It's the bug inherent to older skins made with out the proper specularity maps.
They look awful and should have been eradicated from the game.

I went into this issue in this thread (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,389868.msg5179495.html#msg5179495), using a Panther skin to illustrate what happens when certain AH3 skin files are not present. IIRC a subsequent AH patch notes mentioned something about fixing this issue for Panther skins, although I never checked to see if this is the case. This didn't really address the problem anyway as shiny syndrome affects all old AH skins that lack AH3 lighting maps, not just Panthers.
Simply getting rid of the 100s of old skins affected by this issue is a can of worms for HTC. If they did this there would undoubtedly be forum complaints and rage quit threats from those whose favourite skins had been dropped. It would be better if HTC could find a way for the game to default to a sensible specularity level for any skins that lack AH3 lighting maps.

This is why I only use newer skins.
Greebo, vraciu, devil, oboe, fencer..
Who else has made ah3 skins? Are fencer's skins in there as something other than fencer?

If you check out Skuzzy's new AH Skins Page (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/skins/index.php) you can find out which skins have the newer files. Just click on any skin and it has a list of the included files. In general any skin that shows a screenshot is likely to at least have a specular and normal map which is all that is needed to avoid AH shiny syndrome.
