Wanted to say a farewell to all the many people here I have had the pleasure of sharing the virtual skies of Aces High. I have canceled my account.
I have taken extended breaks before that were meant to be just that, breaks. This time, however, I do not see myself returning.
I don't want to spend to much time explaining the reasons that I'm leaving, but I will say that there are many factors involved, a few of which have nothing at all to do with this game. This game is great and always has been. But the main reason is the numbers here and the player base that is left. I believe the golden days of AH are behind us, never to return (do to several factors). The player number base has fallen such that when I log in (especially during my prime time, 8am-12pm EST.), it's pretty much the same group of about 50-60 players. And a certain percentage of these people are cantankerous old codgers who are not helpful, courteous, or nice in any sense. Moreover, a smaller percentage are downright nasty and will treat you with contempt no matter what you do. I can't imagine being a noob and trying this game nowadays. I'd be out in the first 20 minutes do to the rudeness. And that's just channel 2/country chat. Not to mention 200.
Not even the scenarios appeal to me any longer as I've found that, with the smaller numbers, it is almost impossible for the scenario team to build a balanced, fun event and then have people show up to lead and fly in them.
In short, I can no longer log into AH and have fun in any way and when the frustration/boredom outweigh the fun, it's time to go.
I'll still have a peek in here to see what's going on but as it stands, I will not be re-subbing.
So, goodbye to all the many wonderful friends I have made here. And a huge thanks to HTC for making this thing that has given me so much enjoyment over all these years.

Are you selling your joystick etc?
How much?

Look in the classified forum, my dude.

You fly European times that early in the morning. I heard that is slower.
Current scenario is equal sided and having a good time.

Very Lebowski. Sorry to see you go. :salute

Sorry to see you go Dace. I think, unfortunately there will be plenty of people leaving soon. This game is going down hill faster and faster. I find it harder and harder to log in and have ANY fun any more.

You still looking through those rose color glasses Shuff? FSO is down 20% from the same time last year. The guys running them seem to have to do a lot of last minutes adjustments to TRY and make them work.
Numbers keep falling in the MA, bugs in the game (disco/reconnect issues, film viewer, alt F4 to exit riftval map) that arent fixed, no new toys in forever unless you call a dancing pilot that can be captured on film now :devil On top of that, the toxic environment the arena has. It has gone way beyond the ribbing we use to have. Some of it could be used in a court room for abuse charges, yet nothing is done to stem it, chasing away more and more players.
-
Out of curiosity, what makes it so you can't fly in US prime time? Work schedule? It's a shame because the US prime time numbers seems to be slightly up from recent months.

If you are determined to have no fun, you will have no fun. It becomes a problem if you try to ruin it for others. I am enjoying it regardless.

You are like a fish, happy in the middle of a shrinking pool of water in the desert, unable to see the edges encroaching and deaf to those already beached on the sands in the European, Japanese and Australasian timezones. The pool will not shrink in a linear way. The party's over and the end is nigh. And now over to Heidi, for the weather...

Out of curiosity, what makes it so you can't fly in US prime time? Work schedule? It's a shame because the US prime time numbers seems to be slightly up from recent months.
Dace said " The player number base has fallen such that when I log in (especially during my prime time, 8am-12pm EST.), it's pretty much the same group of about 50-60 players" which is the meaty part of US prime time. 9PM eastern time we had 140 on a Saturday night during winter which is when most people are stuck inside. Thats what 45 players per side or so? In most cases it 90 vs 45 or 45 vs 45 with the other 45 with nobody to fight.
If you are determined to have no fun, you will have no fun. It becomes a problem if you try to ruin it for others. I am enjoying it regardless.
Im determined to have fun, its the ONLY reason I log in when I do. When trying to watch my films back (big issues with the film viewer this week) Sunday morning I noticed you and a bunch of other knights having fun hording it over a base, which on the other side of things makes it even MORE fun for those being horded <--- sarcasm btw
You can call it great and fun all you want but there just seems to be a cancer eating away at the game play.
The game use to be about fighting, fighting air to air, fighting for a base, fighting CV to CV/shore base. Now its either chase runners in "air to air" , get picked by the score potatos when/if you do catch a runner. Sneak bases, and give up to move some place else if the least amount of defense shows up, or dive bombing lancs to hit a CV kamikaze style over and over until its sunk.
Very few make missions, few join missions. The battle has gone from the game which to me made the game so deep. Defend a base? bah! run supplies in, much easier and needs little skill or planning.
Heaven forbid you shoot down one of the "top fighter" guys  <--- I giggle as I type that ! you'll be harassed and hunted the rest of the night.
It use to be fun hunting with your squadies ( less than half of the 56th is left, they have left for other games), It use to be fun trash talking with your friends on the other side (hard to do these days as more and more detune 200 to avoid the toxic BS), It use to be fun fighting in epic battles for base (most sneak or horde bases now)
I keep trying, but it gets harder and harder to find the fun.

