Thing about these 109 claims is funny.
we had a total of only 9 109s for cap from 22 to 27. (no shows etc.) JV44 had 4; 3 for rcaf and 2 for rogue squad.
Rogue squad was cap at 22. they were both killed
JV44 lost 1 due my my bad order to rush to add the rogues. (we should of grabbed N and regrouped) fyiy we lost 1 to disco enroute to help rogues. We arrived at 22 with 3. However one of my guys fell way behind the lead. Left alone he soon was killed.
This bad order also drew us away from 25.
when we rtb'd 25 we saw 17s (3 of us) I was killed by 17 tail gunner the other 2 109s rtb'd at end of frame no damage.
out of 9 109s capping 22 to 27 we lost only 3.
However at a21 nash's escort all 109s were bounced while outa gas gliding home. I believe they were 109s but not sure.
Just reread nash's aar lost 6 109s....... :)

FDBs took p38s out of A54 to patrol C58, full tanks and drop tanks. Seeing as the navy is not the best at navigation, they were 200 miles out. Regardless, that can't be helped, because navy is navy after all and as bad as they are they're all we have, so we went on up there.
Encountered 3 109s on the way out, recon force. A few passes but no real engagements, then continued on to the fleet. Not long after getting to the TG, we were at the point where if we were going to refuel on the mainland we needed to go back, so we decided instead to refuel the 38s on the carrier deck, in pairs.
SOB and I went in first, stopped about middeck, and proceeded to back up, at which time a group of 190s (5 or 6 I believe) showed up and made a quick divebomb run, sinking the carrier and the 2 of us with it.
The remaining 4 p38s (myelo, mason, skernsk, sling) chased the 190s, but broke off eventually to try to make it home on gas. Unfortunately only Mason made it to land, with the other 3 ditching off the east coast of England.
6 launched, 2 dead, 1 ditched on land, 3 ditched in water. Mission failure.

Even so Wotan, you have a point. We didnt get kill messages so we are only going on what we percieve. Maybe not all the enemy AC we hit died? Very possible. The logs will come out and we will see how close everyones claims will be. I think it only adds to the event experience :)
-
Heh Daddog, so you were the ones. What happened is the flight I was a guest on had only two aircraft. So when we ran into you guys, there were no reinforcements.
BTW -- tell the P51s to stick with the bombers next time. Seems like I pulled them all down to the deck with me. If it weren't for the NOE P47 strike on A22 ack (and then on the two 109s trying to flee to the nonexistent ack umbrella), the score woulda been different. Oh, and if we had a squadron of interceptors vectored on the B26s after the initial engagement, it woulda been ugly. 2 ships are normally scouting groups, not the main force (as they were here).

For TOD each squad signs up and commits a certain number of pilots.
Daddog emails mission assignments to that frames cos.
The co doles them out to the squad.
Prior to the start of the frame we have no way of knowing which squad will show up or at what strenth.
Unless we redo the mission and assignments right before the frame theres no way to know where to assign a squad.
This a basically a squad v squad thing. Even squads that are on the same side are competing with each other.
If one squad recieves a mission assignment and makes a plan on how to carry it out we cant expect them to abandon that to take up the slack of another squad.
I know that axis mission assignments were way late. But each squad is responsible for its turn out.
Sorry your first experience with TOD turned out that way but the resposibility remains with the squad cos not the organizer.

Dinger,
<<<BTW -- tell the P51s to stick with the bombers next time.>>>
I was one of those 51s and I think next time I will! I was very impressed with those 109s and you had me quite nervous. It was a 4v2 against you for a while but then two of our 51s were called back to assist the bombers leaving just two 51s against you. After you shot down one 51B, that left only me and for a very short time it was 2 109s vs my single 51 when I saw Ripsnort's 47's and ran towards them. I'm curious though, which fighters actually shot you guys down? From my perspective, I dealt the killing blows to both 109s but it appears the 47s are claiming you. After that though, I was all alone in a 51B over enemy territory and I'm not afraid to admit that for the first time in AH, I was a bit afraid while flying around. Finally hooked back up with the bombers west of P61 after they dropped and made it safely home.

i like not having kill msgs :)
makes you need confermation of yer kills by watching em auger or splode :)
-
Nah Daddog, they brought tanks but they ditched them somewhere along the way and hovered over the IP point waiting for the JU88s just a bit longer than they should have it turns out.
Two frames now and two amazing times had. I'm really diggin this TOD series.
-
Wotan, I'm not complaining; I understand and support fully the idea behind the TOD. I did enjoy the scenario, and didn't let the fact that we were severely understrength ruin my enjoyment. I was just giving a healthy warning to the other guys :) -- it's really easy to strip escorts off of fast bombers (b26s and Ju88s here), so don't chase single ships down. I really like to see pilots (myself included) mature as their scenario experience increases, and I think some feedback is the way to do it. Are my observations wrong? Maybe. But I'll still give them.
From my position, Dux was the first to go, and I saw tracers from no less than four planes land on him before he died.
I have no idea who got me, but there was a lot of traffic on my six. There's nothing worse than diving for safety, only to run into another strike force coming from that direction.
:D
It happens, sometimes you get caught on the tracks between two trains. At least this time I have an excuse for getting shot down.

Rgr Dinger :)
you should heard rw as we came from n 22 looking for you guys 47s dropped in from behind us cons to our 12 ......... pucker time..............
luckily we broke for the clouds after a short dance they broke off then when rtbn to find a crap load 17s with escort. Was great fun..............
Cya next frame Dinger? ;)
-
Thanks for the advice dinger. :) We managed to keep a few with us, but the rest were bz with you guys. I think we lost one escort.
This a basically a squad v squad thing. Even squads that are on the same side are competing with each other.
Wotan I don't see it that way at all and I hope others don't also. Much of what you said I agree with, but squads on the same side are not in competition with each other. I view this as strictly Allied vs Axis. Squads on the same side should be helping each other any way they can. 6 calls, responding to mayday's, each squad assisting each other anyway possible. Team/war effort gents.
Each TOD many of the squads will change sides. Some who were enemy will become Allies. ;) Makes it tough to compete that way.
