Most people would never know who I was. I think I was in the game during its prime, but even I don't know because the prime may have been at some point after.
With the Steam release and peeps trying to understand why the game had less of a population than it should I felt I should portray the vision that made me leave the game many years ago. I don't even know if this is still the case, but when the game made my front screen impossible to see through because of an oil hit...I left.
I was a turnfighter (and one of the better ones) for a long time. I loved the game, I loved the hate you get for an opponent who was as good as yourself. But that one move of adding a visual impairment to a percentage of the players who played the game a "certain" way turned me away.
I loved my time in Aces High! They are a community that I will always associate with (every few years or so), and I hope you all bring the game to what it was! I just wanted to add my two cents to clarify, that the path you all choose now determines what makes the game fun!
-
Interestingly enough, some of the planes in AH3 I've noticed do not shed oil all over the screen.
I guess you'll just have to play the game to find out which ones :D
We need more "turners"
:salute
-
I did enjoy being one of Ah's villains back in the day.
May need to dust my joystick off....if I can still find where I left it....
PS. Stop being nice to me...I did mention I was at one time the villain...
-
Sounds similar to darkness in the MA.. you can literally watch the action dry up.
-
?
The MA was where everything happened....
-
What I referred to was with AH II (I think), where if you were in a turnfight with someone, and a 109 buzzed you and hit you once....all you would see was oil in your screen. You would end up losing the fight because you couldn't see what the hell was happening. That is the time a lot of us left to go to other games.
My point is not to defeat the game, but to let Hitech know why some of us left so that he is informed. Nothing more.
-
And you are the Lazerr. I noticed we both joined the game in 2002 :).
Good to see you again. I was wondering if you were the same person I knew long ago.

Now that you've mentioned it, you are right....it is a lot easier to still see and dogfight after being damaged with an oil leak in AH3
Manx, I have several different kinds of sticks and throttles , if you need one
Be great to see you back flying in the game

Good to see ya, think i flew a few months in your squad. Its totally worth $14.95 if you can play between the hours of 12pm and 12am CST. Id come use you as bait.. err help keep you alive for awhile while you get back in the groove. ;)
I remember you liking 38s, and possibly the typhoon?
-
Never had any issues with oil in the 38,110, Mossi. No idea why :D
People buzzing through fights usually no longer cause oil leaks. They simply disassemble the complete plane.
-
Strange. I never had oil on my windshield.
Even when both my engines suffered oil hits :D
-
If you have an engine in front of you... that can be an issue. Many a real pilot came home covered in oil inside the cockpit.
Try turning in a 38. :D
-
I know from personal experience what landing with oil on the wind screen is like. Before that I never new engine oil was a natural laxative.
HiTech
-
Damaged engines and oil on the windscreen is like missing an elevator or aileron, I can still get a kill. It's just harder. That's the challenge. Can I adapt?
If not, I still get a new plane. :joystick:
HONK!

you quit because you got oil on your windscreen, a little extreme don't you think, I mean the planes here still get oil on the windscreens, r u willing to take a chance?
-
Some planes are worse for vision with the oil leak, I think the typhoon might be one of the more miserable ones but I cannot remember. As far as oil and laxatives go, in WWI the rotary engines used castor oil which is in fact a laxative and a lot of it would be blown back into the pilots face when the engine was operating normally. Lovely.

Is this why they had open cockpits? :bolt:

Stop Trolling and making excuse's !!! Buddy someone tried to Run with the 416th Lynx again but that did not last long the Original CO of that Squad needs to come back and get his Spitfire uncovered and come fly with Us Oldtimers who still fly here :old: :old:. I am sure OlLimb will crap himself if he saw you back he still plays the game also along with a few others from the Golden Years of AW and here.

That's not the way to encourage past subscribers to rejoin our ranks and increase the numbers.
-
I have to land with oil on my screen just about every time I tangle with shuffler on Monday nights. that's assuming he doesn't put me back in the tower to shorten my trip! it is what is. if you worry that much about a little oil on the screen, maybe you should be playing candyland, not aces high.

Since when is honesty not the best policy? The guy quit because you can't see through oil... today you still can't see through oil.

If you didn't fly so close to me while pulverizing my engines with your shells, you wouldn't have oil all over your canopy....

This. What is the correct response? Do we need to validate his feelings more?

Didn't say anything about honesty please don't put words in my mouth. What I said was that lunaticfringe statement and here it is again:you quit because you got oil on your windscreen, a little extreme don't you think, I mean the planes here still get oil on the windscreens, r u willing to take a chance?
was not the best way to attract and retain new players.

