I'm running 16, as well. Which reminds me, I need to max out my ram this summer.

I went from 4 to 16.(plus a new CPU and MB...ya whole new system :rock...)..what a difference in the modeling...then I could barely render a normal map with 1 million verts...would crash anything over that...now I am sculpting with 8 million plus verts and creating the normal maps no problem...with that many verts I can do pores in skin if I wanted to.... :rock
