Bf 110E flown by Walter Ehle, group commander of II/NJG 1 in June of 1942. Ehle was one the Luftwaffe's longest serving group leaders , commanding II Gruppe from October 1940 until his death in an landing mishap November 18, 1943. 35 of his 39 total victories were scored at night and this scheme depicts his aircraft after his 6th night victory, 9th overall. The 9 kill markings on the tail have the roundels of the victim's nationality, the first 2 being Poland and the other 7 England. The green markings were common on command aircraft in the Bf 110 ranks and reference photos indicate a slightly darker color for the individual aircraft code letter "A" over the usual light gray markings. The result is a strikingly colorful scheme for a night fighter.

Wow Devil, I think black-themed skins are very difficult to get looking "right" but you've done fantastic work! The engine exhaust stains over the black wing look particularly spot-on. Sure to be a crowd-pleaser in the MA. :salute

Very nice Devil, sure to get a lot of use.

Looks awesome! :aok

Hmmm active night camo? Good if I'm flying, bad if I'm not... Imagine night time with no icons and on the deck... yikes that'd be hard to see.
Looks amazing! :salute

Your black has a beautiful dynamic to it of how weathered black under sunlight has a spectrum of color responses. WoW!!

Just saw the pictures of this on facebook, that is heartbreakingly good!!! Love that skin!!! :aok :aok :aok

What shade is your Env Map for the black pant?

It's RGB 7,7,7
I use a similar value for all painted surfaces on all my skins. I hate the way the environmental reflections look. so I mute the hell out of them.

You are not getting the “negative image” thing in shadow, either. (That purple hue that affects dark hues when shadowed.)
I can’t get colors to work when you guys give me palette numbers, unfortunately.

If you are still getting blacks that turn gray in shadows, then your black is too dark. I work with black a ton because of the German crosses on the wings. I've settled on black paint being only 85% black. It never looks off in shadows.
Let's look at my skin in the GIMP window. I also have the color selection window open so you can see where to plug in RGB numbers.

The night fighter color is the selected color in the window. You can see all the elements that make up this specific shade. It is represented by positions on 6 sliders. H is "hue", S is "saturation" and V is "value". The bottom 3 make up the RGB - red, green, and blue. Just plug in a given RGB number set into those areas and the top 3 sliders will adjust accordingly. Now pay attention to the position of the V slider. That slider moves from 0(Black) to 100(White) and can indicate just how bright a given color is.
So RLM 22 is RGB 42/41/46 and the V for that RGB is 18 - meaning 18% white
The black I use - found in the shield emblem - is RGB 38/38/38 with a V of 15.
The black in the cannon ejection chute is RGB 26/26/26 with a V of 10.
Pure black is RGB 0/0/0 and the V is also 0
It's not the Hue that eliminates the gray-out of black, but the Value. You do not want to go all black, just mostly black.

Excellent explanation. Now I understand what you guys mean when you throw those numbers at me. :rofl :aok
I've been trying to use different E values to tone down that purple hue with limited success. My invasion stripes are particularly susceptible to the phenomenon. It always winds up being a compromise.
Thanks for the info, sir. :salute
