The sheer size of it was the primary complaint.  It took a while to get from one base to another, especially at first when no one had established a bridge head in another's territory.  I have to agree with the other complaint, the mountains were just too high.  I'd have to fly at 30k just to clear (barely) the mountains when I was doing strat runs, or take an extra scenic route over the water.  In the center for tank town, it's fine that they were that high, but the rest of it was rough.

I, despite those huge walls around the center, actually liked Trinity for strat runs.  As is though, the numbers are really too low to warrant Trinity.  A "Mini Trinity" might be something though, but I doubt one could simply take Trinity and "trim" it down to a smaller scale considering the map's age? :headscratch:

Trinity had a number of faults.
First was the gigantic mountain ranges right on the initial front lines.  They made it difficult to get a push going and basically everyone was in the same place.
Once a country managed to get a nice foothold, which was rare, the map was much better.  On land at least.
The seas were very large and made an over the water attack to an enemy coastal base a very long trip.  Most of the map was a waste of space that got little action.
The difficulty in winning it and the 7 day map timer meant that Trinity could be (and was) up for half or more of the month.  Every month.

It might have had it's faults, but a lot of players liked it a lot. I mean a lot.

I think a few players like it really really a lot, but that is why it was removed, because  a lot of players didnt like it.

but in AH3 bombers commonly fly 30 everyday-I don't see the reason--unless its not the pilots now as back then

maybe I missed something-but I don't remember a Tank Town on the trinity map-maybe the best part I liked was the gv fights at V135-but do remember there were valleys to fly through to get to the bases. but everybody has likes and dislikes about every .map

A few do, but I lack the patience, at least outside of scenarios. And I don't think anyone needs to be encouraged to do it. And the mountains were insane - most of them had 30k+ peaks. The passes were often 10-15k up. If you were trying to attack across them you got one flight and then 20 minutes to come back.

The short answer is it made the base taking game almost impossible with the absurdly high mountain ranges and the lack of GV spawns from the coast bases inwards. You'd take a coastal base, the enemy would kill the ords and the attack would stall right there because it was a 5 sector flight to resup or bring buffs from the closest base across the water (compare Compello where it was usually less than 2 sectors across the water). It was probably the worst map for sticking around forever without being won and changing. IIRC back then the map didn't automatically change after 7 days if no one had won the war.

I always said it would have been a fine map if someone went through and halved the height of every mountain and added some GV spawns along which an advance could be made. Maybe also some islands so the attackers could have a close secure base from which the beachhead could be supported. It did usually have good furballs running between the corner bases of the oceans and lots of good fights to take the coastal bases from CVs. It had the one great GV spawn battle but for whatever reason it was only on that one front, the other two didn't have anything similar. But in any case it was too big for today's player base.

Trinity was the best.  Among other advantages, the high mountains provided an area where high alt fighters could shine (look out La7s and Yak3s).

WRT to those who didn't like it, ask yourself a question; do you play AH to capture bases, or to fight other planes (and latterly, GVs)?  I always thought the latter was the selling point of this game.

If so few players "really liked it a lot", why after all this time are players still asking for it back ?

I only see a half dozen asking for it back, always the same half dozen.

Face it......
it was too big,
bases were too far away,
mountains were too high,
I was up too long because nobody could win it
we dont have the numbers to use even a third of that map right now.

The only good things....
was the high alt fights...... which we very seldom see on any map any more,
the GV battles at A1 and 135

I would love to see the map come back, as soon as we consistently are over 500 players a night, 700 on the weekends. Until then, Im happy to see it buried.

Trinity this and Trinity that.
Mainly for the repeated discussion of Trinity  :bhead

First, notice the Elevation legend in the upper right corner.
Then note the elevations along the front line as indicated by the dark mountains.
Next, see that except for the center, the air bases along the front are separated by the high mountains between.
At the coasts, the air bases are nearing 50 miles apart, and it only gets worse the further from map center.
Not shown well in the screen shot, some of the front line vBases are at altitude, eliminating those sites for air bases and making air support for the vBase defense or attack unlikely.
I'm sure others will have objections I haven't pointed out.

I posted in another thread:

You could shave off about 5 sectors on each teams side.

The problem with this image is that it makes the bases seem closer than they actually are.

The "TT" imo, destroys the purpose of tanks in the MA. Should at least have fighter bases near it. A better concept would be a king of the hill approach with a single base in the middle.

Canyons are cool, but are perhaps too thin, causing very high and long flights. Lotta people don't have time for all that, especially if the dar is small.

I like this one better than buzzsaw though.

Just pointing out things from a fighter perspective.

DmonSlyr,
Anything other then a straight conversion wouldn't be the old trinity.
It amazes me that anyone would have fond enough memories of trinity to want it back. With today's numbers and a straight forward conversion of trinity to AH3, few would stick in there for more then 2 minutes. The issues I mentioned are only the most obvious problems that would need to be addressed imo.

This was filmed during the Trinity Map.  And no other map had this sort of thing happen frequently.

Warning, it is pretty ugly and may contain course language.
