Title: GV Pre-Whine
Post by: funkedup on December 10, 2001, 09:43:00 PM
If it's too late to take them out of the scenario then ignore this.

I don't think they are appropriate for scenarios.  They are poorly modeled in every respect.  If I wanted to play a tank game I would go buy a good one, something AH isn't.  So I hope GVs in TOD is not a trend.  Maybe allow walkons and let them drive tanks?

Too late to take them out, not really but I would rather not. You will not see them as a major component in the frames, but something that will add to the objectives. Having a tank to tank battle, or flying low looking for, and finding a tank column sounds exciting to me!  :)

Personally I would not mind rolling over a few hills to take a vfield, but that is just me. Others might feel like you do funked and I would respect that. Certainly if I was a frame C.O. I would not assign a squad to tanks if they were opposed to it.

If most feel this way then you will not see many in the TOD's, I just hope that is not the case.

As for walk on's, never in a TOD as long as I am around running the show.  ;)

Daddog, will the GVs be one life rides?  That would make them REALLY unnattractive as far as I'm concerned... for reasons posted in choosing sides thread...

It would be nice to have automated tank columns, even AI tank battles (one thing that was actually kind of cool about fighter ace), but I agree that the GVs in AH aren't why I'm there, and though I wouldn't mind shooting GVs, I would prefer not to drive 'em.

I would think of this a s a "test bed" for GV's.  We have them...why not try and use them?

Sure there are a few issues regarding GV's, but it would still be a level playing field as both sides have them.

Fighter cover for the tanks will be very important and should up the "pucker" factor.

<S> funked.  :)

Rgr blue I saw your post. Thanks for the feed back. I am mulling it over. I am considering the "2 life" option for GV's and other ideas to make it more palatable for players that otherwise might not want to do GV's.

Just remember it is a "testing ground". You guys just remember to make is clear to your Frame C.O. if you feel strongly about "not" using GV's.

GV test has to be done to improve TOD.

I volunteer the 13th Tas anytime.

Make those GV missions an option for the orders for both sides? Just thinking out loud...

Daddog,

The 412th will roll whatever tasked with I'm sure...  We will let you know, however, if we aren't too keen on it...  ;)

i agree with funked. i think it would be a great roll for walk ons, and would be all for allowing walk ons to participate in teh GV action in the TOD.

Making them at least 2 life vehicles and placing spawn points reasonably close to objectives is a must IMO.

I think that GV's could be implemented well if either:

A) They only engage in GV vs GV battles.
B) They are used in concert with 'friendly' air cover. Friendly air cover MUST be forced, IMHO, otherwise, they will just be sitting ducks for the JABO's.
C) Half to 3/4 of each team is in GV's and the other 1/2 to 1/4 are in Aircraft.
D) All but 8 (Two flights on each team) Start in GV. As the GV's are destroyed, they can grab a plane (Open the airfields every 15 minutes for 1 or 2 minutes for former GV's to roll). The team with the most GV's at the end wins the frame.
