Title: Cluster bombs
Post by: haggerty on January 30, 2018, 04:07:31 AM
Never heard about these before, but the Russians used cluster munitions from the IL-2 and Yak-9, apparently in large numbers.

All sides used various forms of cluster bombs, ranging from anti-armor to anti-personnel.

And incendiaries, though their utility of fire bombs in AH is dubious. The lack of any mass infantry also renders anti-personnel CBs useless in-game. Anti-armor could have some uses, as it requires less accuracy than normal bombs, but they were typically used against mass armor formations, something that is more rare in the MA than a unicorn on roller skates.

+1 as well...would be a nice weapon add-on for the Yak and Il-2 AND historically accurate.

Would be fun but as said before: in AH pilots are so accurate that regular GP- bombs are doing the job. The 4x100 kg could be just as deadly. The cluster munition needs a direct hit to cause damage and the area they cover isnt very big if you want a guaranteed kill. They would not be any wonder weapon.

With 48 droplets per drop, you could just make them cover about the same area a 500lb bomb would.  They wouldnt be anymore deadly than a regular bomb, but rather accessible to the planes that carried them.
