I wish the storch could actually see GVs that shut down and hide in thick brush a little easier.
My wish is to somehow give the stortch advantage to spot a GV when within 100 to 300 yards (or something to the effect).
Lately, people park a GV under thick brush then go do something in RL for 10 to 20 minutes. Often times, you can fly directly over a parked GV in thick brush and never see it. I have seen people log out of the game to find them on film then come back to find them. Too gamey IMHO.
Any input? Is that even possible?

Did Storch pilots have this magical ability in real life?

I think Hitech pulled in the area around trees that catch tanks some time back so they can get trough thickets. And I've noticed a lot of bushes and even small trees can now be driven through. If you pull into the middle of those drive through types and shut down, it's almost impossible to see your GV from the air.
Cybro lands an SBD into bamboo groves, bushes and small trees, shuts down and players now just run a film to find him.
I was trying to deliver supply's in an M3 and pulled into a bamboo grove and shut down. The red guys just flew over me and didn't see me. One of my squad mates told me he was in an M4 and pulled into the only bush in a field, shut down and the red guys could not find him. He got a bunch of main gun kills on planes before they figured out where he was. He suspected they ran a film.
I watched an M8 do this while circling in a storch. It was pulled into the only green bush for 100yds in the open. I allowed myself to be killed many times to see where the tracers came from and try and determine if I was looking at a bug to report to Hitech. I asked a tank to drive up to the bush and see what was in it. The player was a few yards away and said nothing was there. I asked him to lob a round into the bush and he got an explosion from the M8 blowing up. It surprised the heck out of him becasue he only saw a tiny green bush in front of him.
The GVDAR block is an equivalent exchange I suspect for that semi invisibility. Still, players are opting for the film more often as their first line of finding GV's after a very short time investment trying to find it from the air. This whole thing is evolving our game play on both sides into blatant gaminess more so than a fun combat game. If you don't find the gamey GVer and leave out of frustration for the fun you are really paying for. You have just given your field over to one weenie because of how vulnerable our feilds really are to a single unopposed tank. Funny how feilds auto defend themselves better against planes but, not tanks. If you opt to stay, being frustrated, you film, locate the GV then egg him. Then the GVer ups again and some people allow one player to eat their evening like this making them dislike the game. Others give the greifer the field becasue they are paying to have fun and not be some griefer's girl friend all night long. The greifer wins both ways and makes players dislike the game while not caring if the doors end up closing due to no customers. The competitors have some great Quake Tourney style mini terrains and good graphics so the greifers just move on to the next game.
Our game is slowly devolving into an 8th grader mentality greifer game this way and not a combat game. But, by today's cultural norms, the whole paradigm of combat versus greifing dressed up as something noble is being tilted towards greifing and getting away with less than noble intentions. And the competitions tiny arenas glorify and promote it. Since so many I've watched in my research of their videos just drive around and greif each other paying lip service to any idea of combat. Looks like just Quake Tourney in tanks. That is why I keep describing their games as super mario brothers keystone cops with shot guns, or greifer wars.

6K GV icons is the only way to bring back balance to the MA.

For me, well-hidden vehicles are kinda fun in the game. The times I've been involved with ops to locate and destroy a hidden vehicle made for great teamwork and coordination among players - both air and ground.
Trying to think out of the box so bear with me. What about giving the Jeep driver a pair of zoom binoculars that give the viewer 6K icon visibility, or something along those lines?
The Jeep can already carry troops or deliver supplies; this feature would enhance its capability in another role - scout vehicle.
I'd also add the Jeep's motor should be much quieter than a tank's engine. And for the win, give the Jeep driver the ability to dismount, walk around, and re-mount the vehicle. Now that would be cool. Only IMO of course. YMMV.

Not bad ... if doable. :)

Most people are aware that parking a M3 in a single bamboo tuft renders that M3 invisible from the air. Even if they leave the engine on and you fly right over it you can hear it but never see it.

Not really gamey. That is how they spotted many German tanks in WWII in the hedgerows. Using L4's with a pilot and spotter taking film and stills and dropping the exposed film near a processing unit that passed the intel on to arty or ground attack aircraft.
-
Tanks being hidden is realistic and taught to all tankers in the real world. Not all tank battles in the ETO took place in open terrain like those on the Eastern front. Ambushes were common by German tankers. That said, I don't think it is good for our game using the film as a tank detector. It is just as close to the c word as using a software lag switch in first person shooter games to ghost other players. They are now free and ubiquitous all over the online gaming community and used in any game they can make an impact by degrading your own home network connection. You could argue in some ways resorting to either is a personal choice and just the price of playing in an online game these days. We still land kills in spite of such things.
I wish there can be some compromise that helps take using film off the table as the go to solution these days. From what I hear in Rookland that is the only way to find cybro anymore because of how good he has become at hiding an SBD in bushes. It's not good for our community in a way becasue some are beginning to believe cybro is someone's second account being used as a forward observer. Skyrr and his antics to this day have players calling others the c word if anything remotely seems similar to him. Is this a good thing for cybro?
You can see how things like this can create hardened institutional biases that are not good for the game. Biases like that are underlain by the hopeless feelings of why even bother taking part if you have to start doing what a few are doing just to be competitive. Then the game stops being about learning skills for playing the game and more about learning how to game the game just to be on par. Then it is a few dictating to the many their fun for $14.95 since you don't know who, when, or where.
Maybe this will blow over but, "gamers" will always look for anything they can that leverages the game outside the norm in their favor on the slipper slope of gaming the game. With no shame to its effect on the community of the game since they will be winning at all costs while the community is crying like little girls. Gotta admit it has always been fun to walk around in a first person shooter in godmode at least once. Any more and it becomes addictive.

