Title: Ditching
Post by: Vraciu on February 24, 2018, 08:41:00 AM
Can I get a summary of ditching rules in FSO?

For example, does a ditch in friendly territory count as a death/kill if you’ve been shot up?

Counts as a kill for the other side.  You land safe or not at all.

We have a game setting where ditches count as kills. That means if you were damaged by enemy fire and ditch OR you ditch within Maneuver Kill Range, you will show up in the logs a recorded kill.

When scoring FSO, if you show up as a recorded kill, for any reason (ditch, crash, POW) you will be scored as a kill.

Lastly, it depends on the FSO admin on how he records the loss. Me personally, if you are recorded as an awarded kill, then the other side receives points for your loss.

I have also noticed a lot of people riding their chute for an extended period of time in all 3 frames. Last week one of our squaddies shot one out of the air. They announced their intent and then acted. That was like a 10 second + window. Shouldn't take more than 3 to 5 seconds to end flight. Just sayin.  :huh

I noticed some people "Skillfully Ditched" and guessed that had to do with not being pinged by anyone.

If you ditch and it awards a kill does it say, "Killed by xxxx (Ditched)"?   I've seen Exploded and another term or two that seem to break kills out by type.

In my case I was PW and on short final when I bled out for the last time.  Was just wondering if I should have put it in the grass.   Guess it didn't matter.

Intense stuff.  I was swarmed so fast I thought I'd hit a killer bee hive.

I was riding my chute as an observer last week and someone shot me.  I thought that was lame.

Per the rules, you must tower immediately whether you bail or ditch.

Well, I am a noob so I was enjoying the dogfight.   Nothing nefarious (pun).

Is this a scoring thing?

It's more of a rule to prevent people from gaming the game.

Bailing around ships and fields will draw AAA away from other attackers, and the chute itself will set the range warning off, making it appear that enemy are within the radar ring but not and lastly, we've had instances of pilots sneaking up on rearming pilots and popping them with a 45.

If you ditch and it awards a kill does it say, "Killed by xxxx (Ditched)"?

It doesn't appear to display like that... For example. My squaddie Muttman ditched successfully.

Quote
Muttman
22:05:23 Departed from Field #75 in a FM2
22:28:43 Shot down a Ki-67 flown by Reaper24.
22:28:50 Helps USNavy shoot down Reaper24.
22:29:05 Helps Trap78 shoot down Kanth.
22:29:39 Helps DamPhyNo shoot down Kanth.
22:29:56 Skillfully ditched.

But the kill was awarded to Closer.

Quote
Closer
22:05:13 Departed from Field #90 in a Ki-67
22:29:30 Shot down a F6F-5 flown by JDog.
22:29:56 Shot down a FM2 flown by Muttman.
22:30:11 Was shot down by and captured.

I have helped one the first frame find the tower.  It's all about customer service.  :aok

it has been a problem in the past where people bail on a de acked field and then .45 people to death on the re arm pad.

Truly.  Regardless of the ditch, whether a kill is awarded or not, the points for the aircraft are lost unless you land successfully.

I heard that part.  In my case I was by my own field.   Just wanted to see the action for a second.   Now I know...

True.  But I would have some of my pride left.

Uh, that's what I was doing.

I was an observer.  He got shot down.    I was looking down watching the fight and got shot in the chute.  I wasn't even a combatant at any point and the chute killing was a bit of a surprise.
