay high after bombing and maximize the distance traveled back toward your country to burn enough fuel. Then you have to pick the proper time to snap around and attack your pursuer.
It's best when they get restless and do that last zoom to your altitude and get slow.

There are way easier ways to find some quick action...

There were some women Soviet Tu-2 pilots from a squadron known to mix it up on their way back... they even had a nickname...

17,000 lb dry weight. bf 109s were designed as BnZ fighters the wing loading on those planes is substantial. and the higher 1 goes, the worse It gets. But to have a TU2 that is on par with a dedicated turner like a Spit, is what makes a fantasy game not a simulator.

Bf109 was always intended to be an interceptor. Even the late-model 109s do not have desirable characteristics for BnZ. They are energy-builders.
WMaker's conclusion is significant. Wonder why it was not addressed.

Youre exaggerating. Ill take a spit against your tu2 anytime.

I have good news for you: it isn't. :aok

A P47 or 110g will give a TU2 more trouble than it wants.
The people whining are the ones who got stung and followed a flawed interception profile which allowed the TU2 to gain a short term advantage and then made the most of it.
