So, is that like in the basement of Pyro's house? If so that's cool too. No need to have an office if you don't need it. I worked at my bosses house at Combatsim.com for several years. Best job I ever had.

I built the room the room off my house this  summer. (I found out I hate laying tile) Needed it's own air condition plus security features.

Wondered how you were handling heat in your tiny space with that stack of devices. One place I worked we sent something like that to newly acquired companies to put them on our network asap and labeled it network in a box. Sometimes they placed it in a closet and cooked the rack..... :O

Sweet. Active UPS and then generator :aok  - will definitely help with power bumps and safely shutdown the equipment if needed. Definitely a proper setup.

Do you allow Pyro to bring his pupper to work?

It is those pesky brownouts that mess up so many electronics. I'd say that is covered very well.

But the game IS dying. Itys a slow lingering death, but it is dying. Last year in June a player making one run in a buff and dying ranked for the month at 1023. Last month the same players doing one run in a buff and dying ranked at 847. That means there are less than 176 players tied for that "last" place in the category, which means we have lost on an average about 14 players a month.

I dont know what the number of players needed to keep the game viable but if it is 700, we may hit that next year. 500 maybe 2 years unless something is done.

I certainly hope something is done, or at least "tried".

I love that Hitech has added the server setup that he has, but is it new, or did he just move it to his closet at home so he can close his office to cut over head?

HTC has been upgrading hardware over the last month

Because of the upgrade this week
there will be a few brief outages (less then 20 mins)
this week.

The above is how you know some one has gone over the edge. In a thread posted to show how HTC is continuing AH development , a member posts false disparaging points of view that have already been stated (Some in the same thread) just to poo poo on HTC.

I often ask myself is there any advantage in letting these people remain on the BBS. The cutoff comes when they are no longer posting anything positive, and are only post when they want to vent a grievance.

I'm glad that all the servers are together now, unlike years back the game servers and website/bbs/ftp servers were in 2 different locations....(if I'm remembering right)

Remember one of the website/ftp servers went down and Skuzzy had to make the trip to install new HDs and basically had to build a lot of the websites (Home page, FTP, Trainers website, AH Events, etc) all from ground up....

Curious as to what temperatures HTC keeps the server room?

I've designed HVAC systems for both NC DOT and FL DOT, where they were using 34 to 40, 40" monitors and all the computers and servers were in the room behind the monitors (monitors were set into a curved wall with the front sealed off, to keep most of the heat in the server room)

These buildings were where they watched and operated the cameras all over the interstates, highways, etc...

Had to guarantee a constant 68 degrees year round...

Curious as to what temperatures HTC keeps the server room?

I have multiple probe temp logging been debating what temp I will keep it at and where. Been monitory out put temp behind servers as well as input in front.
Input side runs about 10 deg cooler. But output side feeds the conditioner. Yesterday I bumped the temp up from 65 setting to 70 in the afternoon.

These temps are about 3 inches behind the computer bank.

The current temperature for Port 1 is 76.0 degrees Fahrenheit.
 Daily Minimum: 69.9
 Daily Maximum: 76.7
 Daily Average: 71.8

Hmm.....

I'm under the impression that you had a load calculation ran for the BTU output of the hardware, lights, space size....

Are you using a manual or programmable thermostat?

Looking at the data logs, you might want to consider a programmable thermostat to where you can drop the temperature setting something like 1/2 hour to an 1 hour before the temperature starts climb to cope with that 75/76 temp range

Just thinking out loud

Nice setup with the Temp probes & data logging  :aok

The temp doesn't vary. The min max does not change more the 1 deg , you see a margin simply because I changed it's base setting up 5 degs input temp to the CPU's is 65 deg with an output temp of 75.

Pardon me I dont know if this is a joke or not, but did you really move HTC to your home? If so, I have 2 questions.
1. how did you get the bandwith needed to run the game connected to a residence? I ask because here in FL the cable companies dont like to do that... They say the infrastructure is not able to accept it.
2. Do you have Hillary Clinton's emails? (her server was supposed to be in a closet)

Net hook up is identical as it was as the last 7 years. And AH does not require much band width.

Here is the main arena server.

It might be noted that it is not only to keep it cool but to keep the humidity down. In cases such as electronics you can get too cold and cause condensation on parts being cooled.

