This upcoming patch is different from our previous patches because we upgraded to a newer compiler.
Newest version: AHIII3401TEST.EXE (http://dload.hitechcreations.com/AHIII3401TEST.EXE)
This requires specific system DLLs, which the new installer should check and prompt you to install. With this type of upgrade there is a possibility where we can get into a can't patch situation.Hence it is critical that we get many eyes on this as we can find in order to insure the installation works.
We also have moved the large resource file from the installer to be downloaded as part of the installation process.
You can play online with this new version. If it does not work, you simply have to download the current full release (http://dload.hitechcreations.com/CURRENT_RELEASE.EXE) and install it back over the top of your existing installation. No configuration files are going to be changed as a result of this test, unless you make changes yourself.
Once you have the file downloaded, simply double-click it to install it over the top of your existing game, or install it in a separate folder, if you like. Just keep track of which is which.
If you have any troubles with the installation process, please post them in this thread.
Thank you for the help!

Gonna check it out.

But did it work after it was installed? :)
-
haha forgot that bit.
Yes it did, I transferred my backup settings folder to the new install, logged in and was able to fly in the MA.
It might just be my eyes playing tricks on me but the graphics seemed a bit more realistic than with the previous version.

I don't understand any of that sorcerer's talk. Do I need to save my settings folder somewhere else before I embark on this adventure?

Oh good. I wasn’t going to try it until Ciaphas did first.
I saw Saving Private Ryan. You never want to be the first guy off the first Higgins boat.

I'll take one for the team

The patch located a Microsoft DLL it needed and after installing that began to download. However the download rate was very slow at 19kB/s (5 hours) so I cancelled the install and ran the patch again. This time it installed at a good rate. The game ran as normal.

I make a backup of my settings folder before all patches just in case.

It downloaded in five minutes or less, but the installing may take a tad longer: Downloading stdshape.res 1712251 kB at ~41 kB/s (11 hours remaining)... Maybe I should get some sleep in the meantime?
[Edit] I canceled the install as per Greebo's post but rerunning the patch doesn't improve the download speed. The third attempt seems to have done the trick, though: 13 mins remaining at ~2100 kB/s.
[Edit] Successfully downloaded and installed within a reasonable time. Let the install open the game, flew one sortie. No issues whatsoever, died as usual. Oh, and I installed over the existing game.
-
As with Bizman it was stdshape.res that was downloading slowly for me first time and I mistyped the download rate, it was 91kB/s.
-
Interesting about the download speeds. Not really sure why that happens. All the files come from the same server.
-
Will check it out.... who knows, it may fix my freeze/lockup problem :aok
-
std shape took 17 minutes to d/l. everything works fine. not really sure what to look for.

Same thing with me, 91kbs/5 hours. Canceled download and restarted, then it worked properly.
The game booted with no issues.
Edit: Flew offline for about 90 minutes using DX11 and had no freezes or micro-stutters :aok

Simply does it install and run. I'm allso crossing my fingers that the dx11 stutters go away.

Installed and ran. Res file download took 25min, about the same as downloading a full game install. No problems getting online.
-
It downloaded quickly for me and needed one DLL. I have an AT&T fiber line that is fast. Went into the MA and all looked fine, but I had no time to fly, will do that Friday.
-
Ditto what greebo said. After second try it went fast. Game seemed to run very well. But, only being back in the game for second day after 2 year hiatus I might not be a good judge.
-
Only problem I had was the download. It took for ever, and then when it loaded the stdshapes file during the install, again took for ever. I tried to restart the download a number of times and all were the same. Tried grabbing the "full install" while down loading the patch and that file was down loading 5 times faster. Strange.
-
No problems. VR no problem. Tried VR mode switch on, no problems. :aok
-
Three minute download.....no problems so far..... :old:
-
Download took 39 minutes. But this was between 7:56 and 8:35 pm Eastern time, which probably affected it.
Install was three minutes, perhaps less. No problems with the install. Game booted up right away.
As someone has said, things seem brighter and louder. But I hadn't recorded my prior gamma and sound settings, so I don't know if this is a feature of the new version, or if the new version reset these things.

Installed. Ran. No stutters.
-
The download was a little weird. I started the download for the file from the link in this thread, it was coming in at 91kB/s. It eventually stalled, so I canceled it and tried to restart it, which failed several times, then when it did succeed, it came in at 3.3MB/s. stdshape is coming in at about 2400-2600 kB/s.
It installed and ran fine, sadly for me at least, dx11 stutter remains.
Wiley.

Been in the MA for the last two hours, no more 3sec freezes.
-
Works for me.
-
Download took about 10 seconds, installation took about 5 minutes. All worked fine for me in the arena afterwards.

This may sound stupid. but to do a backup of your settings and control condigurations do you just need to save the "settings" folder in the Aces High 3 directory ?

yes, copy it and move it to a new location (ie.. your desktop).
