Title: Disable AAA in off-line arena
Post by: 2Slow on March 15, 2018, 07:11:48 PM
I knew this a long time ago but now I do not remember how to do it.  I want to disable or tone down AAA in an off-line arena.  I have done this before to allow one to run carpet bombing missions at a low altitude so that my screen shots and film record a clearer result.  This allows one to confirm that the salvo and delay installs carpet well.

When you start Aces High you'll see Graphic Detail on the clipboard.

 :headscratch:

Once in your off line arena, click on

Options
Arena Setup
Environment
Arena settings

select the tab "Weapons" at the top.

I believe the lower the number the weaker the setting. Remember to save.

Read it as AA.  :D

Thanks for the info.  It is what I was looking for.

Just bomb friendly targets, so that the AA will not shoot at you. Uncheck "Protect Objects" in arena settings to make the objects destructible.
Not only that there will be no AA fire at all, but you can take off from the base you will be attacking, potentially sparing you some time.

For added efficiency when doing repeated tests / runs, go to object settings and lower the downtimes according to your needs.

You can build a simple offline only terrain with an airfield that you place air spawns over along with whatever field, vbase, and strats you want around it as bombing targets all in the same country. Then set unprotect objects and attack and bomb away. The airspawns will save you lots of time if you are practicing jabo or level bombing. I build them all the time to test features for my MA terrain work.

Or.....what targets do you want and I'll have a zip download package for you in a day or so. One airfield and a few targets should take about an hour or so as an offline only practice terrain...

Bustr, I would like one of those simple terrains with an air spawn to practice bombing town primarily, but any size airfield for hanger practice would also be good.  Spawn set so approach aligned with the town long axis.  Will the spawn altitude be fixed or variable?  Tried to do this with staged missions, but can't because of the fact salvo settings don't work with a bomber formation.

When you set an air spawn you have to set a direction the plane will point. The directions will correspond to the num pad that you launch your plane with. A small airfield allows me 6 aircraft air spawns with fixed relative headings when you click on them. So that is 6 altitudes available. As for targets, you know what field objects are available from playing the game, what do you want on the ground to bomb? Offline it's easier to put all the objects in Country-1, un-protect all objects, and bomb your own feilds. Save's transit time and you don't get dinged by ack if you don't fly in formation with the drones, or just disable all drones. There is a check box next to each drone for that.

My only real limitation is I have to have a one mile separation between all field and strat objects in any combination. So all of your targets can be clumped pretty close to save you time. Just air spawn, drop your load, tower, air spawn again. For offline you can set the game so you can tower out while in motion. Since this is offline only, all of this works for practice and how I test features quickly for my MA terrain. Remember to adjust the fog so you can see past a few miles.....

So your home base will be a small field that I can setup 6 bomber and 6 fighter air spawns, I need to know your bomber alts. One fighter alt to get just above the drones and another to get you at a good jabo alt is what I practice with. And If I create a mesa next to the field 660ft lower than the drone path with a GV spawn, you can practice shooting at the drones from realistic distances for the MA. I can even throw in a 37mm and 88mm position.

This terrain will have to be downloaded from my google drive as a zip becasue it will not pass the error check to get onto the custom terrain HOST. But, it's just an offline test\practice terrain.... If you want I'll zip the whole project so you can play with it in the terrain editor.

I've hit burn out on mountain building again from my new MA terrain.

Bustr, thanks.  Alts of 3k, 5k, 7k, 10k, 12k and 15k would be good.  I would appreciate the terrain project package.  I have never opened the terrain editor and it would be easier to start with something other than a blank.  I am mostly interested in the white flagging of the town since I have had mixed results on that and want something repeatable to try various things.

mustang,

It's not much, 64x64 map size.

1. Feilds SL, L, M, S with towns.
2. From the central S field bomber air spawns as you specified.  W\E spawns on runway. Start in the NW at 15,000, go clockwise down to 3k. Added three fighter air spawns, start NW, 7000ft, go clockwise.
3. Mesa has a wirble spawn and a 37mm and 88mm. Added an 88mm out to the NW to give you 5k range at drones.
4. A port with a CV\BB task groups and two shore battery.

1. - Download the zip file and unzip inside of the "Hitech Creations\ Aces High III\ah3terr" game folder.
2. - Then from the folder "Hitech Creations\ Aces High III\ah3terr\oflintrn" copy oflintrn.res into the "ah3terr" game folder.
3. - Start up AH3 and pick that terrain and open for offline mode. Then close it down.
4. - From the ah3terr\oflintrn folder copy oflintrn.var to the "Hitech Creations\Aces High III\chconfig\oflintrn" folder.
5. - Now go offline and protect objects off, haze will be gone, lead computing gunsight, dive bombing gunsight, see GV's from air to 4k, fuel burn .010, 10x ammo.
6. - In the objects management you can set objects to be down for 60sec and such.

Once you get the project files in the correct place then you can open it in the terrain editor. Startup the TE, from the file menu "open", navigate to the oflintrn folder and find oflintrn.oba and click open. Then have fun. This thing will only work in offline mode, if you want to upload it to the custom terrain HOST, you will need to add an HQ for all three countries and at least one field in each of the other two. Then run a build all for roads and train tracks and a bunch of irritating stuff. So you will need to contact Easyscor and members of the terrain building teams to get a copy of the terrain editor manual and guidance on really building terrains. If you make any changes to this one, it will only work offline unless you go the full monti. This is basically what I use to test ideas before building them into my MA terrain.

Not much but it gives you the basics.

Bustr, much thanks.  got it and it works like a champ.  Just what I needed.  Strongly recommend it to anyone wanting to improve their bombing skills.

If you are chasing drones, ack will hit you from time to time when you un protect objects. That was one of the first reasons I built an offline training terrain with air spawns.