I would love to see him come back and give it a go again, just not under false pretenses. The whole idea is to have fun here.
-
but when the game made my front screen impossible to see through because of an oil hit...I left.
I'd love it and play more often if oil hits did not effect the plane vision so badly. Sigh...
-
and the answer is: don't get hit in the engine! acm is your friend
-
Oil on windscreen from oil leaks was far worse than it is now, it was almost impossible to see out of a few plane's cockpits.
-

Here is a bit of trivia.... oil hits were not introduced to impede the vision of the pilot, it was actually put in as a forethought to letting us upload out pic for our pilot. Some of us are not that handsome so the oil keeps others from having to see us.... I mean you. Uhummm.
-
Fly a 38 no Oil on the window Problems at all :devil :devil Or any kinda bomber
-
uhhh this guy quit why is this thread still going

loony he has been gone for years just like Us Ol AW players that flew every version of AH they return,,,,,, also if ya noticed he has responed to his own thread lately either... :devil

it was annoying, and while there was a long list of reasons to quit this game, oil leaks weren’t really one of them.

Holy chit, it's Manx. Looks like I stepped in just in time to catch the cat draggin all kinds in. Oil Manx? Really? I left for several reasons, mostly because of the split arenas, failure to evolve, cesspools, and other more sensitive issues better left alone. Guess the cesspool is gone. Yay.
-
What you don't like realistic? Probably one of the dumbest reason I have read about why people leave the game. Trust me I know from first hand experience in real live flying real airplanes when oil hits the windscreen you cannot see manure out of it. You fly and land the best way you can by looking out the sides or opening a side window and hoping you can find the runway. :old:

The date shown in the forum has nothing to do with when someone joins the game. I was in the game 3 years before I ever joined this forum.

Actually I did try to respond, however the forum doesn't work terribly well on a mac. Great to see everyone though!
I may try to play in the Spring. Loved the game and loved the people.
As for the oil, I was a turnfighter for the most part who liked fighting in the fray (when there was a fray). Trying to fight in a furball and then getting hit by a bnz to make it so you couldn't see did make it so the game was less fun. Less response to controls was fine...not being able to see and keep fighting was a deal breaker. I do wish they hadn't put that in.
loony he has been gone for years just like Us Ol AW players that flew every version of AH they return,,,,,, also if ya noticed he has responed to his own thread lately either... :devil

I still appreciate all the help Manx gave the 479th in switching over and transitioning to AH from AW.
-
The 441 in my handle is actually a tribute to the 441 silverfox squad I was a part of, which was a division of Manx’s 4wing squadron in AW3 RRE1 on gamestorm. Hey Manx!
-
I still appreciate all the help Manx gave the 479th in switching over and transitioning to AH from AW.
Wasn't much of a transition, just had to get use to what features of AW didn't exists in AH.

Oh jeebus, here is traveler with his 2 cents. The flight model was very different, some in the 479th hadn't played anything but AW and were not used to the more advanced flight model and Manx helped them get used to it.

The two games were very much alike, both had sheep, both were capture the flag by putting 10 troops in the map room on the airfield. what ever did happen to the sheep?

You are correct AW and AH are almost identical games because they both had WWII and WWI planes in them. And both have/had players who can be complete jerks.

If I recall correctly, 8 drunks needed to capture a base in AW not 10.
AW troops were more zealous.

why I left..... wait I didn't leave!! LOL between tank nights, Monday night madness and FSO and some occasional fun in the MA, I cant leave!! oh and by the way, im not a jerk, but I see plenty in my rear view mirror!! LOL
people need to thicken up their skins and just play the game and have fun. yes there will always be jerks, just ignore them!! that's what most of us do.
its not picture perfect, but it never will be. so make the best of it, shut up and play!!
now, hitech, I need a T38, dual engined dual tank, so that shuffler will come in and play tank night with us. code away!!
as for the rest of you, get a grip and have some fun. if you don't play the game, subscribe, if you do play the game, why are you wasting your time posting in here
when you could be in the MA getting your butts handed to you!!
just my 2 cents, rant over now!!!

You are confusing some customers with all customers. The subset is not the set.

Man that is a brilliant setup for a fodder bag!
I will ask my wife to undo the head cover from my sweatshirt and saw it to the front.

That escalated quickly....
I did dig out my old joystick and will see if it works. Might need to spend a bit of time in the training arena before entering the main to get used to things again...but I am hoping to try the game out again soon.
And I really had fun helping some of the AW players into AH back in the day. Well...was fun until they all got good and started shooting me down....

I recently started playing again after real life needed me more than the game. I think AHII was the last one I played. Still trying to get used to all the new changes and stuff. It's fun though. I'm glad I came back now that I have some time. <Cheers>

You guys start the Lynx again, and I'll fly for you guys for once.
It's been years since I flew. Back in the day I could run a squad....now I think I'd rather follow for a while....