What? 8AM to 12PM EST is not US prime time.

Sorry to see ya leave Dace. :salute I can understand how it gets old sometimes, especially for the older fellas and how long it takes to get into the action and dealing with running Yak3s, 190Ds, and dingbats.

#s are increasing in the MA during primetime. There were 184 last night which is the highest I've seen. Some big fights out there, but they were challenging.
Imo, the cancer is late war monster planes that cause timid gameplay and puts more people in late war planes to counter. They make it too easy to escape so they never learn real acm or how to actually fight. Perking more of these late war planes that saturate the main arena with kill counts would go a long way to making the game play more fun again.

I get that. The game is not like it used to be. You, Dace, Nrshida and many others hearken back to the old days, and the contrast disappoints. What I don't get is: What's the point of moaning about it? Nagging people that they should act differently rarely works (ask your wife if you don't believe me). Meanwhile, the constant background proclamations that the end is nigh make life notably less pleasant for people who are enjoying the present state of things. The pond is shrinking. A cancer is eating the game. The abandon ship signal has sounded. Got it. Wake me up when the game shuts down. Until then, please just keep it to yourselves.

Because if it isnt continually brought up people are going to start thinking "all is welll!" and it isnt. Then everyone is going to say all of a sudden, "What happened to AH?" when its gone.
Things CAN be done, things SHOULD be done, but NOTHING IS DONE. Newbies are leaving in the first hour of play, why? Toxic atmosphere? have more MODs and have then be a bit more strict than they have been. Newbs getting shot down too fast? Change the damage multiplier for the first month so it take 4 times the hits to drop one.
Hire someone to go full time on doing nothing but pushing this game and WO:P on ALL social media outlets. Post pictures, videos, updates, game stats, up coming scenarios, anything and everything. More post means more traffic. More traffic means more intrest. More intrest means more subs! and its all free except the person doing the job of posting.

You mean nagging? That just never works at all.
People here know you are unhappy. We kind of get the idea you won't be happy until we are all unhappy.

Im not the only one that sees the issues. Many others have, and many others have left. I certainly dont want anyone to be unhappy, its none of my doing. That is not my agenda here. Im hoping that if I keep dropping ideas, other will drop their ideas, and maybe something will click at HTC and some changes will be made and the game..... that we all love, could get better and come back to life with numbers increasing and more and more action of all types come back to the MAs and scenarios.
Because we all know, the "status quo" really isnt working any more. Time to make some changes.

No disco/reconnect issues here and I am located in Eastern Europe so very far away. I am also using a very old PC. Film viewer is bad, but you an use a capture card like most people who post game footage about other games. No knowledge about the Alt F4 thing. Toxic environment is often not reported. Funny thing is that what happens in MA sometimes stays in MA. I have met some of the MA loudmouths in events and they are really cool people to wing up and fly with. Totally different to the impression I get in MA. Great team players and tough fighters.

