Just how bad did the Allies get beat? I'm trying to assume the proper level of humiliation, but it would be much easier if I knew just how bad the carnage was. :D
Post yer AARs here. I'll start.
SBM rolled from CV18 tasked with prepping A1 for capture. All but one or two of us slipped into the drink on launch. The survivor/s was promptly met by a horde of Ki's and got his arse handed to him hehe. By the sounds of it, our experience wasn't unique.
Your turn.

Was ugly. 332nd Flying Mongrels rolled from the southern CV. All of us experienced pilots having taken off from the CV many times with full load out. We even have a squadron award for taking off 3 times in a row in an F4U D 100% fuel, and 2-1000lb and several of us have it. On take off 4 of us hit the conning tower! Found out later there was a 20 mph crosswind. :( I did not feel right about having our squad reup and they were all in agreement so for those 4 the TOD was over. :(
Those of us who made it headed for A5 to take out the ack for the RCAF 416th squadron, but we only made it ½ way. Some Ki-61's came in hi our 6 and we had to drop all our ordnance and fight it out. Was not long before there was only nifty and I left. After a long fight nifty was shot down and I ran home to the CV. :( Tried to land but the damage was too much and careened right into "vultures row".
Launched 8 fighters
Lost all fighters
<S> To all and to the IJN who kicked our butt! :)
-
416th got maced as well. 3 of us joined with usarmy and his wingie and tried to make a go to 5 with 5 C-47s. Got 5 minutes from base and were bounced by N1Ks. Shortest TOD yet :(
-
Your C47s were butchered by the 63rd Sentai's Frenchy and Nomde. :)
-
Just curious ... did the Axis forces have the same fuel issue as the Allies did?
-
Sems that i have to leav in my wings for this one :o
Sorry Allieds for the Slaughter you guys had to put up with out there.
It was my first time for planing a event like this one, and it sems it wil be my last after the phones i gott form the high command today ;).
I planed this real goog i thought but sems not afterall in this case.
<S> Allieds for you brave fighting.

as in going to zero on runway yes.....
we had cross winds as well i belive a bunch of AKs porked thier rtb.
My squad lost 1 (ditch) due to gear colapse when rtbn.
We only saw 3 f4s.
1 augered
Virage killed 1
Urchin/Erlkonig/Leitwolf (not sure which) got 1
The c47s were spotted when sancho sent 2 guys north from a5 to a1. Imagine spotting 5 goon and your in a niki.......
We expected a good sized attack. With the speed the first f4 got there we assumed the cv was nw a1. It was. We were rearming to jabo the cv but lost 2 while rtbn. (erlkonig porked his eng on reup). So with out enough ord to ensure sinking the cv we attacked alt target.

First of all, one question: What avacado decided to turn the CV side on to a 20mph wind?
AAR:
I arrived 10 minutes late due to having overslept (5am my time), launched immediately after instruction by CO (Ripsnort). On climbout from CV (was at approx 6k) loadsa cons appear so dumped ord. Picked off one Ki61 while he wasnt looking, was manouvering with 2 more when 5 (count em, FIVE) more Ki61s come outta nowhere and slot onto my 6 at D2.0
Ran for CV.
Fighting around CV I lost oil line, someone else from MAG33 cleared me (dunno who, too busy worrying). Just as I was chopping throttle and lowering the hook yet another Ki61 goes overhead but hadnt seen me.....WEP gets me within 300 yards of him and those .50s knocked his wing off. Scratch 2.
Cut throttle again and made for the CV......YET ANOTHER DAMN KI61 has a pop at me, where the bloody hell did all these nutters launch from to hit us after 10 minutes flight time?!?!
Anyway, dunno what happend to this guy, he shot my left elevator off and then disappeared......so I landed and .efluffied quick before getting straffed on the deck.
Was 10 minutes late, flew for 20 mins total, killed 2, rtb'd safe.

