Title: Feed from the arenas
Post by: nrshida on September 03, 2018, 10:26:53 AM
Is there any technical way for HTC to gather real time (or semi-real time) information from within the game for use on the website? I assume this happens with score as I know sme people use that to locate individuals and it's quick enough for that?

Im sure that anything is possible. What type of feed are you looking for?

Can you be more specific?  And to what end?

How does the scorepage get updated on the website? I assume the game shoots data out to the server where the webpage is somehow?

And to what end?

It's just an idea to try and help populate an arena which HiTech recently highlighted.

Rank pages are updated once a day most likely with and small bit of automation code to update the data files.  In game the the scores are updated just about instantly. You still haven't said what you would use this for, or what you are trying to do.

There is no type of external interface available to anyone.

Well hopefully HTC  :)

No.  Not at all.  It would be a potential security risk.

We only have access when we are physically at the server.

Other than that, we have some admin commands we can use in the arena(s).

I think we're talking at crossed purposes. I'm not talking about hacking or cheating or security risks. I just had a simple idea for you (HTC) to impliment to help populate an arena. It's pretty similar to the score, which - as Fugitive says - updates pretty quickly.

well without being more specific I dont think your going to get a better answer. Spatular wrote a program that a person can use to compare plane stats... climb turn and such, as well as compiling scores over multiple tours, but both use available info from the web pages.

It would be cool to see the real time arena rosters from the website. Not sure if that's what was meant by "feed".

Yeah it was a neat idea building along these lines to populate the MPA because uniquely you need at least one partner to kickstart the arena. HiTech highlighted the desire to have it more populated. I first considered a WhatsApp group but then, having experienced hosting private arenas, thought it would be better if it was officially hosted.

So that it's possible to see on the web how empty the server is? Like WBs does it?

No, the opposite.