I'm sure you probably do not realize it but I know most every time I see you here late you are complaining. Even in game it seems that way.
You were never like that before. We all know the game is not perfect. We know some things could be changed. We all wish folks would stay and fight. I find good nights far more than bad so I am ok.
No game is perfect. I watched some fortnight videos the other night and it made me scratch my head.... such a silly game. No idea what kids find so fascinating about it. Glad AH is not like that.
-
Either a game is relevant and its population grows
Or
A game is no longer relevant and the population decreases.
We should be arguing how to grow and keep players, not squabbling.
(Some of my ideas)
- Make the game minimize into the system tray (so you can idle easier).
- Make smaller, more intense maps that suit the player count.
- Delete all the old accounts/usernames so people can take new ones.
-
Good luck to ya Dace. We had some fun. Should you return your kite is waiting for ya. In this case, your DGS II 4th Mustang :)

The scenarios from the leadership standpoint are FUBAR as just a pilot they look fine outside of that small scope they are on fire and falling.

Ciao baby! curious though as to what comparable combat sim you'll run to. Have fun where ever you fly.
Probably the best suggestion on here. I had slowed my playing the past months and got the final nudge to cancel my sub after forum postings knocked off by a non existent, invisible forum rule. WW2 online gets my $15 now and the new experience keeps this 70 yr old reflexes going. If I get the urge to get back into it WOP keeps the urge awake. But like pots says, "have fun".

Seems you're posting poo about AH and the forum just fine, to me. :old:

Dace good luck! Was fun flying with you and your Dad. I've been out for almost a year. Unfortunately I don't miss it. Gave my controllers to my Grandson. I've got other things to do.
Game is still great but time and society passes. I've seen more guys in a Bar fight then in scenarios or the MA for that matter. Game has passed me by. Just bored.

Same old denialists same old self delusion from same ole lazy baby-boomers who don't want to face the fact that there is no analogous replacement to what Aces High once was, avoid their responsibility for their part in its downfall and self-medicate as their familiar comfort zone shrinks like a deflated balloon and their retirements are about to get even more dull than originally planned. You are not in the game yet you still try to destroy it. Numbers are rising despite folks like you.

I don't think there is anyone denying that AH isn't what it once was (numbers wise) and may not ever become that again, but don't rain on other people's parades for still trying to enjoy the game that has brought many years of enjoyment for everyone involved. That is clearly your only goal here, so why do you stick around?

I think Shida once aspired to be recognized and honored by the community for his great contributions but when that didn't happen (it actually required a worthy contribution) he became embittered. Hell hath no fury like a Shida scorned.

I personally never had a problem with nrshida before. It's just that this kind of posting from the same few gets old.

Shida likes being punched in the spuds by men in PVC and rubber masks :old:

