I run Aces High offline, because I am editing sounds and so I pop in to listen to the drones, and then log out to edit sounds. With the next update there should be a live update feature, so that anyone developing FMOD banks can edit and run the game and tab out to go back to the mixer. For some time I have been hearing the "Lost Hardware" sound that Windows plays when a USB device goes offline, and I have always thought it was a random device (I've looked, but have not discovered what it was). Well, today I closed AH and my desktop was missing. I have moved my Desktop Library to another internal drive, because it is quite large, or it was until today. So, I rebooted and the hard drive was available again, so I moved the desktop back to its default location and tidied up by moving everything that is not a shortcut to another drive.
So, I go back to editing and there's the sound again, but when I close AH the hard drive is "discovered" and everything is back to normal.
So, any guesses?

It didn't surprise me that the most obvious culprits to any issues weren't present. :salute
This is just a wild guess but:
Does your hard drive show as removable under 'Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media'?
Or does the other drive allow Windows to shut it down for saving power?

I have the removal policy set to "Better Performance" and power settings to "Always On."
In addition I have the write-caching policy set to Enable write caching.
There's more than enough power available, so I don't see that being the issue either.

I'm not saying you're having a power issue, I suspect that it may be Windows trying to save power despite more than adequate resources.

Yeah, I think I've done all I can do for now. When I do my annual fan replacements I will update the drive to a new Ironwolf unit.