Hehe. It was a pretty unmemorable day for JV44. We had 6 guys (Wotan was out due to a broken stick). I took our guys up to 20k, and we were orbiting above some broken clouds when word came that 3 F4U's had slipped in underneath us and were attacking A1. We dove through the clouds, didn't see nary a plane, then two F4U's actually popped out of the clouds above and behind me.
As Wotan said, Virage got one. Me, Erlkonig, and Leitwolf chased the other one over to 43 and we finally got him (not sure who got the 'killing burst'- he looked like he was going in so I broke off. We headed back to A1 and I told Leitwolf he'd come rearm with me while the others maintained the CAP over the base. Leit managed to land just dandy, I came real close to smacking into the tower and broke my gear on landing. How embarrasing  . So I sat in the tower for a while, GhostH said he fixed the wind. The rest of the guys came in to rearm, rearmed successfully. I'm sitting in the tower watching them take off again and Erlkonig spins out and comes to a dead stop in the middle of the runway. All he says is "Oops". I busted out laughing- he had hit his prop on the ground on takeoff- I felt a little better about my landing mishap after that :).
When I left our only two casualties were from landing/take-off errors, we didn't lose any to enemy action as far as I know.

Trying not to be really Negative...
Getting vulched less than 5 minutes from base by two unattached Nik's in C-47's should not be the spirit of ToD's.
I would really like to see the orders for the Axis side, if everybody just decides to fly around looking for vulching chances as opposed to a coordinated effort, then ToD's are doomed.
I must ask the Nik's, was that your mission? Who told you where we were rolling from in the 47's? In my opinion without cheating, finding us in 5 minutes is impossible. Shame on you.
Total time from start to finish for us was 11 minutes, only 5 minutes in the air.
I have flown online for over 5 years and never have I been bounced 5 minutes after rolling, you must have been over our base at the start or damn close to it.
Something smell's...

After we got re-armed, Virage led LeitWolf and I to our alt target. We arrived with no incident, and dived down to bomb--the ack concentrated on Virage while it completely ignored me. First time I'd ever dive bombed in AH, and I got two building destroyed messages :) We lost LeitWolf over the target, and Virage was unable to nurse his wounded bird home, so I had to fly back all alone. By the time I landed, there was almost no one left in the arena.

I had problems from the start. Disco at roll time, relog in and I had no keyboard controlls so I couldnt bring up the radio or start my engines so I rebooted and managed to roll about 10 mins late. In my hurry to catch up I managed to accidently drop my ext tank which forced me to refuel early. My wingie Mark and I never encountered any enemy. We both RTB'd safely.

Blame is mine gentlemen.
Despite our best efforts sometimes mistakes do happen. Fuel multiplier I set to 1.5. When I heard about the problems I went back in & looked and it was set to 15000000.0
As to the crosswind, well I loaded a new terrain (which reboots the arena) created new tables, made the field & plane settings I needed. Somehow the wind managed to set itself to a 20 mph crosswind.
Fixed it soon as I heard Ki's were killing landing gear on landing. Also had squadmate reviewing film of CV takeoff mentioned that it looked like a crosswind.
I have NO idea how it set itself.
Lets just say the Gods of War were playing with us last night. :(
-
This is the first scenario I've flown in where there were some major problems. Lets just hang in there and enjoy the fun. I'm sure we will be learning from the mistakes. Don't get discouraged because this really is a lot of fun. :)

Thats bs and out of line mate. read my post.
JV44 was at a1 we saw cons ib 10 min in which told us a cv was near. We expected a heavy attack at a1.
Sancho and the 56th were patrolling a5. Sancho reported all quiet and sent 2 guys north with the expectation of helping jv44. Enroute they spotted you. Shortly after that jv 44 had 2 guys patrolling sw a1 looking for the attck that never came. Turned out of 3 f4s attacked a1 and were eliminated we then sent guys out to patrol for the cv/or larger attack group.
They were there right about the time Frenchy and Nombe killed the last of yas.
it was obvious the cv was too far away for lvts so how were the allies planning to take a base. c47s they didn't see any around s a8 so we would have figured a7. Even if noone spotted you right off we sent guys to just eastt a7 to grab to attack an alt target.
imho you were dead anyway ya look at it......
-
Buzzbe,
Frenchy and Nomde, the two N1Ks that got you guys, were patrolling around A5 when help was requested at A1. While enroute to A1 the defenders managed to take care of the situation and Nomde and Frenchy started to return to A5 to continue the cap. On their return they just happened to see you. It was purely accidental.
Our group was given the task of covering A5 and the surrounding area. My wingie and I capped an area approximately 10 miles west of A5.
I can certainly understand your frustration, I would have been frustrated too, but it was pure happenschance that they spotted you when they did. I feel that our squad followed our orders to the best of our ability. We never encountered any cons except for your group of C-47s.