I’m just f**kin pissed the game’s going down the toilet and this sticking of heads in the sand has been a contributory factor. In retrospect a good dose of bitter honesty shoved down the throat farther upstream might have saved this game.
None of you actively posting have actually paused and given some thought to why the MA is the only populated arena have you? Why AvA is essentially a sideshow, events nearly extinct, The duelling / Match Play Arena like ghost-towns, DA lake removed. Anyone, no? No profound insight into the significance of that? Course not. Even the OP initiated the tedious, inevitable, numb-skulled undercurrent of "well, if you don't like it, leave it".
You are not in the game yet you still try to destroy it.
I still fly and have served enough time and come far enough to make informed comment. You just don’t like things that Fugitive and I are saying and would say anything to shut out the noise. I've lost count of the number of players - new and old - I've trained, sometimes for months on end and at the cost of hours per week for years. Some are even in this thread. And I was not motivated by recognition as has been suggested, it was to try and keep equitable gameplay alive. This is commensurate to wishing to destroy the game? You can point your finger elsewhere.
Numbers are rising despite folks like you.
You have to be pretty desperate to confuse small clusters of returning players with new players. Ask lots of questions do they, how to set up controllers, how to turn without stalling, who can help them with ACM? Sounds of squeakers filling the airways, no?
The MA is now the only arena with any noticeable activity left and is now as thoroughly inaccessible to new players as it could possibly be. It is replete with selfish, shortsighted Charlie Sheen-replicas, not particular skillful at dogfighting but absolutely tiptop at risk assessment and when to run to save their planes / scores / egos (well, that’s what they did in the war). Oldman isn’t even anything remarkable in his self-centred view of all things AH, he’s pretty standard now.
All the diversity of gameplay has been driven out of AH replaced with an RPS bolstering to resolve the imbalance between an inability to learn against an unwillingness to accept limitations. And on the forum / 200 week in, week out all you hear is how Millennials are the problem with their (nonexistent) need for instant gratification. Projection, in its purest form.
Realistically Arlo - I've noticed you've been doing your damnest to try and troll me since I've dropped back in - I'm not interested in arguing with you. I just don't particularly care what you say or think and your motivation is transparent. If you really want to have a go at me then your only option for a meaningful contest would be to come into the MPA and fight 1-on-1. You can even fly an F4U-4 if you like. No perks in there (happily extend the offer to anyone else offended by anything I say or have said). This will afford you the opportunity to find out what my motivation for playing AH actually has been.
Why don't you PM me for an appointment.
-
Numbers are not rising. Actually the past week have been some of the worst numbers in a while for the ma. I would suspect the numbers bump were around the cold weather that has been coming in.
It’s practically impossible to get a fight in the Ma these days unless you are willing to fight 3 or more. There are very few that will fight 1v1 much less 3v1 so you are left with a bunch of hovering planes waiting on the first idiot that dares to come near.
I get what shida is saying. Just a few years ago I remember cv fights at bases for what seemed ever. I remember a huge fur ball between bases not one country hovering over there base for ever waiting till the others dare cross the dar ring. But that’s what we are left with now in the ma and stinks
-
You definitely have some issues going there.
The other night, mid week, there was 198 players on. Last night less. In general the numbers seem to be climbing. That is even with the few negative individuals that keep posting the same old thing over and over.
So you left and went somewhere else, earlier in the thread.... and now you still fly here. I guess we need to either not see you or see you to really know.
I will leave you to your time of being upset. I have far better things to do. Enjoy your crankiness.
-
The numbers are increasing and a lot of new names :old:
No more look at me people left which is very civilised and polite.
If you dont play every week and complain about numbers your being daft.
I might rage quit on Saturday :old:
I feel triggered and disgusted the AH have provided a safe space :old:
Shida needs a safe space a really big one :rofl

The #s have been growing slightly. :rock
IMO, the biggest thing that will have a great impact on many people's fun in playing in the MA, would be to make radar harder to destroy and get rid of the "if a friendly sees you on radar everyone else can see you" this incourages ganging. Making the radar harder to destory would simply fix all radar issues. Secondly, making more late war planes perked. Planes can easily escape by hitting X providing them the single greatest Advantage in Air combat. The saturated top kills planes are not unnoticed. I plead with HTC to perk more late war planes. Mid war planes create such better fights. It would fix the "everyone runs" syndrome, and it would give perks more of a meaning. It would cause players to actually have to learn defense maneuvers and you would see far less timid boring flying.
When it comes to match play and AVA. Match play needs to allow players to choose their dueling partners. If a squad wants to fight another squad. How do they do that in the Match play currently? That's the biggest issue right now.
I think what would really help the AvA is having small island maps, where players can see both sides in one area. I still feel as though people see the maps and get discouraged. I am still praying some one will recreate the smog 8 map. There is a good reason why it was so successful in H2H. Even with 4 players it was great. I think the AvA has done well with their recent maps and is on the right track to making more great ones. The only other thing after that is making sure there are 2 or more flying in the arena at all times which would incourage more people to join the arena looking for some quick action. I think that is a huge factor as well.

Hard to argue with any of that. Yup... pert near impossible to argue with that.

Oldman isn’t even anything remarkable in his self-centred view of all things AH, he’s pretty standard now.
Well, hey, all these years and I'm finally mainstream! Thanks, nrshida, that means a lot. I'm in from the cold at last.
In the meantime, consider that you, and others who constantly pace the sidewalks holding "The End is Near" signs aloft while (whilst?) howling epithets into microphones, may have been among the many, many causes of the decline in numbers from AH's peak.
Or don't. I'm certain that you consider yourself a prophet who is stoned in his own time, but will be revered by later generations. Take comfort in that warm, fuzzy thought.

