Title: Film viewer "use recorded views" broken, makes film viewer useless for youtube
Post by: Brooke on March 11, 2019, 01:04:12 AM
"Use recorded views" in film viewer doesn't work.  Instead of snap views, you get weird head translations like the following.  All of these should just be the same as pressing a view key (like "look left" or "look rear and up", etc.):
https://youtu.be/9BZmvnq_wFo?t=136

"Use recorded views" works OK in film recorded from earlier release of Aces High, same version of Film Viewer, so could be a bug caused by a new version of AH and not in Film Viewer, for all I know.

I'm using Film Viewer v3.04 path 4 and Aces High v3.04 patch 9.

Damage effects not showing correctly like this bomber showing up without half a wing:

Clouds are being drawn over the top of smoke trails from planes.

AH Man, yeah looks bad. They fixed it for TIR and VR users though, which is GREAT!  :x No more needing OBS or Shadowplay to record the "ONE EYE" mirror on Desktop. Eh, they will get it soon I hope! Sorry about your bombers on Sat. :devil Man what a Scenario, THANK YOU :rock

Ya mines doing the same thing. Now and then I get a complete spin around like in "Poltergeist" but it goes round and round a dozen times or so.

Only time for me(just in films of last week or so) the only time I saw it was when combining my "LOOK BACK" button and recorder still tracked my recorded view with VR. As long as I wasnt using a hat switch/ view key the recording looked fine. Wonder if maybe an"F3" mode bug? On relooking, even when I use my view button and VR it doesnt look all that unnatural, like this vid. Even tested with TIR and its FAST curves and was still smooth. Hope they can fix it for you, I know what its like to not have a usable FVer :uhoh

OK...this was weird. With the same film I was using for last comments....while in playback, if I changed to "External" or "Chase" then turned off recorded view(un marked the box) view was stuffed into the rees and NO PLANE. Couldnt get back to "Default view". Had to stop playback and restart. Must be the fix for VR and TIR in game, being captured by AHFV?

Will someone post a ahf file with the issue?

Heres one messed up, even the terrain is messed up as well as the views. I used "snap views" on my hat switch.

Fugitive already added a file, but here is mine also, if it'll help.  Just an offline test I did of the new VR headtracking for film views.  First, kudos on getting the VR/TIR views to track in the fllms.  That's a milestone.

Regarding my test, I didn't see any deal-killers in my attached film, but things I did notice (not sure if they are intentionally coded this way now, or it's a WiP):

** VR headtracking views worked perfectly once I spawned onto the runway.  While selecting planes and in the tower; the views glitched.

** VR headtracking views only worked when Internal View and Use Recorded Views were ticked on.

** Using External Views did not portray the VR headtracking; views were static, even with Use Recorded Views on.

** Using arrow keys and scrollbar keys to reposition/move to an external POV (e.g., for camera shots) did not work for me.

FWIW,

Use these.

They show the bugs clearly and quickly in three 1-minute films.

The "use recorded views" bug.  Enable "use recorded views" and see what happens.

The "smoke behind the clouds" bug -- see how it looks in external view.

The "missing wing" bug.  See in external view.

I'm missing something. What and  when does this do something strange?
It also may be if you turn on recorded views but do not have internal checked?

Does it do it in normal speed, slow motion or when playing at faster speeds?

If you record your flight upon normal speed playback, while Use Recorded View is checked off your “views” are not the actual movement during the fight. Its constant erratic movement of the view along with extreme to the side view where I was 10 feet from the canopy. It appear to be the issue only when the user uses puts input in the vie while recording. If the view is simply forward with no input and you play back that part all kosher. You get to the part of the video where fight starts and user is trying to follow the opponent all hell breaks loose. I can post a video in the afternoon if you wish

Believe I found it. If you play the film, then rewind and play again, does it show correctly the 2nd time?

Not for me sir I tried reviewing a fight last night and rewind did not do anything except make vox compress to where the chat would go at warp speed all the way from begini g iregardless of how far forward you went or backwards. In other words it would play the whole conversation from the begining even tho you are watching the last 5 min of the film

Big issue for me was playing film...Internal...Snap view....Recorded Views...and Icons being only checked options, When you try to get an external view shot or Chase view it can look pretty bad with Recorded views checked. Today however, I was able to go back to "Internal" with no issues, unlike yesterday :uhoh

I'll try the rewind thing when I can, but to answer the above question:

You start the program, load the file, press "play", and then enable "use recorded views".  You will be in internal view.

Now, instead of the view snapping around to the normal view directions (like left, right, back and left, etc., as they should), the point of view twirls around, exits the plane, and does other weird motions.

No, it still is weird, showing rotating, translating points of view instead of snapping to "left", "right", "back and left", etc.

Just to be clear, here is what it should look like (normal snap views):

What it does look like (weird moves in point of view):

Can not think of a way to make that work in all situations.

Fix your Gamma setting.  :D

(P.S. I think you can adjust time in film viewer.)

Shouldn't the film viewer know the (ingame) time of day the recording took place?  Seems like that should be standard.

Checking my FV .... apparently I was wrong about being able to set time.

I've just noticed some things are not accurate in the film-viewer.  For example, I tried landing a P-38 and smacked the props on the runway.  It killed both engines of course.  When I watched the film it showed both engines were running after I landed/crashed.   :bolt:

AH films aren’t the best choice for making YouTube videos because that’s not really what they’re designed for. Some guages don’t move in ah films and planes move choppy like etc. and that’s fine because that keeps the ah film recording less processor taxing and economical memory wise.
