Idiot lights were developed later after we started protecting idiots from themselves and they started procreating.

Very well done. You have summarized, in a single sentence, what is probably the most definitive explanation as to the true source of the majority of the social problems we're now witnessing.
I know exactly what you mean and I agree 100%.

Yes, some did. But they weren't quite as accurate as our E6B.... :D

'Dad, why are you calling them idiot lights?' That was pretty much his exact response.
When I was a kid i was hanging around with my dad and his friend while they were working on his truck. They kept referring to the idiot lights and if they were still on or not.
'But why can't they just use the gauges, they need lights?'
'Because they're idiots. Idiots can't use gauges.'
The aftermarket gauge panel he intstalled in his truck made sense to me after that.
Idiot lights, I forgot about that one.
That said, I wouldn't mind an idiot light for low fuel.

Ingot Red Balled out to an F-16, jumped on Comms with the pilot and asked him what was up. He said his seat arm/not arm light wasn't working when he rotated the arming lever.
I then said "Oh, the idiot light?", he responded with "excuse me?". I asked him if he could see the arming rod and the rivet at the top of it connecting the rod to the arming lever. He stated that he could and I asked him if the rod moved up when he rotated the arming lever aft. He said it does and I responded with "that light is a reminder for aircrew to arm the seat and nothing more. If the linkage moves with the rotation of the handle, his seat was live and ready to rock and roll".
He responded with "thanks Sarge but I have to talk to the top three."
he ended up taking the aircraft and the cannon plug was replaced after last down.

Yes they had a noise dampener that made the engine quite when the tank ran dry.
(I personally have had multiple experiences with this type of dampener)