Just another reason why HTC needs a full time Social media person. 18 hours of looking in to the game and Im the only guy helping him out.

funny how a few months ago people complained that they would see a full darbar but couldnt find a fight. now they see where the fight when a friendly is nearby and some complain that it's unfair.
the "nearby" darbar has provided more fights than anything else in the past couple of years.

Welp.. My back has finally healed after shoveling out of a record 30in of snow.. The snow has mostly melted, it was a glorious 50deg and sunny yesterday.. The sun has finally risen far enough to shine in our dark little valley between the high ridges, YAY.. Broke out the mountain bike and rode down into town, had a couple beers and rode back up the hill to home.. It was WONDERFUL!
Time to burn off all the winter fat I packed on.. And I have built couple new AR15s that need to be zeroed.. A 24in .224Valkyrie, and 16in .458SOCOM.. Back to the 3d world..
Not sayin Goodbye.. Just C/ya next winter.. :salute

No doubt this is a great game...or we would not be here.
Is it as fun as it used to be? No. Many complained back then, but looking back, Titanic Tuesday's were a blast! imagine....that had room for 600, and people were still trying to get it. And if you wanted to play for the regular game, you could do that as well.
I miss Missions.
I miss blitzing bases in only GV's.
I miss quite a few cats that are no longer here.
and yeah...I miss all the hundreds of people every time you fired up the game no matter what time of the day or night it was.
We all love this game...but we are fighting a war on attrition.... and we will lose this game one day.
1. Kids coming up have no though of WW2.
2. Kids rarely pay games on a pc
That is what's killing us.

Yeah you’re a fashionable Dicta Boelcke Rule № 1++ flowcharter. It’s the new black. You need to learn to fight in the vert brah. Think about it.
In the meantime, consider that you, and others who constantly pace the sidewalks holding "The End is Near" signs aloft while (whilst?) howling epithets into microphones, may have been among the many, many causes of the decline in numbers from AH's peak.
Where is the evidence supporting your assertion that players saying the game is in trouble has contributed to the game being in trouble? I can see none. What is your counterproposal? That everyone stands around with their hands on their hips, swaying slightly with a maniac grin on the face while muttering under their breath “There’s no place like home”?
I looked, at the Timezone the OP described. It’s at the tail-end of my playable Timezone. I know the players he’s referring to. Hunted them down. They squeal like babies when you shoot them down in a fair fight. But they’ll grind away 6 hours non-stop vulching and ganging like a horde of locusts without a moment’s consideration of anyone else’s gameplay.
Their gameplay is more important than the health of the game is how they act, and everyone not challenging that is supporting and agreeing with that premise. What is that American adage about a good man standing by?
Or don't. I'm certain that you consider yourself a prophet who is stoned in his own time, but will be revered by later generations. Take comfort in that warm, fuzzy thought.
What a fertile imagination some of you have about the delusions of those who say contentious things. :rofl
I take comfort in that warm, fuzzy thought that I joined the game when fighting it out with people who were better at ACM gave me something to work on and shooting your mouth off unfounded would get you a ride in the duelling arena right quick. That although the Charlie Sheen-clones were always around, they weren’t all that was around. That through hard work and self-directed learning I got to unravel what the masters were doing and happily paid the price of the thousand deaths to learn a high-level of ACM while there was the culture and possibility to do so. And of course that I got to witness the awesomeness that is Zack1234.
Ok. So what would you like me, Spikes, to do about it? What should Shuffler do about it? What about Arlo? I can't make the game fun for people or make any major changes. I can't do anything, so I'm not sure what me having my "head in the sand" has to do with the current state of the game.

