Title: SAAMIAM
Post by: The Fugitive on October 05, 2019, 11:21:56 AM
A few options and thoughts for you.

I know you like the touch controllers for the "realism" but they are just not accurate enough to be very competitive, the tech just isnt there yet. Sure it fine in an arcade type/style game but for any type of precision forget it. As a substitute you could try this....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SbQJiyj1U8

Its a "commercial" for a company that makes extensions for the warthog joystick. Place the stick on a stand between your feet and you'll have the same "throw" the really joystick has in the plane as well as all those buttons to use in the game. I dont know what HOTAS you have but a search may fine similar extension available for other sticks as well.

Rudders, if your using the touch controllers how are you using rudders? The controllers have limited number of buttons to use. If you are NOT using rudders in AH you are hobbling yourself even more. In the time it takes you to roll right, pull lead and fire, I can do the same with a tap on the rudder pedal to get my nose shifted over. Rudders are very important in this game.

Films, you said you were recording them but couldnt find them afterward. AH films are not playable with any other software but the game software.

In the red is the default location of the game. If you did not load it in the default location, say through "Steam" the easiest thing would be to use the search bar to find the "ahfilm.exe" file, right click on it and click on "open file location". Once that screen opens right click on the ahfilm.exe and click on "create a shortcut" and move that shortcut to the desktop. As you can see in the picture, that file location also has the "films" folder where all the films created are stored. Once you start the film viewer you should be able to open any film stored in that folder. Remember that when you start getting over 50 films in that folder you'll start getting a small lag from the time you hit the "record" button in the game until it starts filming, you may even get a screen freeze. I move the films I make out each week some are saved, others watched and deleted. I film every fight and still learn from them today even after 20 years of this.

Posting films. When you were learning to drive a hundred years ago, they didnt just give you a car and tell you to go out and practice/figure it out. Working with a trainer is the best way to get pointers, just like going to driving school/drivers ED. The second best thing is films. The AH film viewer has a number of ways to view the films, for outside (like the F3 mode in bombers), form the other players view, trailing views, views with a trail added to your plane and the other see who went where and how. You can see rudder use rolls, and all types of turns by all planes in the film. For a new player using and figuring out what your looking at can be a bit daunting. Post them here, or in the training threads (upload them to a cloud storage space and post the link ) and let these "sharks" go over them and point out the plus and minuses.  You may be flying what you think is a good way (as you did in those other games) and may not realise that in this game there is a better way to do it. If you cant have a training flying in your plane with you having these guys pick apart your fights is the next best thing.

Be open to criticism and help. You seem to really like this game and players like you a hard to come by. These guys are mostly willing to spend the time to help you get by the frustration we have all and still do to some extent have in this game. If it was easy nobody would play it. This goes for ALL new players. If your willing to listen and take the criticism you'll find yourself picking up the game much quicker and ease some of that frustration.

The learning curve for new players is nearly vertical.  Tantrums don’t improve the angle of the curve.

Dead horse.   He expressed some frustration akin to what all of us have likely experienced a time or two.   No biggie.   He apologized so we should probably just move along.

Doesn't excuse what he did though.

He did show up for the scenario. He flew the first mission. Enemy stayed away from us. He crashed somewhere then said he had to go plug a tire and left. He was there for a short while but did not get to experience any fighting.

in defense of saamiam it's that we sell scenarios as lots of fun, and they are, but different than in the ma.  In scenarios we value more the mission than kills, as an example we flew the first mission escorting bombers, I saw 2 groups of fighters 3 and 5 or 6  within range. but our mission was to protect the bombers, so we didnt pursue, this was the mission saamiam was in.  we flew for 1 hour got our bombers in and out with no loss I think.  a few of our fighters were sent to engage both groups but it was mostly to keep them away.

that's a big difference than in the ma.  I have flown in many fso and scenarios where I didnt fire a single shot and I have flown where we flew for 1 hour or more and we all got killed within a couple of minutes.  you never know but it's all about the mission.

anyway it was his first scenario so give him a break.  hope he joins again.