Or maybe just give the Jeep the same extended GV icon range as the Storch - another way to find GVs but this time from ground level.

All great points and good conversation. I agree bustr.
My wish is that the storch, at minimum, have an ability to see a GV because that is what it was intended for. Albeit only within a certain distance. My view, however distorted, is it is intended to be a GV scout plane in AH. It should have some sort of advantage to spot GVs IMHO. Fighter and attack planes that show up to assist in attacking, certainly attack storches. The storch has no real advantage and usually die by other fighters or by the GVs they are hunting.
The storch having an ability to assist in spotting GVs only adds to the fun of a full scale battle raging on and forces the GVers to move around and fight on the ground. Don't like the storch with that type of ability? Drop the hanger as a strategy / tactic.
I am seriously not complaining about anyone's game play. But you have to admit that 1 GV (a side with numbers) can pull 3 to 5 players from a low side country for an hour just trying to find a tank tucked away in a bush on open field and never see it.
Merely wishing the storch actually be productive to the mission it was added to AH for.

How about the ability to exit a vehicle walk around, to search, then re enter your vehicle?

So a player would have the ability to see the vehicle while on the ground walking around, but not see that same vehicle from his jeep, tank or other ground vehicle, and still not see it from a low, slow flying aircraft at tree top level?

Slaxer bailed from a Storch one night and found me on foot. He could not see my M-8 tucked into the thick tree leaves.
btw......my buddy Slaxer is gonna pay for that. :rofl

And I still think binocular view for the zoom function is cool. Could our figure, while outside the vehicle, have the appearance of an infantry soldier rather than a pilot?

While your at it Hitech, give the jeep soldier anti-tank grenades, smoke grenades, tommy gun, binoculars and the ability to steal an enemy vehicle if it is left unattended by the enemy. :devil
Now that could add a whole new aspect to the game. I would love to creep around and blow up a clueless enemy vehicle or steal it while the enemy is taking a wiz in the bushes.

or you can get a rear seater/gunner to help you search, 4 eyes are better than 2

Give the GV commander binoculars in and out of the tank. Unless zoom as it is, is the maximum magnification for far objects you allow in the game.

I like 1 eyes idea. You exit your vehicle and you could go steal the others guys vehicle. Of course he would have to find yours or it is a long ways back on foot. :rofl
Any countries empty vehicle is up for grabs.

If I remember.........the very first vehicles allowed one to bail.
I believe there was no resort but to walk(run) back to base.
But, Mr Hitech, Sir...if one can re 'mount' a vehicle....could a downed pilot .mount. a friendly veh/multiseat plane???
And, because no one expects it.............SEAPLANES.

I'm thinking Cats, He 115, Kingfishers(launch off capital ships), the He float.....
Sorry if I high jacked thread...it is Hitechs fault...yeah....made me think of 'what could be'...keeps me payin my money, Sir. Keep up your reaching...it exceeds your grasp.

I disagree.
I mean, how much neutering can the GV aspect take?
For someone who goes afk, assuming mind you, while shut off and hiding under massive tree coverage, that's part of the game. Stuff happens where you have to go and take care of something away from the computer(afk) or you just like being a dick an like flashing a base. People in planes do it also, "afk" while flying
Who is to stay and know the reason of shutting your engine off? You don't know. How about the tank is trying not to get outed out getting killed.
Sometimes, in a GV battle, your impatience is what gets you killed when there are other GVs have their engine off and waiting for each other to turn on and move.
The wish for a Storch to fly with 100-300 yards to magically appear call it out to kill it when the tank is hiding a good coverage of foliage is preposterous. Another "gaming aid" to neuter the GV aspect really.

If you turn off post lighting, GV's stand out under trees like they did in AH2. And that weird thing bushes do to vehicles when they are parked in them and shut down stops happening. How you can park an M8 in a bush, shut down and it becomes klingon cloaked. You still need to be close enough to pick out a fender or tire. Or see the 50cal sitting above the bush.

Few days back there was a GV hiding near an airfield and I could not see it from many search passes from a B25H. There was a friendly tank searching for it as well. Someone reported it being seen close to the field so I landed next to the tank off field selected F5 external view together with F8 and started to sweep along the ground through all thick bushes in range while using view range in/out etc. Located the hidden Wirble at the edge of my max view range and then gave VOX directions for the GV. Maybe too gamey but did require some teamwork/ communication for success. Kind of like exiting your aircraft and running around.

Would that include the ability to continue on a walk about even though the vehicle exited from gets popped by some sniper?

I don’t see that any different than real world, landing, exiting with binoculars and radio in hand, establishing an observation position, and forward air controlling from the ground.
