4 retired SwAF pilots where awarded the U.S Air medal for their actions during an incident involving a SR-71 in 1987, the right engine of the Blackird exploded over the Baltic. The crippled plane entered Swedish air space shortly after and where intercepted by 2 Viggens. They decided to escort the Blackbird back to safety (they where replaced by a 2nd pair of viggens) to keep it safe from WP fighters until it reached Danish air space.