Wow!! I didn't know I had become so famous!😎.. Got my own thread and everything... Impressive for a noob.. Please, allow me to respond accordingly. Please be aware that I have read every reply and shall do my best to address them all.
Lets start with the tantrum.
Inappropriate, unprofessional and out of character for who I am or was. I did apologize to HT and my only defense is that it came from a few unanswered support requests, a lack of understanding of all the features in the game. Mostly it came after literally 4 straight hours of take off in a mossy, climb out and fly 15 to 20 min to target only to get the lockout glitch the instant I would engage and die. Then repeat. The final straw was after flying the goon at treetop and up a river across 2 1/2 quadrants then controller lockout exactly when I pull up to drop troops and crash, blowing the chance to capture and wasting the squads past 45 min effort. Its a programming glitch between that algorythum and the sensors tracking touch controllers when engaging. This happened all day and continues until now. I fly sticked planes without issue but the Mossy and B25H happens to be my favorites. its only in yoked planes.
Then there is the brain damage from Sarin Gas exposure in Iraq and Serbrencia that scrambled my central nervous system in the brain which triggers terets  10x.

Ok, moving on. Touch Controllers.... Love em.. I've put my Hotas in the closet and will only fly touch controller  now. You say its not precise.. show me a wwii aircraft that had a flight systems management setup like the HOTAS.. What you are using was designed to be used with modern jet fighters.i get a realistic representation of actual conditions including the typical slop or play that you would find in those aircraft.
Rudders.. I find that my pedals dont fit in the ergonomics of how I play now so i boxed them up. I simply use the hat switch on my left touch controller for yaw. The other hat switch i use for gear and flaps.
I find that using the hat switch for eyes on back of head view is something akin to arcade play and a mild form of cheating the simulation out of realism. I never even used that when i used my hotas and i dont use it now. I mean seriously, have you ever seen a pilot rotate his head completely level and a full 180 and 360? To me that is a novice control feature for new and lesser skilled pilots.
Also, using the Hotas means you are sitting at a desk with the jet fighter stick mounted or on the desk  or similar.
By using the Touch controllers I am able to play AH while chilling in a Lazy Boy recliner, feet kicked up, hands resting comfortably and grabbing the in plane stick in a natural position. You cant even come close to such immersion with the hotas. I Salute HT for such amazing attention to detail when he set up the planes for touch controlling. It must have been a nightmare to match the real world planes I often forget Im holding a touch controller and feel as though im holding the real in plane stick. As the learning curve begins to flatten, i perform better..

"SAAMIAM seems to really like this game and plays well with others"
Let me say, I love this game. It is exactly what I dreamed about back in the eighties. It is nothing short of incredible, it is the only game i play now and after near 20 years playing Ace Combat and 10 yrs on IL2, Aces High has captured all of my attention. I literally play 4 to 6 hours a day and have no intention of stopping. In fact, just the other day I got the "flippz" achievement after shooting down flippz... lol that guy is top 3 in the game.
Hard for a new player, vertical learning curve..
The game itself is challenging yes, but not overwhelmingly so. Especially for someone who has played flight combat sims, sim/arcade and arcade for 20 yrs.
Imagine getting a new game, firing it up and everything you face is godmode. Unrelenting, brutal, continuous godmode. That is the X-Factor that crushes the enthusiasm of every single new player. From above, from below, from a weaker plane, it doesnt matter, when you enter the MA as a noob, you are going to die. Repeatedly and without mercy or remorse. Its nobody's fault, its just the product of the entire community of players that are the true lovers of the game, the best in the game. I get mad as heck, frustrated beyond belief and depressed everyday as I waste all my ammo trying to down a guy just to have him spin around and  down me with a single trigger pull. BUT....BUT... Im starting to become deadlier every day and wont be long before Im right up there with you killers..

Scenario...
I was very appreciative of Brooks for the invite and He is right, I did fly the first mission befor having to go rescue my 18yr daughter and plug her tire BUT... i did crash on my landing at mission end.. I really wanted to play more but the timing just didn't work out for me.  Hopefully I can take part in more events soon.

Some things that really chap my A....
The guy that engages you then runs away to his field or cv hoping to drag you in to the anti air instead of duking it out with you... or the jousting pilot who enjoys ramming you in a head on. I find those tactics to be no skill weak-sauce. Or even the guy from your own country that sits up at 15k and watches you get triple teamed instead of helping you because he doesnt want to give up his ALT..  But hey, its a part of the game and nobody is forcing me to chase him back to mommy or even to engage at all.. right? I just can't help myself, I am aggressive Marine and if I see enemy, I break to engage be it 1v1 or 1 v 10.. and will always always break to give assistance to a fellow rook in a pickle regardless of the risks to self.

