Title: New Planes
Post by: ONTOS on October 07, 2018, 02:41:10 PM
I wish for the B-17 F. I know I won't get it, but I want to wish anyway.

The F-model would suit the melee arena better than the G. We rarely have frontal attacks so we dont need the chin turret. The extra dorsal gun is more useful.

is this the B-17 gunship?
I remember reading somewhere that the 8th started putting gunships in the formation for more protection.

What about the A-26. (I can never keep them straight but I'm pretty sure I mean A-26, the fast one, still in use in the 60's, Douglas not Martin I think.)

Nope. Standard config.

Here's a B-17 gunship:

A b17 gunship would be a fun game option. Maybe perk it?

Just watched the TV program "Dogfight" depict a lone modified B-17E, "Old 666" survive an attack by 17 Japanese planes while on a solo photo recon mission in the Pacific.  The B-17E had an extra 6 machine guns added by the crew.  They shot down 3 Zeros and survived 45 minutes of attacks to get away and land with one crew member killed and several others wounded.  The pilot was awarded the Medal of Honor.

Another "Dogfight" sequence showed a lone SBD piloted by "Swede" Vejtasa win a 1v3 against Zeros.  He shot two down and forced the third to bug out after a collision that wrecked the Zero but hardly damaged the SBD.

I think the "Dogfight" show was a History Channel production, but we see it on the Quest channel broadcast TV.  (We don't have cable.)  It's a pretty good show including animated simulations of the fight, analysis by a "Top Gun" instructor, and often interviews with the pilot.

Would be great to see an ad for AH.  Just sayin....    ;)