A cooling unit too large may not run enough to remove humidity. This will call so much moisture as to create mold and mildew. One too small can make it too dry and not cool well during times where the electronics are producing the most heat.

We have a laser, Trumpf 5040, that is 6KW. The electronics in the boxes are kept at 86 F (30C). Each control box has it's own a/c. Those temps are suggested by Trumpf.

It is slightly different than a server but has pretty much the same cooling requirements.

True and your ideal humidity to shoot for is 52 %.... Anywhere from 50 to 52% is great

Once one crosses the 59+% range regarding humidity, mold growth will start and intensify the higher the humidity climbs

True and your ideal humidity to shoot for is 52 %.... Anywhere from 50 to 52% is great

Once one crosses the 59+% range regarding humidity, mold growth will start and intensify the higher the humidity climbs

I'm also a certified IAQ specialist with certifications in LEED and Green Building

Am also 50 state certified Energy Auditor for Residential/commercial/industrial/Goverment and Hospitals

Well, I was before I retired (read as Doctors forced me into retirement/disabled)

Net hook up is identical as it was as the last 7 years. And AH does not require much band width.

Here is the main arena server.
Green is out from HTC blue is In bound.

It must be nice to be able to code your communications bandwidth to be so low. I have to work from home sometimes to fix water/waste water control systems and even using VNC to keep bandwith to a minimum by remoting into PCs on the company network, we have slow and even unusable time periods.

I think that this looks really neat!   :aok

Wow. I've had fibre since early 2013. We have 1Gbps down 500Mbps up, no data limits. We no longer use analog anything (phone TV etc). All our content is digital (even live TV). On a typical month we'll use around 1.8Tb of data, during holiday periods that'll go up to 2.5Tb of data.

2. Do you have Hillary Clinton's emails? (her server was supposed to be in a closet)
Todd

Didn't you read the news a few weeks ago where they found her tech installed a drop box app on her server to send a copy of everything to carterheavyindustries@gmail.com. Google keeps everything that passes through it's networks. And possibly Platte River Networks has them also.

In the letter, Horowitz and Intelligence Community Inspector General Michael Atkinson write that the Carter Heavy Industries email account was created by Platte River Networks employee Paul Combetta, who managed Clinton’s email server. Combetta allegedly created the Carter Heavy Industries email on Aug. 20, 2012, to serve as a “dummy email.” Combetta then used the email in order to transfer messages archived on Clinton’s second private server to the Platte River Networks server in early 2014.

We had a case of "whats this button do?" at work yesterday, some sparkie triggered the gas fire suppression system which also pops all the electrical circuits to protect our servers. For some unknown reason it locked the power out for several hours! Had a nice afternoon off. Apparently the gas refill is not cheap.

You could get one of those fancy inline rack style cooling system. Slides right in the server rack. Just had one installed at the local hospitals IT room. A couple of them took care of their entire room.

But I’d imagine In your case you are fine unless the primary unit went down. Look into Ductless mini splits. Insane humidity and temperature control. I recommend Mitsubishi or LG. Really really cost effective on your energy bill not so much on upfront cost sadly.

That's what I'm using a Mitsubishi 15000 BTU mini split. We used the same type in our previous server room.

Sorry for the bump, but this came up in conversation during our group's bombing run last night. I had to search here this morning for the (old) news..

I was away during all of this (I'm just catching up on the doings over the past three years I was abroad), so my first reaction was one of disappointment, a little sadness, but it's also understandable given how things have gone.

Man, I really hope this game doesn't fizzle out, but as I said to my squaddie, it seems us older farts (50's & up now) are a dying breed. Approaching 50 myself, and I remember subscribing when I was in my very early 30's.

I just kind of sigh and hope for the best. Other games aren't as free-form and just don't cut it for me, really.  :cry

Well, Egg, if it makes you feel better, I subscribed last month. I'm actually a high school student (Air Force cadet), and after furballing offline with AIs on and off for several months I finally subscribed. So, there's at least one fresh pilot, if that makes ya feel any better!  :airplane:

I built the room the room off my house this  summer. (I found out I hate laying tile) Needed it's own air condition plus security features.
Our previous server room was the same length but twice as wide.

HiTech

Install a mini-split A/C unit

And nobody likes installing tile. Nobody