I will close with this.... I love this game, im hooked and will be here for the next 10 yrs.. If you use VR, put away the HOTAS, grab a lazyboy recliner and your touch controllers  and fly right.. If you dont have VR yet, get it today and you will never play flat screen again.
I am filterless, brash, honest to a fault.  I am also an empath a Marine and one who will cover a grenade for any and all other humans..

We get it. Ya like the touch controllers because you can totally kick on the recliner and still fly AH. Good for you! One of my squaddies flies with a mouse and he's one of the better pilots you'll come across. If those things work for you(but I guess they kinda don't lol) that's great, but they do kinda suck for this. THAT IS WHY YOU GET THE STICK MOVING TOO FAST WARNING. No other reason. They are just inacurate and inconsistent (I have them and have tried them - - they're a no for AH). This game REQUIRES accurate and consistent input from the controllers and with VERY GOOD REASON. That's been explained to you in another thread but as the Captain said in Cool Hand Luke--some men you just can't reach.

Look, if the touch controllers are your jam that's great. Enjoy! Glad to have you. But don't come with this whine there's something wrong with the game because your controllers aren't up to the task because they frankly just aren't!

Yeah I noticed everytime id replace an old logitech 3d or t16000 that had been going bad with a brand new one that my hit rate would.improve significantly. A decent joystick is required to have any real success in this game for the vast majority of cartoon pilots

We can settle this easily Cool Hand... me and you in Match Play arena.. best of 5. You can even pick the plane..  its a glitch in the yoke planes and tracking ya genius.. but oh yeah,, I forgot, you are an expert with your 5 minutes of using touch controllers.. in fact Ill face any of you confident killers in match play arena for a best of 5.. I said "Match Play" not dueling arena.. I can handle enemy AI chasing after me while I engage you.. can you?
Spare me any excuse why you wont face me in a match arena but if you want to talk smack to me then be prepared to back it up with action. Just don't complain if I happen to beat you in my lazyboy..

And for the record.. Touch Controllers... + Aces High III... a full GO

You have 2 bananas add 2 glasses of milk, you don't have 4, perhaps banana milk.

You can even have 2 glasses of milk in a container, add 2 more milk glasses and it will never equal 4 glasses of milk.

My last op as STA. We were on ship as part of 26MEU. Although "no US Troops were on the ground" officially, my spotter and I were dropped in to infiltrate, close with and if situation permitted, execute a well placed shot to the leadership of the scumbag elite unit carrying out the "ethnic cleansing".  Lots of bad guys, in the area and we spent a couple days hiding out in an abandoned school that had been used to mass execute a couple hundred men and boys with Sarin Gas a day or two earlier. We didnt know it at the time and the chemical residue was absorbed into our system..
Besides the short circuiting brain, I no longer have an esophagus and my digestive track is a never healing open wound.. lemon juice on an open cut has nothing on what stomach acid on an open wound feels like..
Anyway, sorry for the rambling. Srebrencia was beautiful country but has left me with bad dreams and failing health.

Come on Drano....LOL do it.... Accept his challenge in the match play arena....

I don't understand why he says not the dueling arena, because it doesn't exist anymore, Match Play Arena replaced it and the dueling arena is built into the MPA....so that needs more explanation of what he is actually wanting to do....looking & reading his posts, makes me wonder if he isn't getting AH3 & WarOnline:Pacific mixed up or mixed together somewhat (2 completely different games)

Also puller take him up on his challenge....

I don't have VR, my disabilities with my neck, spine, right shoulder and arm, limit me....but I will gladly take you up on your challenge this coming Thursday evening after I get done with my doctors appointments this week... Saam

Interesting hypothesis there FLS. Might be a reach but an interesting coincidence

I skipped that sheitshow tour (https://www.thestar.com/news/insight/2013/09/14/medak_pocket_canadas_forgotten_battle.html) on purpose as I knew it wasn't going to pretty. Since when were prairie dogs taken off the pest list.

Last I saw... hogs and dogs were still open season.

Oh, there's plenty a folk have that mindset, even when nary a one owns a horse or cow and the lil' prairie dogs are on land that doesn't feature a hoof mark one. The owls, however, that seasonally return to make nest among the lil' dogs are on quite a different list. The endangered one. It's a direct relationship that the owls require.

