or Flo, for you old farts, is telling the southeast to "kiss her grits"!
Just got word to pack 10days of clothing and be ready to travel tomorrow. Heading towards the coast, well somewhere in that direction.
All of you in SC and NC pay attention, this one could be a repeat of Hugo. That was a bad one for this area.
Above all else, think thru your actions and lean on the side of safety in all moves.
This isn't going to be pretty.
If you see linemen working, please just let them do their job.

It would probably be pretty bad yes It seems like she will do like Harvey and stall as soon as she reaches land and drop a lot of water over the area. 800-1000 mm of rain is predicted.
It seems like it will be a new record as she might be the strongest hurricane to make landfall this far north.

What have I done now? :headscratch:
Flos/Florence now Flossy
(stay safe!) :aok

I'm from Michigan, lived in Indiana for many years, now live in NC. Generally unfamiliar with hurricanes, although I saw a couple during yearly family vacations to NJ and in the few years I've lived here. Fortunately I live 3 hours inland so won't see hurricane force winds and I'm not on the bottom story of my apt complex so I won't get flooded. Gas station nearby keeps getting tankers and selling out in less than 2 hours. The mini mart inside is well stocked, except for bread of all things. I bought beef jerky and beer.
The thing that is going to help tremendously is the 4 days of warning people have/will have. So we're out of gas today, but soon a tanker will come in and everyone will have already bought all they need. The logistics is looking really good, stuff people need is getting here and being bought and then being replaced days before the storm hits.
Looking at the new track I think Charleston has a chance to be the next Houston (although with over 20 times fewer people). Vulnerable city on the ocean and the track is getting nearer. When the storm stalls out overhead and drops 40 inches, I wouldn't want to be there.

The last few years, I have prepped and evacuated for 2 hurricanes at 1000 bucks per hurricane..............that turned away at the last instant.
I just can't afford it this year.
Hope they prep. properly and I hope it swings away.
If you need to evacuate and going north or south on I95, do what I did last year and take US1 or A1A. I left west palm and ran into a parking lot on I95 about 10 exits up so I pulled off and went to a restaurant to come up with "plan B".
As I topped off at a busy gas station with the owner directing traffic to the pumps, I asked him what he thought. He said (southern accent) "It's wiiiide open on A1A............smooooooth sailin'" I asked about the road intersecting where we were (us1) and he said "I'll be dammed...........It's wiiiiiide open too".
I drove parallel to I95 on US1 all the way up to jacksonville, stayed overnight at a hotel, and did the same thing "parallel the main road" all the way to atlanta. Average speed 45mph.
It was scenic, relaxing, and you could sometimes see the interstate through the trees dead stopped with people peeing on the side of the highway because it took 2 hours to go a single exit.
One thing to know about the small towns on the parallel roads, going through the main intersection is not always straight through to continue. I found many main intersections had you making a turn or you were no longer on your preferred road. Have to watch the signs carefully and not believe some of the electronic navigation systems. A real map is good.

Just get away from the coast, the thing is going to hit the Willmington area, park there for a day and then move south along the coastline down to Florida.
-
The problem with florida is everybody has to evacuate the same direction because it really has not much "inland". I'm hoping the storm weakens before it hits SC.
-
Yeah, I would not head into Florida. If you get that far South, then head West through Georgia, to Alabama.
Keep in mind, if Florida is evacuating, Interstate 10 is going to be a nightmare. Better to head West before you get to 10.

Florence sucks. Supposed to be spending the week in the OBX. :( Had to head to the Adirondacks instead. Nice but not the same as a beach vacation. Especially with winter looming.

You might as well wait until this time next year if not longer for replaning that vacation.....it stalling out and just ripping the crap out of the entire North Carolina Coast line and the OBX..... Guess you been there before since you posted it as OBX ( NC Outer Banks )
Some of my family and friends live down there and say that it's already dire and is only going to get worse.... This thing is going to go through at least 3 if not more high tides causing it to become catastrophic
