This morning I've had at least 10-12 game freezes. It seems to happen most when I look around the cockpit. I don't think I've completed a single sortie without having to ctrl+alt+del to force shutdown the game in task manager. I have my settings low graphic wise. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated as the game is near impossible to play with constant freezes. Dx9 version. Here is my dxdiag:

Are you running any anti-xxxx software?
Sounds like something is interfering with the game. Did it just start happening after the patch? That is a good indicator some anti-xxxx software could be interfering.
I was just online and no one else seems to be having any trouble.
-
Just MSE. It happened sporadically before the patch but now its like every single sortie. I tried to tell/ask you while you were in the Arena but I keep freezing before I could type it to you.
-
I disabled MSE and it still freezes.
-
Does the computer lock up or is the game just getting paused? Does sound stop playing, or does it repeat ad infinitum?
You did not happen to get the recent updates for the Meltdown/Spectre fiasco? Those updates WILL cause stability and performance problems.
-
Sounds stop, game freezes. I can Alt/tab out of game and everything else with the computer works. Alt/tab back in and still frozen. I'm not sure what the Meltdown/Spectre fiasco is. Let me look into that.
-
Ok, the game is not frozen, per se. Something in Windows is waiting for an interrupt which is not happening.
Does the computer happen to have multiple sound devices and are not using all of them?
By the way, abnormal aborts of the game can cause a lot of other game problems due to configuration files getting corrupted. You might have to rename the "settings" folder to something else.
Could you post your entire DXDIAG output as an attachment? Not sure why everyone thinks they have to post the actual file.
-
I am using G35 headset but I do have speakers plugged into the back. Here is the DxDiag.
-
Your page file usage seems very high. How many background processes are running?
What kind of network/Internet connection are you running?
-
70 processes. cpu usage jumps from 0-3% every couple seconds. Wired FIOS 100/100 just speed tested at 101.16dn/78.27up
-
So I renamed settings folder and now everything is default. What can I copy over from renamed settings folder so I don't have to remap everything and download all the skins again?
-
70 processes for Windows7 is pretty high, getting rid of half of them should be doable, getting to some 40 ish is a novice level task.
Look what you have running, do a google search if you can't figure out what each process does. If you find programs you definitely never use, simply uninstall them. For the rest, find their settings and disable any automatic features. Programs like Real Player tend to add all sorts of applets doing mostly unnecessary tasks, as well as household printers/multifunctionals. When was the last time you partook a customer satisfaction survey for your printer??? Very rudimentary but surprisingly effective.
-
If you have jumps to 3% activity when no programs are running, then you have something ill-behaved on your computer. That type of usage can cause all manner of problems.
A fairly clean Windows 7 system has about 35 processes running and 0% activity when nothing is running on the desktop.
-
So I renamed the settings folder and started the game. Once in the game I quit the game and copied all the new files from the new settings folder over to the old settings folder I renamed and overwrote the existing files. Renamed original settings back to settings while renaming the newer settings folder to something else and it appears it is working again. I was able to play for the last hour without any freezes to the game.
-
Scratch that. Getting game freezes again :bhead
-
Like I said before, getting 3% usage when the system should be at 0% can cause all manner of problems. You have to find the bad application doing that and shut it down.
There is nothing we can do when we cannot count on resources being available when they should be.
-

You're saying that 97% of free usage is not enough to run AH on an overclocked CPU running 4.6GHz? I just did the create a new settings folder again and it seems to be working again for a little while. I don't know what is corrupting the game.
-
It is not about the amount of usage, it is about an application running when nothing should be running. It is a bad application doing that and there is no way to know what resources are being impacted by it.
We have no control over being interrupted by bad applications in the Windows environment.
Files being corrupted usually means there is something interfering with normal file I/O operations. Something, possibly, intercepting those operations and causing the corruption.
Normal Windows 7 machines have half the number of background processes running than your computer does. I have no idea what has been installed on that computer outside the normal Windows background processes. There is not way to accurately gauge the impact all those background processes can have. All I know is this. It is not normal, by a large margin and the impact that many processes can have is innumerable.
-
So literally a minute after I posted I get a BSOD. :rofl Even your forums aren't working right (sarcasm). Time to start shopping for parts for a new PC build. :salute
-
Let me put this in perspective for you. I have over 80 applications installed on my home personal computer and yet there are only 34 background processes running.
How in the world does your computer have 70 background processes running on it?
Buying another computer may not solve your problem if you are not aware of how all those background processes got installed in the first place.
-
I built this computer in 2010 or 2011. A lot of applications have been installed over the last 7 years especially for school. MS office full suite, Photoshop, Lightroom, VS2010 for CObol, VS2013, Codeblocks, eclipse, netbeans, work PLC applications, etc etc. My computer has had over 70 processes running on it for years and I've never encountered this problem. Also no other program encounters this problem. Photo processing takes up a lot of resources and I don't have any issues. I agree with you that its definitely on my end I just don't understand how nothing else seems to suffer the way AH does. There is no way every single player is playing with a fresh install OS computer.
-
It might just be that the other programs do their stuff so much slower that the issues don't occur. AH writes and rewrites data continuously during the game so a collision is much more potential than with for example Office or Photoshop. Why it hasn't happened earlier might be like the single straw breaking the camel's back. But all this is just educated guessing, it may be a ton of other things.

Silver, try going to
www.blackviper.com
He offers several different ways to set up and tweak Windows 7
Plus even offers an .exe file people can download to shutdown processes and services, if a person does not feel comfortable going in and cleaning up and tweaking their OS manually
Hope this helps