So, what does one who views them as a pest and envisions the payoff investment do? Why wait until the owls migrate for the season and have at it. ;)

I’m well aware of the Srebrenica Massacre, I was just confused by the spelling. Also confusing to me is how you were contaminated with a relatively non persistent agent, and how such a hair brained idea as putting a two man team into Bosnia in July of 1995 ever came to fruition. If sarin was deployed surely it must’ve been discussed at the trials.

Iraq... would that have been in 1991 or after 2003?   AND Srebrenica?

Saam

Hmm...... Been 3 days since he called Drano and puller out for a challenge and 2 since I posted I would gladly accept his challenge....

What kind of scout/sniper spends the night in a school house in town that was very recently used by the enemy to execute people when there are "Lots of bad guys in the area"? Actually that last part is true, there were lots of bad guys in the area.

One more tiny detail. I did a quick google search "26th MEU Bosnia 1995". Turns out 26th MEU spent July 1995 in the USA.

Is someone going to break-out the Voss board game graphic?
Well he did say something in another thread about kickstarting a $100,000 prize for some kind of Aces High tournament. Claims to be a noob yet calls the Match Play Arena the Dueling Arena. If one were to craft a persona for deceptive purposes it would be a good idea to pretend to be somebody that people will be eager to help but hesitant to question or voice suspicion. Say for example a disabled person, or a veteran, or even better a disabled veteran. That's like conman social engineering 101.

It’s curious that he comments on his “covert” activities on an open public forum.  The few special ops types I’ve been privileged to known don’t speak of any operation, anywhere, to anyone.  So, it leads one to believe he might be a wanna be, openly bragging about things that he’s never really done but, is seeking some “Hey, look at me!” time.

I personally have not served, although I have/had quite a few family members and friends serve or still serving in the Military, in combat and peacetime. A few were injured in combat resulting in varying disabilities. Knowing of their experiences, I am one to be very appreciative and supportive of all veterans, disabled veterans, …  so I see the possibility. Given the claims made recently and asking some of the aforementioned family and friends..I began thinking along those lines myself as I recalled how often in various threads/topics he keeps trying to push and entice(bait) players into Global Match Play/Dueling Tournaments, Challenges and variations of such, more though concerning WO:P.

I'm a doctor, I'm a lawyer, I'm a movie star. I'm an astronaut and I own this bar.  :D

Ever since Kenjr (and later, Voss) various online fighter combat sim communities have become wary. I suppose I'm as suspicious as most. Honestly, though, in our online world of anonymity, if someone has to wear a false persona as real life to impress me (or others) I just watch for it to turn into an advantage taking situation (as I suppose others do). If it never crosses that particular line, then confess/spin-yarn away and I'll do my best to smile and nod/ignore it. There are plenty of things I imagine I could have experienced in this world. As it turns out, I've had a rather vanilla/ho-hum/blessed life and I don't desire self-propping.

Hey Wardog, you were the first guy to shoot me down in AH and I always enjoy mixing it up with you!! BTW, thanks for not Vulching me when I ran out of gas mid fight and landed in the fields..

For clarity..
I served in the beloved Corps from '87 to '97. Parris Island Marine, Open contract, 0341 to Wpns Co 81's 2/2 after AIT. JEST in Panama then to Shawb, Okinawa first pump. Sent to FO/FAC school in Oki in '89. Flew over to Saudi in Sept '90 as FO attchd to E co 2/2, part of BLT2/2/26MEU (we spearheaded left hook in Desert Storm).
First exposure to Sarin was the PB pills we were forced to take which I reacted violently ill to, then again in March '91 when units a couple miles to our flank blew an enemy ammo bunker filled with gas, HE and more gas sending a mushroom cloud 10 miles up. Every personal alarm for 25 miles went crazy.. "ordered to shut off because it "was just a malfunction" It was denied that we were even exposed by the chiefs in the kitchen. Also, the effects were not really felt for the first 5 years. So pretty much yeah, it was suck it up marine, don't be a sick bay commando.  After Gulf war it was cold weather pack, Somalia for black hawk down rescue that got cancelled the day after landing. In '93 I shot a 248 of 250 on rifle range  and two weeks later I found myself at Sniper School quals. Finished top 2 in my class and at graduation was Voluntold that I would be advancing to STA with top 1 graduate. Fast forward to July 1995, insertion into Srebrenica, Bosnia and micro exposure #2.
Fast forward to 2004 in DesMoines Iowa, thought I had an aneurism and stroke. Doctors baffled didnt know what it was. Fast forward to 2016, Brain short circuits, lays me out. Wake up in Makati Med Hospital 5 days later. Neuro guy runs a test on a hunch based on my mil history. Test was developed over the years and was specific to Sarin Gas related exposures. And thats when I found out.. BTW, got out in 97 and turned down 10% from the VA like a love muffin and now they are denying treatment..
hope that provides some clarity my good man. Did you serve Dog? We can connect on TWS if you like.

