Since there has been some discussion about fighter Rank metrics lately, I dusted off a proposal I put together a while back but never posted. That proposal is shown below. This proposal is not an attempt to determine Pilot SKILL, but rather to suggest that the metrics that determine the Tour winner encourage sub-optimum fighter combat for an MMO. This gripe has been expressed by many over time. It's a given that all players don;t play for score, but since there is a scoring system it's logical to assume it has some effect. if that effect is small than changing it is a small risk so debating whether a scoring system matters should be a different thread. For this discussion I hope to focus on what metrics should be used to determine fighter pilot Rank. Thank You :salute

Looking good, but does not an ENY 30 plane with quad Hispanoes and 4 mg's deserve to get lower kill points than an equal plane with one 20mm and 2 mg's ?
We probably never [or in 2 weeks ;) ] see a change in ENY even if it is warranted, maybe number of hit% can be used instead ?
Thinking a Mossie vs a Bf109F4 kill potential will be exponential harder for the fragile 109F ,that have to use it's .45 to increase firepower, both on ENY 30 :)

ENY includes ords capability and other factors. The P-51 is an ENY 5 partly because it carries 2k of ords and has long range. so perhaps a fighter-plane ranking could be added in the background for use with he score system, so the ENY system and fighter rank can be kept separate.

I may be using the wrong term. By ENY I mean the base ENY number of each plane in the hangar. Not varying arena setting that determines perk cost or ENY limit. EX: P-51 = 5, P-39 = 40. So the P-39 would get a 40/5=8* multiplier. or some lesser percent of that ratio.

yes some adjustment to the plane ranking would probably be needed.

Interesting ideas...I assume there would have to be an entire re-write to award points based on the likes of energy states. I can't imagine the game records that kind of stuff.
With that said, I do like the idea of adjusting ENY values based on their other abilities rather than strictly fighter. I think ENY values could use an overhaul in general.

I made kills.... good.
I was shot down..... bad.
I had fun overall.... great.
That is my importance.

2 things:
Distance from friendly field seems to me to reward vulching if I'm reading this right.
Do you really want your score on FoF ratio tied to the behavior of other people? Can see a lot of room for whining when other people show up to the fight.

True. But that would be offset by e-state differential, perhaps even encouraging base defense since the defenders would be out numbered by planes with much higher E states. So a defender that gets one kill and is vulched 3 times might get as many points as the vulchers. It would reward gunner kills by buffs headed for strats. it would also reward fighters escorting bombers.

Your score is currently dependent on the behavior of others. If you think you're in a 1v1 in the MeLee arena your situational awareness has failed you. :) :salute

How so on the escorts? An escort that's in a low E state is doing a bad job IMO. Also, now that I think about it, it would reward BnZ in that your E state at the top of a rope is going to be relatively low if the guy below you is doing a decent job of maintaining his E.

But it's not of primary importance in the local area you're in, killstealing aside.

you're such a liar. If you were telling the truth your list would be..
I took off
I drank a beer on clime out
I made a bunch of funny jokes on 200
I had fun overall.....great.

Differential E state. On a rope or an escort the E states are the same between killer and killee so it's not a factor. The factor on escorts is that you are very far from base.
Differential E state is largest on vulches where bloth are low but one plane is 4X the speed of the other. And on alt advantages where you encounter an enemy 1v1 and he's 5K above you. :salute

Too complicated. Also penalizes someone for starting below the fight and using better e management to end the fight with an energy advantage.
Might be better to use a multiplier on kills per time or total kills to reward aggressive play vs k/d or k/s which encourage minimizing risk.

Substitute frozen margaritas for beer and you got me.