Thank you for the first response in a long series of threads where someone actually doesn't want to make the bad sounds go away.
Perhaps stop taking the automatic position that criticism is negative and must be shut down immediately. That differing opinions are a thing that must be devalued instead of examined. List and complain about the things in the game that aren’t working and keeping new players from joining.
Criticise on 200 selfish gameplay and try to re-cultivate the natural self-balance it had about four-to-five years ago. Press HTC to act on the complains of the OP - raw data and points of action.
Make a bloody noise for new game content from HTC, new planes (would be highly likely to bring old players back to try), lobby for new persistent arenas and new gameplay possibilities. The flight model is good, the planeset is large. Possibilities are endless.
If you meet someone who can out-fly you ask if they can teach you something. If you’re clearly better than your opponent offer to teach them something. Go to the MPA and duel a bit, or fly in the TA to help others (or warm up there). Don’t be the second or third man in on a fight, stay out and be classy (some did that in the war you know (Marseille, Guynemer, Stigler...)). Try to not allow your gameplay to converge to a repetitive comfort zone. It's bad for everyone. Add balance to the presently dominant 'winning' cult. It isn't Per se a game issue but a cultural one.
Fight for your game because it is already lost to some of us and you might shortly also experience the process all the players on the European, Japanese and Australasian timezones have experienced. Many of us said it would spread out on both sides of the clock and no-one listened because it didn’t affect them. Now it’s squashing US primetime.
See we know, this is not speculation, we've experienced the death of the game. It is too late for non-US players I feel. You can ask Lusche if I’m too edgy for your tastes. No offence taken.

It's a shame you allow your prejudices to confine you. See I'd even teach you Arlo some of the wonders of ACM that'd make the little propellor on top of your school cap spin around in suprise and glee. I didn't mither on 200, didn't claim to be anyone's Daddy and only smack-talked the free-range rude. I championed the philosophy of dogfighting I learned here by experimenting, working, studying and leading by example. Aren't you curious to see what was once at the core of ACES HIGH before it's gone?
-
Until you are playing regularly why don't you stfu and quit trying to degrade the game by same old tired comments? In fact if I was HT I would ban players that quit from even posting on the forum. Sure seems strange to me that people that complain or quit the game seem to still hang around and put their worthless 2 cents in. :old:
Same old denialists same old self delusion from same ole lazy baby-boomers who don't want to face the fact that there is no analogous replacement to what Aces High once was, avoid their responsibility for their part in its downfall and self-medicate as their familiar comfort zone shrinks like a deflated balloon and their retirements are about to get even more dull than originally planned. Burn :)

Actually, there is no shame for I'm not prone to the prejudices you pretend to perceive. I've been a student of ACM since AW, so there's likely not much you could teach me. I don't tune 200, so there's not much chance you would ever have impressed me there, either. As much as you fancy yourself a philosopher of dog fighting and a fine example of such all you really are on the forum is a boor. I, like most here, know what AH is, at it's core and more. Have a nice day. looking forward to your next big dramatic departure from the forum. :D

I've been a student of ACM since AW, so there's likely (not?) much you could teach me.
Have you? That would be marvellous if more time == more skill yet I'm told you're an ubernoob who couldn't drive a greasy stick up a dog's arse. Still no duel?
I'm not prone to the prejudices you pretend to perceive.
That's remarkable because you present as nothing more than a walking prejudice.

Oooooh, what an unanticipated gambit on your part. Couldn't see that coming at all. Tactical genius. Of course you do.

If your 'philosophy' is that you know more about ACM due to nothing but AH then I suggest you activate a paid account and be everyone's bright, shining example in the MA. ;)

Being a person who designs/helps design events for the community to fly in, I never take criticism as negative. Any time anyone says anything about one of our designs I always take it into consideration, and decide on the best course of action based on the complaint, previous designs, historical concerns, etc. It is always fun though, when someone simply posts or says "this event sucks" and I have to spend the night deciphering and speculating why that person didn't enjoy it, but I'm digressing.
I think one big thing with the game is it isn't very "new player" intuitive. There's a few videos and the trainers site, but basically you just get put into an arena with no direction. Fortunately, some changes have been made recently (such as changes to mouse play and being put at a base close to action in the arena) to help with this. A game like World of Tanks for example puts you in a training battle and teaches you how to shoot, drive, aim, switch ammo types, etc. I'm not sure if AH could support something of that "guided tutorial" nature, but it would be helpful.
As far as new content, I've asked for plenty of planes, others have as well. My requests are mainly Special Events biased such as the D.520 or the Pe-2 to fill holes where we have to use substitute planes as well. I understand HTC are busy getting the old models up to snuff, and the reworks look great. I don't really know how else to ask for new content other than on the forum, and I don't think raising holy hell and making myself look like an bellybutton will get the Pe-2 added any faster.
I really don't have much time to fly in the MA so I can't help you there. When I do, it is before FSO to get a few sorties in or sometimes during the week for a little while. I remember the days of old when Ghosth (I think) would sit at the end of the runway in his D3A and help new players for hours, I think the trainers had 'shifts' to go into the TA and help out, I'm not sure if that's the case anymore...but not really my department.
I agree with you that the players can help out in their own way, but they/we can only do so much. I like to think I'm doing the most that I can being on the CM team.
I really want to get the "aceshigh" subreddit going, as I think it is free advertising on one of the largest website in the world, but it takes a lot to get something going like that.

