Thank you to Lyric1 for finding me the info for this scheme.
This A-20 was part of the 47th Bomb Group's 84th Bomb Squadron while based in North Africa in 1943. It had a field-applied sand scheme applied over its standard olive drab paint.
After transferring to Morocco from the USA in late 1942 the 47th Bomb group operated entirely in the Mediterranean theatre for the rest of the war. In Africa the 47th flew mostly low level sorties against German and Italian forces in Algeria and Tunisia. They were awarded a Distinguished Unit Citation for their part in stopping the Axis advance from the Kasserine Pass on February 22nd. Low level sorties had proven too costly against the accurate German flak so during May the group switched to mostly medium level attacks using the level bomb sight. The 47th participated in the Allied campaigns in Sicily and Italy flying the A-20 until early 1945 when they began to receive the A-26.
