If possible I want the full resolution version. I’ve done ten print screens but I would love the whole thing zoomed in 1:1 so I don’t miss something.
Also, where is the yellow stripe on the wing? Outboard of the inner gun bay doors? It’s like this thing has multiple stripes or stripes that were removed and reapplied.

What’s up,with the wing stripes inboard? I’m thoroughly confused as to where they really are. I say outboard of the inner gun bay doors...probably further out than I have them.
Can you dig up any of “Penrod” before it became “Chinese Laundry”/“It’s A Dog”? I’ve only found two.

Only have two most likely the same ones as you. Partial of the nose and name left side.

That right side I don't have. Have the nose with two guys and a left side with pilot and drop tanks of the whole plane.

One of the close ups of a cockpit show all the rivet heads having weathered off white\gray or almost chromate yellow. Was that normal for aluminum finishes weathered in the field?

could be rust if the rivets are steel.

That’s my take. It could be aluminum, too, but I’m leaning toward yellow
Any evidence of a theater band inboard of that anywhere? Look right above his hat...

This aircraft would later be flown by Lieutenat Harold Kick with the markings "Chinese Laundry" on the left cowling, and "It's a Dog" on the right. It was one of the last three P-51Bs in the group. Lieutenant Kick said of the airplane:
"The 325th began receiving the bubble canopy Mustangs in October 1944. Most pilots wanted to fly them. When I had enough missions to be able to choose a plane. I chose #69. If it was good enough for Capt Hogg our Squadron C.O., it must be a good plane. I flew over 40 missions in #69 and never had any problems. the plane was maintained beautifully. I still regret that such a beautiful and expensive plane was cut up for junk. Today it would be worth $1,000,000.00."

Just at the leading edge? I'm pretty sure that is the landing light cover - you can see it more clearly in the drawing.

Outstanding. Images 2 and 3 confirm some things we (don't) see in the right side Penrod photo you posted before.
So....theater bands are clearly not present. I'll go with the red and yellow stripes at the tips, inboard of the tip fairing, since that's what Penrod had. The painted tips came later.

Any idea what the circle is on the ammo compartment door outboard of the fuel cap?
I am also of the belief that I am not seeing a wing stripe here as other photos show one outboard of this location Could it have been moved? What is this? (Edit in: Or we are just seeing the corner of it at lower left.)