I dont think anyone is trying to degrade the game, we comment because we care. We hate seeing the game slowly drop in numbers, game play suffer, and more and more people leave.
I have been playing this game and sending my $15 a month since Sept 2001. This is the only game I really play. It is deep, it has a ton of things to do and compete in against other real players. Today you dont see the same type of play, competition, or for lack of a better word, FIGHT.
In the old days HTC could stand on what they had. They still had good numbers of new players rolling in to offset the players leaving. Not anymore. Today those players that are "not the norm", that quit a game and move on to something new are the ones keeping this game alive. I wonder what the percentage of players in the game that have been here over 5 years? I think Hitech said 18 months to 2 years is the life of a player in a game. Those of us who have stuck it out thru the good times as well as the bad are the ones carrying the game.
The gaming industry has change, what gamers are looking for in a game has changed and yet Aces High has not. That is why we see the numbers slowly drop away. Changes need to be made to make it easier for new players to get going and ease the frustration level while trying to learn all there is to learn. Be it interactive training "missions", or even hand holding of new players by vets. Changes are needed.

I think I am with Shida on this one.
Too few are really interested in the fight anymore, more and more players appear to be focused on avoiding rather than promoting fights. This manifests itself in hit and run tactics for fighters or quick base take sneak attacks for ground based activity. If the flash mob attack does not work they disappear as instantly as they appeared and move to another base to try again.
Certainly, both are effective and it could be argued valid tactics. They are outcome based and they achieve the goal.
However, for people like me who like to engage in fighter combat, those tactics simply bore the crap out of me. I want to play the game but I log off bored. So I go to other games and slowly they get more and more of my time. This appears to have happened to the vast majority of the 'good' fighter pilots and what you are left with now is a cheap imitation of a combat game because people are in it for the 'win' whatever that means to them. They are not in it for the fight.
That is the shift and that IMO is what HTC needs to address. How do you encourage people to fight and enjoy it rather than look to sucker punch a distracted enemy? The worst part of that is that they then claim they all that and could whip your bellybutton any day...….yet ALWAYS refuse to front up to a duel. I feel Shida's frustration.
Thing is, we can never please everyone. Man I wish more would actually fight though.

