Howdy,
I was flying in the AvA Monday Madness the other day. IMO, having selected planes by year fight each other on each side really makes for much better fights. One of the problems I came across is that players just get into KI43s and A6Ms so that they can outurn every plane and gang at will in their easy turn planes. Also, I think being able for everyone to fly the same planes takes away from the "AvA" experience. My belief is that planes built in the same year have similar advantages, which makes for more, how do I say, structurally fair fights. Also, if it's AvA, it provides a more realistic concept. I just think that everyone hopping into the best turny birds takes away from the fun of it being fairly competitive.

I go there for the fun... I fly my P38J all the time. I kill and get killed....... and laugh about it either way.
If you ain't havin' fun, you're doing it wrong!
-
The turny planes dominate because of the terrain; a small space with lots of tall buildings. Now I enjoy that kind of fight but, if we rotated terrains say every other week. We could give the faster high wing loaded planes some room to play. I miss Twin Rivers, Guadalcanal, The Atolls and Burma. Don't know how the regulars and staff would feel about that...
-
This is just the MNM setup.
Nothing says there can't be Terrific Tuesdays, Wild Eyed Wednesdays, Tactical Thumping Thursday......
:aok
-
Please keep in mind that MMN and TNTN last only a couple of hours on Monday and Thursday during the week.
Meanwhile, the arena is set as Axis vs Allies all week and it's a ghost town despite all the effort the dedicated staff members have contributed.
There is absolutely nothing stopping anyone from advertising and promoting their own weekly event on the regular AvA setups. The staff would welcome such an effort and fully cooperate in selecting the terrains and planesets.
Ball's in your court now and I'm looking forward to showing up for your event. :airplane:

Nahhh... I don't want BnZers and long high alt fights flying for 3-8 minutes to the fight.
I actually really like the map though it could use a couple more bases to roll from.
I really just want the planes to be more relatively even in terms of year, but I also think it's cool to keep it AvA to make it a tad more realistic.
Planes in the same year fighting against each other, especially in the same theater, really make for some great fights.

Yall should keep up the relatively small map making like the one in MM. That's exactly what I have been talking about. Perhaps a few more bases could be added for randomness. Overall it's a really fun fighting area.
My only thing is to keep it in the AvA spirit and make it theater oriented so all the players don't just fly KI43s and a6Ms all of the time. Fights are much better when planes are relatively equal in terms of year and theater.

This.
Monday Night Madness has become one of the AvA's most successful events - so don't change a thing! But the same sort of thing could be done with a limited AvA plane set. Just do it on a different night.

Could we at least take away the Ki43? Such a stupid plane.

That was my point exactly. Add to that what Easy said..... AVA exist every night and is a two sided regular arena. If you enjoy the more authentic Axis vs Allies (2 sided) then this is the arena for you. The trick is to get the "like minded individuals in the game to get in the habit of checking the AVA when signing in.
There are quite a few folks who champion the two sided events. All that is needed is to get them to come.. the field of dreams has been built with a team that is very willing to acomodate players on setups.
Add to this the "SPECIAL EVENTS" such as Monday Night Madness and Tank Night (Tank Thumping Thursdays?). Not anything to lose really.
I, of course, would be one willing to change sides to even up. I can crash Axis Iron as well as Allied Iron.

I tell you all what! I will be willing to set up the arena in any terrain we have, with whatever plane set you want ..
All you have to do is simply bring in your squads and other squads to fight ! Call it a squad night practice for FSO or whatever you want ! It has been my experience that if someone sees there is more than five players in the arena, They will come and investigate! then before you know it,, We have a battle and a ball !! Just pm me and I will be happy to do it on any night but Monday and Thursday!

Actually I will fly anything. I prefer my 38 but can have fun in them all. I am more than willing to fly Axis Iron to even up. When I am in there and have not canged or noticed it uneven... just ask and ill gladly move over.

I know, im just teasing. ive seen you fly many different planes.
question 1: I have a terrain that's small with 4 airbases, but flat ground. nothing to hide behind, nothing to dodge. 2 planes for each side, must be axis vs allies planes, same year frame. 4 bases close proximity to each other.
option 2: I build a terrain, 4 bases close proximity, put in a city or skyscrapers or hills or 4000ft walls. low alt, dodge trees and building setup like we normally have.
please give us your input.

The second option sounds the best, imo. All I'm really saying is that getting ganged by a spit8 and a Ki43/a6m every sortie is tiring, and I'd prefer not to have to resort BnZ or being in a Ki43 myself to compete... Y'all wouldn't want that. Definitely think y'all got the right idea with the maps though!

For just straight up fighting I would like to see a rolling hills setup. This brings the ground more into play as a weapon. Roll off one way and you are splat..... roll the other and you are golden. By a few feet.
Do not mess with MNM though. :aok
-
ill see what I can do about a more hilly terrain. as for MNM, its is, what it is. I get blasted by the I16, and the brewsters.
-
how about a grand canyon terrain?
-
Canyon fighting is always good. We used to meet in the DA with a group of like minded individuals. We would fight in the canyon and not go up over the ridge. Lot of fun was had back then.
This got me to thinking back when the 80th met up with the Muppets. All in heavy bombers and we started dogfighting. That was a hoot.
-
Yes canyon fighting is a lot of fun!

That's sort of the point to my post. Limiting the plane selection to more balanced matchups makes for much better fights without having to result to flying the easiest turny plane or resulting to BnZing to compete.

ok whats considered midwar planes?

Hiya boys
OM...I'm always lurking the boards
Old computer finally died and I'm getting a little more freetime in the evenings now that #1 daughter has been off to college..... so the itch is starting to return :old: Old computer that couldn't handle the new AH finally died, and built a new one couple weeks ago. So far I've downloaded the latest version, but grounded until I get some rudder pedals...either bought, or built...checking home built plans now.
Hope to see you all soon

Let me know if you build!! I’d like to give that a try My legs are in a way that I can’t get my feet together enough to use a standard rudder pedal. So I need to build something.

hiya Duke!!! great to see ya!!!
