I am sure the flames will follow but as I replied in another thread, food for thought...
Unlike the in real world (I know this is a game), you can aim and fire the main gun from the turret top, cupola. I think the Main gun should be limited so that it can be "fired" through gun sight only, you could still traverse and elevate the main gun from the cupola (as per giving the gunner directions). in addition, the cupola view/machine gunner view still would be used for spotting and/or driving (again as in giving commands to the driver). Do that, and tanking gets much more realistic and most of that dot painted on the screen shooting on the fly/over hills goes away and it becomes more like a sim and less like a 3rd person shooter. Furthermore it is extremely hard to see a plane though that (main gun) sight, unless you know right where to look. Not to mention difficult to track and much more, to shoot it. That should make "main gunning" planes more similar to the real life application, more luck than "skill"
Most of those "incredible" shots (in game) come for being able to see more and therefore be able to lead and shoot (red dot) better than what would have been available in a WWII tank
-
Come to think of. It, crewing a tank with two (as done in bombers) could be interesting in this situation.
-
True but, would require team work.
-
In WWII they used tanks to shell long range with everyone outside of the tank except the loader. Sort of negates your whole idea.

What your asking is for HTC to change the gv model back to the way it was before it was changed to the more popular FPS mode we have.
Second. I have “main gunned” planes several times, never from the commanders hatch always from the gunner position. Why? Because it’s easier.
Third. With regards to realism, attempting to kill tanks with airplanes in WWII was a complete failure and waste of pilots and planes. About 10 attack planes were lost for every tank destroyed.
Just a factoid, but the americans had better luck killing tanks with B17s than they did with attack aircraft.
-
Attack aircraft killed important supply columns, bridges, and other targets, and were much less effective against armored targets, but the rediculus overclaiming ( noone understood that at the time) warranted the losses fo fighterbombers for allies as well as the axis.
A hit tank is not a dead tank unless it burns, something both sides used to do on crippled vehicles so they could not be repaired.

Weren't we able to have one drive while the another gun ages ago? I could've sworn this was a thing before they changed how GV's worked. :headscratch:

Yes.
-
Yes.
I was in GVs almost nill for the first 5 or 10 years I played. I did not know this.
-
I always main gun from the turret view. The commander's view is not accurate enough.

Odd........... if it was not for air power over the battlefield, why did German armor only try to move at night? And when they was forces to move in day light hours....
You have battles like the Falaise Pocket.

Only seven german tanks were lost to aircraft attacks in Falaise. How many allied attack aircraft were lost? We're talking about tanks vs airplanes so trucks and toejam are irrelevant. You need a direct hit with a rocket to kill a tank, pretty much the same with bombs. According to RAF trials, under good conditions less than 5% of the rockets fired hit the target.

Air power was successful in helping clear the way in both Operation Goodwood and Operation Cobra.

The oddest tank kill of Operation Goodwood. King Tiger of the 503rd heavy tank battalion knocked out of action after being rammed by a British Sherman tank. The British crew was then able to force the King Tiger crew to surrender.

Goodwood the RAF claimed 135 tanks knocked out. Subsequent investigation determined that only ten tanks had been damaged. In what world is a 1/10 KD ratio regarded as success?

So really then if you think about it AH bomb****ing is completely unrealistic so maybe the main gunning of airplanes by tanks in game is perfectly reasonable?

The game is more 'deadly' to everyone than RealLife(tm) :)
