I don't know how to start.... But more and more often Aces High is turning to a catch game.. Where the one who runs faster (To the field guns) is the one that wins.
Its already BORING enough spending 1 hour looking for fighter to FIGHT, and upon first encounter.... I take advantage upon two turns and the guy just dives down and runs to his base. I mean seriously ? How is that even fun ? Why do you even take off in a fighter IF you don't want to fight... ?? why ? just why ?
Second point... MatchPlay arena. Why is it just always empty ? I seem to be the only one to populate it and whoever randomly (and luckily for me) accepts my cries on MA Channel200.
It's a ton of fun and a great oportunity for instant action without having to fly around ugly scenery lookin for enemies.... who will either gang you or run away........... I mean if you DONT KNOW how to fight... GREAT ! There is Matchplay to practice !!! Which I used as much as I could in order to work on BFM and ACM and become a better stick !!!! I started last April people and I can shoot down people who have been playing for much longer.... not trying to shake my feathers but rather I am trying to inspire and encourage you here.
I don't know what to say.... just trying to get some frustration off my chest.

Try the AvA on Monday night for Monday Night Madness for a good dogfight fix. Not sure what the time difference is for you but, if you can do it, you won’t be disappointed. :salute

Monday Night Madness sucks for those that do not want to have fun. It is absolutely impossible to go in there and not have fun. So be warned... if you hate fun, stay away from the AVA on Monday nights.
Consider yourself warned.

It’s going to be late night/early morning for you for sure. There are weekly AvA setups that are a lot of fun........when there’s someone else in there to bumps heads with.

It was always open when I was active (it better still be, for my return). The problem was keeping it populated. Again, with the current most voiced complaints on the forum being ENY and large three-sided maps, you'd think there would be a stampede of players from the MA (unless the perspective of those problems are inflated). :cheers:

In all the years I've had very few encounters. Perhaps it's the rides I choose. But if I can't fly a 38J I can always take a G....or a Jug.

AvA is great fun! All of the planes are matched by year so it's generally closer fights.
The MA is not. Which means plane choice and SA matter.
This means you have to make people fight and also be patient to avoid ganging situations.
Things to work on in the MA.
1. Understanding the planes' strengths and using the plane in the best situation it belongs in.
2. Merging on opponets for quick snap shots.
3. Defense counter punch maneuervs. Leuer them in, reverse, catch em off guard and get the shot as they zoom by.
4. Taking time to get the alt
5. The patience to gain the alt back after you dive into the Furball.
6. Understanding the planes around you and their E capability.
That what makes this a hard game. Gotta fly your plane to the best of it's ability. Patience gets the best of everyone.
I wish the match play was more popular too. Hopefully tweeks to it will work it out and more people will join in.
Some custom FFA arenas would be nice to see.
You can't force someone to not fly how they want, but you can jump them with alt and force them to fight. :old:

Except the fact that the AvA is not the same as the Melee regardless of sides or ENY. They are in NO WAY a like comparison and never will be. Apples and oranges. THAT'S why there is no stampede.

no ENY in the AVA. any plane available, is available to all on that side. in Monday night madness, both sides get the same planes.
the idea of the Axis vs Allies arena is 2-sided battles with a limited planeset, so its not like the MA.
it could be changed easy enough, but then theres no point in calling it the AVA. so for a fun time, check out Monday nights, for Monday night madness. you wont be disappointed
if you like tanks, Thursday nights is the night to be in there. its open 24X7 but its not the MA. it can, however, be as much, if not more, fun!!

You're seeing a change (more and more...)? And you have been here for a year or something? There was no change. A perceived change often is within oneself. The better you are getting the more you'll be avoided. The more you're flying in a way that leaves your desired victim no chance, the more alternative solutions will be choosen. If nothing else, people know when a fight is lost.

No, it has only two elements that are of benefit. This is more than offset by a half dozen other factors that are a net detriment.