Cheating? I really doubt it.
<S> to the 416 RCAF for trying, but it was just plan bad luck. I will point out it is rather moot since the squadron (8 of the 332nd Flying Mongrels) never even made it to the field we were to destroy for your troops. The ack would have slaughtered you.
We will take the troops next time. ;)
-
Excuse my cynicism, however, what can you expect (2 Nik's finding 5-C47's so fast). We could still see the base.
I stand corrected then and retract my statement. Just happened so fast it hardly seemed possible (in my mind and the rest of the squad).
I understand that Nik's are fast but to cover that much ground and catch us taking off and forming?
We also had a time delay because we had no fuel, plus all the Carrier issues, it's possible that your start of frame and our start of frame was not concurrent (most likely cause).
What is more upsetting is having incorrect settings wipeout almost a whole squad, then sticking to the one life rule (why?). This ruined the ToD and set the stage for our short flight and left a bad taste. I don't think anyone would have objected to starting over (corrected settings) and letting all take part.
Better luck next time...
"Wotan" I did read your post, I don't believe everything I read though and decided to question it, which is my right. No slight to you or your guy's, we were very frustrated and getting our concerns in the open gets it addressed. Not getting them in the open, makes it hard to get people to showup for the next one (ToD). Reactions generally point to the truth and I'm happy with outcome (not the C47 part).

I think it was the fuel/carrier issues which were the biggest decider in this and the delay it caused in most of us getting airborne. We had only climbed to about 4K when hordes of KI61's descended on us from about 10K. Not taking anything away from the Axis forces. <S> The only reason I was there was to provide target practice :( I think I managed to clear one person's six but didn't even manage a hit before becoming the familiar "Dope on a Rope". <S> to whoever shot me down. They stopped shooting the second I jumped to the silk.

A whole squad assigned to flying goons? A big Salute to that squad! Ultimate team players for showing up if you ask me.
I don't think anyone should be asked to fly a goon in a TOD event. For a weekly event with 1 life, each squad should be given goals/missions they can sink there teeth into and get their members excited about.
Maybe base capture should be kept to the MA, with TOD maintaing its focus on historical matchups.

Oh GA before I forget to mention it... There was absolutely nothing wrong with yer orders that I could see. Seemed like a good plan. A lot of us just kind of messed up is all. :)
-
GA, Nash is right. Nothing wrong with the orders, you can have the best plan in the world, but if the execution is off it's all for nothing.
Were smart people, we'll work it out.
Also 416 has no problem flying any assigned aircraft.

Heyas just a note about the crosswind..
As TOD is a "realistic" sort of thing, i think things like a crosswind are not a bad idea, mebbe not so strong though +)

Phuuuuuuuu thx Buzzbe, Nash :D.
Have tought about this all day long :).
-
All those in favor of a "Do Over?" :)
Geesh, wish I was in Florida and could dig up some of those liberal "We Demand a Re-Vote" sign :D
-
A carrier would turn it's bow into the wind, not allow a crosswind. Hell, if we had been pointed INTO the 20mph wind, we would have easily got off the deck, lots of lift under the wings then. As it was, at first I thought something was wrong with my rudders, but I just went with it. Managed to get up using full left rudder. In any case, real carrier ops know about the wind, us virtual pilots have no indication in game about the wind on a field or CV. Windsocks, anyone??? :D
Getting bounced from above was our fault for circling the CV while the CMs decided if they should be allowed to re-up. We shoulda just proceeded immediately to target.
-
Rgr that nifty! If I had us go streight to A5 the 416 RCAF might have made it. Oh well live and learn.
Next time the Mongrels can take the troops. :)

There are enough of us that we can provide ourselves escorts. 4 fighters and 4 goons is plenty, 8 goons would be pretty pointless to take 1 or even 2 bases.
Even asking the 416th to all fly goons (5 of them was it?) is a bit of overkill for taking a base, IMO. Just a thought for the next COs that have to assign goons. :)
-
Nifty, Daddog,
If it'll make you guys feels any better, your delay may have actually saved ya from being bounced by even more ki64s. Our main force was flying south. You were spotted by our scouts flying east. (Hope I'm not shot for revealing classified info)

I shot 3 Ki-61's down, and assist on a forth...woulda had me one more if my elev's were working (lost it early in the first kill)
