Title: Latest patch failed same as last one

Patch failed for following files:
C:\Hitech Creations\Aces High III\htdlg.res

Post by: 715 on January 16, 2019, 08:30:04 PM: Same for me with Patch 5: failed with C:\Hitech Creations\Aces High III\htdlg.res. On my system this file is dated 11/13/2018 and is writeable by "Authenticated Users". Windows 7 on SSD.

Post by: Skuzzy on January 17, 2019, 06:02:14 AM: When you get this error, you MUST install the full version of the game over the top of the existing one or the error will persist and the game will become unstable with all manner of odd problems.

There are two ways for this to happen.

1) Some anti-xxxx program false triggers and corrupts the file.
2) We hit the bug many SSD's have where file replacement fails.

Post by: ccvi on January 17, 2019, 05:02:54 PM: Are the dowload servers prepared for 50% of the players doing a full download? That seems to be the ratio of people for whom the update failed.

Do you have a link to details of the bug? The only very common "issue" I can think of is that writes and directory updates are not synchronized (a file that was just written does not exist yet in the directiry table). But that's always been the case, just more visible with faster disks. I doubt it qualifies as a bug.

Downloaded the fresh installer, installed / let the installer run its downloads.

Compared the htdlg.res from the copies (as before, and with fresh install on top): Equal.

Post by: ccvi on January 20, 2019, 10:19:01 AM: Next attempt was successful: Fresh installation to a fresh directory. Now the file differs indeed.

Re-running the last update on it, also the udpater is happy about the file.

Post by: 715 on January 25, 2019, 08:23:33 PM: In my case I did not do a full install, but the latest patch worked properly and the file in question is now the latest version (i.e. has a current date).