No one goes in there,other than Mondays, Thursdays...because its like AH2 Early and Mid War arenas. $ guys trying to sneak un defended bases. THAT was my inspiration to learn HOW to dive bomb :devil OOPS,somebody "messed" in their Mess Kit :devil Then it was more fun. Being a ONE DIMENSIONAL player in an MULTIDIMENSIONAL GAME will always feel left behind at times. You are letting every one else dictate your game play. NOW dont get all pissy,you know who I am referring too :uhoh, I understand, as we have this discussion regularly(its not the Maltese Falcon :salute). BUT I stand on previously held assertions...if you expanded your game play..you might just realize you have missed out on some big fun. IT would sure beat flying around frustrated with nothing to "Bang" on but ch.200 :uhoh Trust me....Low Slow and Heavy...you will get more Dog Fight opportunities...only these will be in a Shriner's Clown Car..who needs a Phone Booth. There is NO ONE ANSWER, I am just letting you know there are other ways to have fun. I've flown in this arena plenty. Please stop telling me to "expand" my fun based on incorrect information. Also don't tell me what is or is not fun or how to have it--that's a highly subjective thing as you already know. What you enjoy bores me to death in most cases. The reverse is also probably true for you regarding what I enjoy.
On one hand we get told we don't tell people how to play and then on the other we are ordered to do "different things" if we want to have fun. You can't have it both ways, bruh. Cheerio. :salute :cheers:

I'm just saying that when people say, "You need to do this" or "You need to do that" (to have fun) it's often said with the impression that we haven't done so already--and found it not to our liking.

That wasnt lost in translation. I am with ya ,bud. I like it all, dogfight when I can and just blow Tanks up when I cant Dogfight. Usually the one leads to the other, for me any way. Heck, you opened my eyes TO The Dogfight aspect, which I had failed to pursue...so I am slowly sliding into yours and Vraciu's side of this fence. A pure fight is hard to come by at times. If you see me on....all ya gotta do is holler at me! Think those Hedges in DA need another TRIM :devil OH, and COFFEE is ILLEGAL :neener:

I have never had to spend more than 3 seconds to "find a fight". Of course, I liked to spawn out of the fighter hanger of a vulch capped field.
It think the guys complaining about "not being able to find a fight" really mean "not being able to find a fight where 3 minutes of climbout puts you at an advantage over the enemy".
Imagine how the P51 guys felt when they arrived in germany at 32,000 feet to find Axis fighters higher than them.

A few months ago and I would have said YOU were right :uhoh These last few months,it seems the GAME PLAY has really changed. I dont know why that is,I just know I am seeing it. I have been paying closer attention though,so may be that. Personally, I dont up looking for one thing in particular,I am a easy come easy go personality. Sure feels like that, I know! Wish we could figure out how to reverse this trend, of CARTOON LIVES MATTER. I still find some fun, even IF the GV'ers gripe...For me, nothing better than upping with bombs and slaughtering those guys(Not in bombers either, Spits and KI's...damn Skippy, all small bombs), at least until their air cover arrives! Makes for some great action....and more kills. :devil

It's the stats is what's killing "the game". The metrics drive people to play timidly giving them the idea they're good players if only because their stats say they are. I don't play the game that way. Lot of players that go back as far as I do don't either. To us it's about the fight. I fly, I fight, I live, I die, I get another beer and another plane. No big deal. I don't fly nearly as much as I used to but when I do I still have fun. Last night after FSO I was on til the wee hours and found plenty of action with some guys that weren't afraid to mix it up. <S> Yucca, Horble, Violator. Of course there were other guys just breezing along that never really engaged anybody. I guess they're the stats guys. <Shrug>
Stats are a great thing and, of course, stats don't lie! But they can be a two edged sword. I'm a baseball fan and I look at how stats/sabremetrics are literally changing the game in recent years. Defensive shifts, launch angles, pitching specialists have changed how the game is played. But that's how these guys get paid! The bunt and the stolen base have all but been removed from the game to the point of a generation of players that don't even know how to do it anymore! Launch angles make for all or nothing swings so you either make really hard contact our no contact at all! I heard an interview with Gary Sheffield. He was like, man if ever struck out a hundred times in a year I couldn't look people in the eye! Now 200 Ks are almost normal! But it's all good. You got 40 home runs. So you get paid!
Don't know if that analogy makes sense. I was trying to point out that stats can drive players in certain directions for whatever motivations they might have. Seems that is at least a factor in what's happening to our game. I look at my stats now and then. Usually just to see how pathetic my gunnery still is after all these years!

IDK... Anyone playing for stats last night was not very successful haha.
Great fights and furballs last night all around. I had a lot of fun.
It's really just the need for some to constantly gang and it's challenging in AH to avoid 6 190Ds and Yak3s diving down on ya. Then you reverse them and they hit X and run away. It's really that kind of flying that gets tiring for people to fight against.

