Title: Twitch
Post by: pope14 on March 23, 2018, 03:51:01 PM
A few others and myself are broadcasting on Twitch trying to maybe get a few new eyes on the game and if you would like to check us out here are some links.

https://www.twitch.tv/kanth_ (https://www.twitch.tv/kanth_) Kanth plays some IL2 and Aces High

https://www.twitch.tv/cincynick2015 (https://www.twitch.tv/cincynick2015) LNG15 plays Aces High

https://www.twitch.tv/pope_a_d0pe (https://www.twitch.tv/pope_a_d0pe) Myself and I play Aces High, KSP, and others

If anyone else streams feel free to add it. If you do stop by one of our streams feel free to follow and watch. If you do please don't stream snipe. Most of us have different stream time but I believe we all stream FSO. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask.

Start a networking twitch, I stream there as well. If enough of us stream we should, in theory, generate some interest.

How do you deal with possible snipers? I have thought about streaming FSO but not sure how to deal considering I'd have to have a delay, hide the map, text buffer, and remove voice somehow.

I over size my game just a bit in OBS so it only shows chat if I expand it. I don't pull up the map unless I have to and if I do I pop it up for a second. I do believe there is a setting in OBS for delaying a bit however from my end OBS to my phone takes about 30 seconds which I'm ok with. In the end if someone really wants to there is no stopping that because even if you put a delay on they have an idea of your alt and they know what base is the target. Even huge streamers get sniped playing games like Fortnite with a player base of at least a million in 100 player battles. I would just ask your squad if it was alright and try it out.

Gotcha. BR games are quite a bit different in the fact that once they're in the arena, they're in. Not to mention they are battles after battles, 20-50 in a day rather than one single event once a week. One person on the opposing side of FSO watching would be much more detrimental than 20 stream snipers in a game of Fortnite or PUBG (not to mention they usually suck and just troll anyway).

I really hate that people have to think about that as streaming seems to be a fun thing/good advertising.  Would it lose much if you just posted it after FSO was over, like on a 3 hour delay?  Keeping the radio box offscreen seems like a good idea too.

I wanted to live stream a Scenario, but I just couldn't get past the ability of someone to use it for cheating.

The live aspect of it has appeal to people that watching it on a 3-hour delay doesn't have.

Also, some folks want to interact with the person who is streaming.  So if you did it on a 3-hour delay, you would play in the event, then spend all that time again sitting there being available for people to interact with once you do show it.

I really wish I could live stream a Scenario.

This one's me: https://www.twitch.tv/flyin_drano (https://www.twitch.tv/flyin_drano)

The name is a new one. The other was too convoluted. I generally don't stream event frames as I'm thinking of idiots with ulterior motives watching that might screw up the plan. It sucks ya got to figure that in as I agree it's a great thing to have insofar as game promotion. I'll go live for a few hours usually afterwards tho. Not a whole lot on there as my vids expire before I have time to chop out any of the hightlights. Or lowlights in most cases!

Followed and auto hosted also. Auto hosting is when you are streaming and were not you show up on our stream showcasing you. It helps people find you from other streams. You can host by typing "/host (persons name)" IE "/host Kanth_" in your channels chat.

I watched Kanth's video Fortress Europe beta event (https://www.twitch.tv/videos/242555203) on Twitch the other day and I really enjoyed the action.
I just wondered why the video doesn't fill my monitor..  There are black bars on the sides.
Anyways, thanks for the time you guys/gals take into making these videos available on Twitch & YouTube.   :salute

There are a few reasons why it doesn't reach the sides.  One is because I fly using the Oculus and so basically, if could see what i'm seeing, it'd be looking at two of those boxes sitting side by side one for the left eye and one for the right. So you are actually seeing the view just  from one of my eyes (which is also why the gunsite will never look centered in the recording)

Now i could stretch that box to fit the window but it would lose even more resolution than it does from my meager .6 upload. It would look blurry.
So you're seeing the best i can upload, using the rift view and my very weak upload speed. (I live out in the woods and am lucky to even have DSL)

I figured it was probably something to do Oculus.  I think I'd rather see the videos as you're doing them now, rather than stretched out.  Besides it's no biggie I was just curious.

I’m gonna go live on twitch to show how I manipulate files in Photoshop to create land mass and basic GEO features for the terrain editor.

It will be far from perfect but it should be somewhat informative.

I post on the support forums (https://obsproject.com/forum/members/boildown.2086/#recentActivity) for OBS all the time, so if any of you guys have an issue that no one picked up on there, pm me here and I'll take a look.

I really hate that people have to think about that as streaming seems to be a fun thing/good advertising.  Would it lose much if you just posted it after FSO was over, like on a 3 hour delay?  Keeping the radio box offscreen seems like a good idea too.

The following only applies if you're using OBS to stream, but I'm pretty sure OBS still limits you to a 900 second (15 minute) delay.  I asked for a longer delay years ago (https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/stream-ends-immediately-instead-of-finishing-delayed-stream.5713) but the main developer couldn't comprehend my reasons for wanting it.  So assuming that's still the case (I haven't attempted to use a long delay in many versions now), you'd be better off just recording the video to your hard drive and uploading it as a file later (to Twitch, or YouTube).

There was a previous discussion on stream-sniping / scenario streaming here: http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,378775.0.html that is a good read.  In the past 2 years, things have evolved further and Twitch isn't nearly so niche anymore.  I personally think each commander should ban his side from live-streaming the event, and perhaps some neutral admin players could stream it instead in such a way to be sure not to give anything away.  Set it up like sports announcers with live-lookins (ala NASCAR), but don't bring up anything tactical or strategic that only one side can see... public info only.

Would like to see this they could show major air combat or bases being hit with a 5-10 min delay and talk about the real battle or planes during the down time.

I decided to try streaming FSO last frame. I covered the chat buffer, barely brought up the clipboard map, and had a 5 minute delay. IMO that delay was plenty sufficient given the setup we are running this month. Action is quick and getting info 5 minutes after real time is practically useless. I could see it being a problem in a traditional 8th AF vs Luft setup where you are on a specific course for the better half of an hour or more.

Next frame I may drop it down to 3 minutes.
