Last week I received news from Colmbo's wife that he passed around Christmas time. He had been a fireman and was battling throat cancer.

I'll miss his interaction with this board.  Also if anyone was friends with him in other aviation communicates his wife asked me to please let other people know.

High Flight was composed by Pilot Officer John Gillespie Magee,  Jr.  Killed in 1941 in England at age 19.

The fire department that he worked for actually saved a kids life during a summer camp I was chaperoning at just 2 weeks ago. Such a small world.

He was a good guy.  The dignity he showed was awe inspiring. 

I put his name and rank on a couple of my Mustangs that didn’t have a clear view of the ground crew.    Thus he will fly with us every time one of those P-51s take to the virtual skies.   I told him about it before he passed.   He was appreciative.     :salute
