Title: Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan
Post by: BOBO on September 12, 2018, 09:39:55 AM
Only seen the pilot so far and I loved reading the books back in the 1990s.

Anyone else like it?  So far I like it a lot.

Binge watched it on the weekend. Couldn't stop watching right up to the last episode and then was like "gebuz, when is Season 2 due?"

It started very good, but then denigrated into a silly predictable love story.

I have to disagree with you.  The series contains 396 minutes of story, of that, only 8 minutes are dedicated to the relationship with his future wife, the rest is rockem, sockem adventure/suspense.

I disagree with you. Once it was made clear she was an infectious disease specialist the entire show was too easily predictable. Maybe it was only 8 minutes (and it was FAR more than that), but the set up for their relationship conflict ruined the show and was a great example of poor writing.

Still on episode 2 here but I have to ask.  Does John Clark make an appearance in the series?

I'm guessing that he won't just because Clark is the equivalent of a perpetual bride's maid when it comes to screen adaptations of Tim Clancy's novels but I will still be disappointed in Amazon for not developing a character who's own story would make a film that's even better than the 2009 hit movie Law Abiding Citizen.

I’m sorry, as I thought you said this:

Oh wait, you did say that.

I don’t equate infectious disease with romance, the romance part, the love interest part is only eight minutes, but her character is in a number of other scenes that have nothing to do with romance and everything to do with infectious disease.

Not everyone will love or even like this show, I’m thinking you’re one of them.  I myself enjoyed it, but let’s face it, every TV Show, HBO Special or Netflic or move is always predictable,   The good guy is going to win, get the girl and live happily ever after.    The fact is that the only movie in history that was not predictable was titled “The Great Train Robbery”  by Edison.
Because that was the first movie, no one had ever seen a moving picture before so no one knew for sure what was going to happen.

:uhoh I hadnt researched it..much. :uhoh Was HOPING it was about Jack Jr.  That would have been better IMO as it wouldnt seem like a redux.  Now to get them to keep on with the Vince Flynn---American Assassin,Mitch Rapp series of films. LOVED THOSE :rock

I think Clark is there but not identified as Clark just yet, there is one scene with Ryan and  his boss and perhaps Clark arriving at a base and they are asked their names, and the spook gives a different name then he gave to Ryan when introduced, as they are walking away Ryan looks at this guy and the guy says I never use the same name twice.   I think that guy will turn out to be the Clark character.  He is also shown waiting in a bad guys apartment, when the bad guy arrives home to his apartment, he is shot once in the head by this Clark like character.

That reminds me...have you guys read Clancy's book about J Clark? Without Remorse....talk about a GOOD MOVIE! It really makes Clark's character in the rest of the series more understandable...ESPECIALLY in the Rainbow Six series. :rock
