My grandfather was US Navy (cook on a ship in WW2, one of those concrete liberty ships that hauled stuff in convoys across the Atlantic), my father and mother were US Navy, and my three uncles were US Navy (two were on river patrol boats in Vietnam). I planned on being USAF, but my eyes decided I would never be qualified to fly even as a backseater. I ended up as a submarine sonar tech in the US Navy.
