Title: Graphics upgrade advice
Post by: Max on June 09, 2018, 08:54:53 AM
The crypto price pressure seems to be waning on graphic cards a bit, so I'm considering upgrading from my present situation which involves a 27" Samsung 1080 monitor + Evga Super clocked  760 GTX 2 G card...which handles AH3 surprisingly well...solid 55-60 FR (shadows off)

I'd like to upgrade to a 32" monitor (old eyes that have spent too many hours gaming) My budget is $600 - $700 fpr card and monitor. At that range, 4K monitors are out so I look for a decent 1440 32" and came up with AOC Q3277FQE 5 ms for $299.99. Is anyone familiar with this one, of AOC in general? Is the 5ms response OK?

As for the card, am I correct in assuming a 1050 GTX Ti card is under powered for the above monitor? Best Buy lists an EVGA GTX 3 GB 1060 single fan card for $249.99.

Bottom line, given the 1440 32" monitor and the 1060 card, how much overall visual improvement will I see?

Thanks

I went from a 32 1080p TV to a 27 inch Samsung 144 mhz monitor it improved my viewing immensely. No more jaggys, smooth with an an excess of 60 frames. No micro delays. Really sharp picture. And this is with maxed settings.

I am running a GTX 970 video card. I think we are probably about 2 months out for prices to drop to a reasonable level on video cards.

alskahawk is somewhat correct regarding possible price drops on video cards..... actually price drops / discounts on all computer components including monitors...

In roughly 2 months there will be "Going back to School" sales all over the place... Like at Newegg, Amazon, etc....

So I would recommend that you do some research and comparing (and saving), while you are waiting for those "back to school" sales to start kicking in....

one should never even consider buying the 3GiB 1060 - too easy to waste potential if gfx mem runs out. 6GiB Version is the one to get

Going from a 27" 1920x1080 monitor to a 32" 2560x1440 monitor gives you about a 10% increase in the pixels/inch.

I just did the very same thing.  It is striking how much of an improvement in the quality of visuals.

I cannot comment on the quality of the AOC monitor.
