I tried it for a couple of days. :O
I like the concept. I think that massive scale and scope appeals to more customers than a narrow, dedicated aircraft game. It allows a larger number of players that are not and never will be fighter aces to participate in the "war".
I think HTC could do it better.

well..if you had said that in 2001-2009 .....i would have laughed.....but looks like alot of people feel that way now...and have left.

Yep. It's really really hard to properly intergrate a multi-interface environment in a MMO game, without lag issues, without compromising on image or gameplay quality, and then put it on a world wide web of varying player country infrastructures.
Then throw in player warping, bullet/projectile tracking, vehicle/player state tracking, ground object state tracking, and then tie it all together into a common server engine that is also code that could have bugs as well as the player interface - all where microsecond difference can make or break gameplay experience.
I just don't think the kinds of machines and internet infrastructure in it's current state exists where that can occur easily is out there ...yet... but we're getting close.
Aces High has the potential to easily add player controlled ships, subs, and even additional player controlled ground elements (NOT SOLDIERS THOUGH). But this IS a combat flight simulator first, everything else is secondary.

Could always try a test. See what happens if 10 guys bail over a town then run around through the streets heading to the flag pole. You would need a furball going on over the town to see what happens to FPS for everyone when all 10 players crowd the door of the map room. If FPS is not an issue, then the next test would be 5 guys from each country bail and hunt each other with their pistols. And you need a furball going on. No FPS issues, at least you know 10 players can operate as troops inside of a 1x1mile area and not kill FPS.
This being AH and not a WW2 simulation, troops would be acting as solo griefers with guns. A quick way to introduce troops has always been players can be one of the ten troopers needed to capture a map room. Then 10 troopers from the local field or from a spawned in M3 could be deployed to capture or fight the 10 troopers capturing the map room. But, do you really want players now avoiding combat all night by greifing feilds reducing the numbers of planes and tanks available for combat? With today's numbers, 10 players as troops out of the air for both sides at a town is kissing this air combat simulator good bye.
Still, Hitech could put in a 5x5mile freebee arena with two\three sides, a village, and you capture the flag by running around using WW2 ground troop weapons killing each other while trying to capture a command post to win the map. And in the AH tradition, you pick your avatar, US ARMY or Marine, German ARMY or Paratrooper, Japanese ARMY, Russian, British and so forth stuck with the troop weapons they used. So red guys are bad guys and green are your guys no matter the uniform. Then it's just the AH ground combat simulator with WW2 troop combat weapons and uniforms. Very egalitarian and in your face while probably attracting kids and young adults to pass some time in that arena sneaking around shooting each other in the back.

That's what's got me the most excited about Star Citizen. I have no idea what that game is going to wind up being when all is said and done, but the creation tools and the way the engine works they've developed has me very excited in terms of application to other types of games.
Forget about developing a planet, apply those tools to a city and the level of detail they could create relatively easily is awe inspiring.
As far as the OP, I just don't see infantry being viable in AH without a complete rework of the game and a metric buttload of artwork and asset development.
Wiley.

I am waiting a bit on Star Citizen, I have some ships but I got tired of the same three missions prior to the last big update.
as far as adding a troop ground role to this game, something seems a bit off and I cannot put my finger on it. though, I do have an idea of whats going on but I will keep my thoughts to myself to prevent the "Then build a game!" comments that would no doubt follow any observations.

The biggest annoyance on WW2OL was the lag, it was absolutely horrible

Ï never liked the air war in ww2online, flight models etc, but they have the best icons.
Ground war was really good though.

In a perfect world, I see a mash up of HTC aircraft/flight model, WWIOnline whole-war multi-continent strat layer, and Dice's Battlefield infantry model.
Kinda like The Avengers where all the super-heroes come together and contribute their unique super-powers. :rofl

seems to me it would take a whole lotta game changing to make you're wish come true.
of course it would be nice to see HiTech or Skuzzy come in here and comment on this wish.

Damage models were attrocious. I remember getting an 88 towed to an allied airfield to camp it. Direct 88 hits on spits did nothing. And CRS were constantly tinkering with stuff to balance the game.

Hitech would rather code in VB, than go on the record commenting on something like this.

Everyone knows that 70% of your shots in that game are actually firing nerf balls.
