Title: Photo Help - P-51D "Croghan Cruiser" / "Waverly Democrat" 361st FG
Post by: Vraciu on July 26, 2018, 12:40:42 AM
Any thoughts on the rudder, canopy, and wingtip color for E2*V, third from camera?   Red?  Blue?   Urban Drew's "DETROIT MISS" is usually said to have been red on the canopy rail, wingtips, and top of the vertical stab.

Postwar photo.  note the call letters under the wings so they could be ID'd if they were buzzing folks on the ground.  They added more yellow and color as they had time to fool with it.  Rudder color would be for the squadron so it would have been blue for the 375th Squadron of the 361st

I’m not skinning the buzz number.

Blue was the answer I needed.    Now the question you've generated is did this picture match the war time yellow on the nose or was more added?

This is the only photo of the airplane I’ve found unfortunately.

What color is the panel behind the guns?

What color is the panel behind the guns?

Red would be my bet based on the general use of red doped tape to cover the gun muzzles.

Is this tape though or should I treat it as paint?

Paint that matches the tape.

Anyone have pics of the left side?  Did this thing have victory flags?

If blue was the 375th why is Urban Drew’s “Detroit Miss” always shown with red?