The DA is still in AH. I specify Match Play Arena "free for all" mode over the Dualing Arena for specific reasons, they are:
1.) I really like the match play arena environment
2.) The Match Play Arena has enemy AI trying to kill you as well and makes the contest more challenging, more fun and really isn't an issue for a veteran.
3.) it more closely represents melee arena gameplay. A true test of skill to manage the environment, multiple enemy evasion while focusing on the opponent and staying alive.

SamYam justs wants to fit in and this, apparently, is his only way. I just hope he calms down a bit once he's beaten in match. After all, too much excitement can't be good for his open stomach wound from his SOG ops in Bosnia.

1.) Not on any mission to fit in anywhere.. I am that I am.
Marine Corps weren't yet combined into the multi-branch SOG back then young man. STA Marines were specific to Marine Battalions and were classified as MEUSOC  until 1996 when STA was disbanded and all Snipers were consolidated and designated Scout Snipers.

Stomach wound? My asophygus has eroded away and my digestive track is a nonstop open wound that never heals and is raked with stomach acid daily. Ever wake up drowning in stomach acid? Or have your brain freak out and send signals to all your pain receptors that you have broken every bone in your body?. It is fluff'ng miserable and i wouldnt wish it on any of my ex wives..

Can talk about it now because a.) Dont give a flying F about the NDA that expired in 2015 and  b.) no longer active or active reserve or otherwise employed by the govt.

Im sorry for your confusion Floob, allow me to clarify for you.

1.) Sarin gas is persistent when used in an enclosed area as it was in the school gymnasium to execute over a hundred boys and men aged 13 and up.  In an enclosed area the residuals retain toxicity for up to a month.
Yes, it was a subject of discussion at the trials but was not proved. Hell, i didnt even know about my exposure there until 2016.

Hairbrained Idea.... If you knew about the massacre intimately like you said then you would have understood better why a surgical strike from MEUSOC's STA teams were the best option to prevent further loss of life. You should have known that US Troops were not authorized to put boots on the  ground for fear of escalation with Russia. US involvement officially limited to providing air support and getting authorization was time consuming just for that.
When the UN's Ducth Orange brigade basically handed over Srebrenica the MEU unofficially sent in 3 seal teams and 3 sta teams. No Id, no tags, nothing that could connect you to US and abandoned if caught. But of course the Wiki isnt going to tell you that stud..

Floob he noob... the MEU designation is given to all Marine Corps Battalions at Camp Lejeune. 26th MEU specifically at that time had around 6 battalions. 3 on deployment and 3 in reserve having just come off deployment.. come on man, researching wike will just make you a wrong assumer.

As for the rest of you jackazzes. You had my respect until you questioned my integrity, my time in service and my sacrifices.. you are welcome, i sacrafice my life, my health willingly and fought for your right and freedom to insult me so deeply without fear of persicution. Let me guess, you are all Nancy Pelosi fans right. Wardog, im dissapointed in your last few comments as you jumoed on the bandwagon of warrior bashers..

And yeah, Ive seen you all in MA as you zoom in for a cheap shot while Im taking off and then dragging me to your cv or field so your flack can shoot me down.. just shows  your lack of skill, your desire to let others do your dirty work for you.. and Yes, I will always chase you down and engage you amidst a firestorm of your ack because I just dont give a F and a Marine never runs from a fight.  Quit running away and hiding behind yer mommys flack.. is it because you dont want to face being shot down by me and my hanger queen planes? Because I'm now known as the DeYaker?? Taking out all yaks in my lawnmower I16? Mmm hmmm i like the way that yak burn mmmm hmmm. .

How did I know you weren't shooting at me?  Simple, I was above and behind you both times. So unless you loaded a gunner in your p51, you didn't have a shot.

So how did you know I was in the pony?  Because I was the only one there. And we got proxies on each other.
