Title: We came, we saw and... we just watched
Post by: shotgunneeley on June 28, 2018, 09:23:11 PM
Been following Arkansas getting to the College World Series finals against Oregon State. We won the first game and had a 3-2 lead going into the 9th inning of the second game with the Beavers facing two outs. The batter swung and popped a foul ball near first base. Three Razorbacks swarmed in for the kill looking for the third out and the Championship win. They piled in and just stared as the ball fell to the ground between them - apparently they were all confused as to who would catch the ball. The batter then got a second chance, crunching a hit and driving the runner on third base in to tie the game. The next batter smashed a home run along with an RBI, setting up a 5-3 win for Oregon State. Game three tonight was a complete route with Oregon State pitching shutting us down. I will still fly my Razorback flag high in front of my house and salute the fans who called the hogs in Omaha.

What is the biggest botch you have ever witnessed in sports?

I just (in the past 15 minutes) finished watching the documentary about Mitch Mustain.  Man, that was a sad one.  I wish the guy the best.  Just brings to mind how things in high-level sports can go sideways for kids who are very talented because of a combination of factors that are out of of their domain.

October 25, 1964, Minnesota Vikings vs San Francisco 49ers.  Jim Marshall recovers a fumble, runs 66 yards the wrong way then throws the ball out of the end zone in celebration of his presumed touchdown instead giving the 49ers a safety and I saw it (on TV) live.  It still stands as the longest negative play in NFL history.

The TV sport channels here have 'blooper' shows.

Oh man.. we were watching that game, hoping you guys would have your first championship.  bummer.

Looked like the 2nd baseman ran over and must have called for it so the 1st and RF held back.. then 2nd overshot and couldn't back track enough to make the catch.    He dang near missed the final fly out, too, as he had to adjust rapidly to back up to make the catch.

Hope you guys can make it back next year!