Those were just general comments not directed at your personally.
I think one big thing with the game is it isn't very "new player" intuitive.
I agree, I (do / did) fly the TA a lot and since Ghost left I have never seen a trainer except FLS for two minutes sitting on a runway. Perhaps he saw me and logged :rofl
There's an unsupported assertion on these boards that Millenials (if we are going to do some sloppy painting with a big brush) have the attention span of a goldfish and need instant gratification. It seems like that is not the case if you work with them or read the research if you go in for that sort of thing. They seem to like more obtuse mid-term-rewarding sort of activities and state-of-the-art education / instant access to masses of data makes them good at this. This is a good match for AH with its well-balanced flight model. I think the payment model is problematic / old-fashioned and the gameplay all at once difficult to break into and unrewarding at the same time. There seems to be no shortage of interest in WW2 and combat games in general and it's not uncommon to have multiple platforms available. Judging by the demand for high end joysticks right now there is a healthy percentage of people interested in flight out there somewhere.
such as changes to mouse play
:)
A game like World of Tanks for example puts you in a training battle and teaches you how to shoot, drive, aim, switch ammo types, etc.
It would help lot to have similar things in AH. The AI in MPA was a healthy move but some AI training, persistent on-line activity areas, bombing ranges, aerial gunnery ranges, BFM courses what-have-you would be much better. Also controller Wizards and in game-help options ought to be standard.
As far as new content, I've asked for plenty of planes, others have as well.
Yup it has been heartbreaking to see no new aircraft in such a long time. I know it's a lot of work but feels like HiTech has forsaken us. Perhaps he saw opportunity to pull in ground-war crowds and make the game an all-encompassing wargame. Hence the GV editions, the 88-mm etc. Unfortunately it's now caught in the Kansei Engineering trap of in trying to please everyone you don't exactly please anyone and the remaining MA players are so resistant to change they complain and threaten to cancel their subscription if HTC so much as changes the colour of the flowers at their favourite spawn camp location. Look at the cash prize Tournament idea, those that would have never have flown that poo-pooed it PDQ, even though it would've been in a separate arena and would have indirectly helped AH had it have been successful. The big difference in culture there being inherently not a participation medal-based, equality of outcome sort of a thing. Might have even got sponsored by Redbull :rofl
Would love to but he is in a different timezone.

I've already answered your question. Perk more late war top killer planes. They are all press X and zoom away runners. By perking more late war planes. More players would end up in mid war planes thus making the fights closer and more actionable as players wouldn't simply be able to run away. If you look at the current perked fighters, you can see that a perk greatly reduced it's usage even though it's easily affordable. This is how you adjust the air combat so that it's not as slow having to chase late war runners every day. I think ENY and perk planes need a big adjustment.

Sorry to see ya go.
Every era had planes that were better at some things than others- speed included. Choose your plane and exploit its talents. Making people fight your fight is not realistic, though that is one goal of every engagement. I have yet to be shot down by someone that didn’t get close enough to do it, even those pesky field/ship gunners/dwirbles.
Perfect game, nah, but there really is no competition to what is offered here imo. Warbirds just announced a new version with updated graphics et.al. Threat to AH? Doubtful, that leadership team has never delivered.

well said.

Unfortunately that will not solve the problem...
You have too many players with thousands of perks they have accumulated over years and a plethora of them to spend at will. These are often the perk riders that frustrate others more often than not. Even if you zeroed out all players perks to start from scratch they will eventually build them again so its only a matter of time.

So? change sides and shoot their ass!
It feels great!

Luft is right
The misrable arrogant one who rarely play are the ones who drive new and existing people away.
They are the ones in this thread complaining :old:
Shida is not arrogant but is angry because they stopped selling fizzle sticks and Imps in the UK

I would agree. Even if it only would be 2 perks for a pony or something would impact the game for the better. But I think many of us would hate the Idea...

Hell yeah. For one thing, the ENY range is too small. Should be 60 or even more. For instance, The Spit I and F4F-4 are both 40 ENY. They are equal in ENY but to paraphrase Animal Farm, some planes are more equal than others. Making the range bigger would also generate more interest in flying the lesser rides because of a larger perk return. It is less advantageous to fly a 110G vs a F4U-1A at the current ENY values of 15 vs 12 than say, an adjusted 29 vs 12 on a 60 ENY scale.
That doesn't even get into stuff like adjusting values to reflect a plane's true in game effectiveness. The Yak-3 is 18 ENY, while the Seafire is 15 ENY. :headscratch:

The one reason I will never leave AH is because this is my escape world.
What Hi Tech Creations has created is like the VW Beetle.
The basic shape of the car never changed over 50 years but it was continually improved and refined.
Sometimes I come into the arena and, depending on the map, go to a field far away from everyone else. I take off and fly to the highest snow covered mountain and bail out. Then I just leave the 55" TV on for 30 minutes while watching the spectacular sunsets. We didn't have anything like this 15 - 20 years ago! The game is better now it ever has been.

I too have all but quit AH, still have my sub but have not played in months! Golden days are gone.

No ones interested :old:

... I've trained, sometimes for months on end and at the cost of hours per week for years. Some are even in this thread. And I was not motivated by recognition as has been suggested. ...