Remember not to drop the bomb or they might leave screaming 'it's an outrage' :D

Pretty much this.
People take their score and name in lights too seriously in the MA. Truth is, it takes very little skill to skew the stats in your favor and survival isn’t some magic ability in the MA either. When lesser players discover this they hang on score almost exclusively which is horrible for the game at large.
There are places to exercise the war/survival mentality. The MA isn’t that place in my opinion.

One of the many pleasant features of MNM is that the close-quarters combat soon eliminates most of the late-war planes. Flying in and out of the tall buildings works great for an early- or mid-war plane, but not so much for a 51D or an La5. You are treated to real twisty-turney, 200-yard shooting, white-knuckle fights, which, so far as I can see, can't be found generally anywhere else.
AND, to top it off, it's a pleasant environment. Everyone speaks on a common channel. Everyone is friendly, laughing after he gets shot, congratulating the guy who got him. No "WTG DUDE!" if someone lands kills (which I'm not certain I even saw). Virtually no face-shooting, and then mainly by accident or instinct.
Good fights, good sportsmanship, good camaraderie. What's not to like?

EXACTLY! Like watching a pot to boil water....If you are NOT looking(for a fight) it WILL HAPPEN! Its all about killing the REDS...and I kill them any way I can! Makes for some fun PHONE BOOTH KNIFE FIGHTS!!! :rock

Young LatinLuv had the grace to move to the Match Play arena this night. We had many fights. He won them all; no contest, really. But what a great time.
We should all try to populate that arena some more.

Last time I checked out the MA, I had who I called a "shade" to unclock and quit hiding his true gameid....since he wanted to check my arena stats and then proceeded to tell the arena why would he want to bother flying in the KOTH event since I only had 7 kills in the MA...he never picked up on the fact that I had played less than 1 1/2 hours in the MA for that whole month
Critter was his gameid and at the time he was texting all of this drivel his rank was 0 and he had not flew a single sortie yet wants to use "stats" to try and prove something I've yet to figure out and actually could care less about...i ignore hypocrites....
Want to dogfight me just call me out, I will be glad to ablidge you.... You might not like the outcome though...
If I lose a fight, I own it and don't make stupid excuses trying to warrant why I lost.... People who play this game seriously need to listen and learn from this statement I just made... Also there are players playing this game whose rank is 900/1000+ that can run circles around those with a rank 200 through 1... Sit and let that sink in real good....you might learn something new...
This place still has plenty of players that know how and love nothing but the Fight itself!

KOTH was my first arena experience in Aces High.
It was C202s and I got one guy only to be picked by another who simply flew behind but wouldn't engage until I had shot parts off the guy in front of me.

You should have shown up last month to KOTH, I was actually flying the best I had in the past 8 or 9 years
I was a bit worse this past weekend.... I don't get to experience flying like that much anymore with my medical issues

I don't know how to start.... But more and more often Aces High is turning to a catch game.. Where the one who runs faster (To the field guns) is the one that wins.
Its already BORING enough spending 1 hour looking for fighter to FIGHT, and upon first encounter.... I take advantage upon two turns and the guy just dives down and runs to his base. I mean seriously ? How is that even fun ? Why do you even take off in a fighter IF you don't want to fight... ?? why ? just why ?
Second point... MatchPlay arena. Why is it just always empty ? I seem to be the only one to populate it and whoever randomly (and luckily for me) accepts my cries on MA Channel200.
It's a ton of fun and a great oportunity for instant action without having to fly around ugly scenery lookin for enemies.... who will either gang you or run away........... I mean if you DONT KNOW how to fight... GREAT ! There is Matchplay to practice !!! Which I used as much as I could in order to work on BFM and ACM and become a better stick !!!! I started last April people and I can shoot down people who have been playing for much longer.... not trying to shake my feathers but rather I am trying to inspire and encourage you here.
I don't know what to say.... just trying to get some frustration off my chest.

I feel your pain bruv. US evening time is just a horde of hit and run opportunists in super planes. I actually find the fights are much better when the arena pop drops down to about 50.

LOL, thats the cesspool boiling down to a good fishing pond....it has been that way (the way you feel better with 50 dedicated dogfighters playing) for 28 years albeit AW, WB or AH...heh
