Can someone refresh me on the use of the .speed commands and what they are for the most popular bombers
-
you can use the the .speed command to make your crate climb at a specific speed.
ie... If you hit alt+x you enter auto climb (speed) your crate will climb at 150 mph and if you open the chat area and type .speed 180 and hit enter, your crate will climb at 180 mph.
be careful not to change your speed in to high of increments as your air raft will dive to gain the required speed.

It's not always defaulted to 150 either, at least with fighters.

Default climb speeds for all aircraft are set at their best sustained climb speeds
And the speeds vary across the plane set
Hope this helps

I should have added "in my experience 150 is default".

.speed can also be used to maintain a specific speed in a descent.
Set the speed, throttle back and engage auto-speed.

that comes in real handy when descending in buffs.

:aok Yep. That's what I always use in my B-17's. Just on the verge of ripping off the wings when I need to get down fast.
I also use it when I'm about out of fuel to get the longest glide slope I can.

Don't forget about the Typhoon. It has a default climb speed of 180, at that speed you will circle to the right, but if you set it at 200 you will fly straight. If you fly at default always take off 90 degrees to the left and by the time you get to altitude you will in the correct direction.

Best climb depends on current mass. Being heavy speed a bit higher than when a bit lighter. And the speed decreases with altitude (but depending on what chargers are used).
Best climb rate (feet/min up) is not the same as best climb angle, which is reached at slightly slower speed.
Gliding for maximum distance isn't at best rate either, but at slightly higher speed.
The proper numbers are documented in the respective planes pilot operations handbook.
In the game I like to set the speed much higher. Getting anywhere faster is more important than getting higher (usually).

I like to stair step the .speed command.
Start out at 150 and step the speed up roughly every 2000 ft.
0-2k : 150
2-4k: 160
4-6k: 180
6-8k: 190
8-10k: 200
between 12-15k: level
This varies depending on the buff I am using.
