Title: Game keeps crashing
Post by: Addy9 on October 20, 2019, 11:42:56 PM
I am having a heck of a time keeping AH from not crashing....What is happening is the screens will go black, then go white...still have all audio. Have to use the windows key and  then close the game. Specs on the machine is AMD Ryzen 7 2700x...stock clocks and water cooled with a deepcool gammaxx L240v2, MSI b450 gaming pro carbon ac MB, 16g viper dual channel 3200mhz ram (it is approved ram) and a sapphire rx590 nitro+ se oc 8gb at stock clocks ( 1560mhz gpu 2100mhz ram) and an evga supernova 850 g+ ps, all in a deepcool case with 4 120mm fans ( not including the 2 gpu fans and 2 rad fans...so a total of 8 120mm fans). Lastest bios on MB, lastest AMD drivers. I have an eyeinfinity array at 5900x1080. At first, thought it was a driver issue, a new driver was just released..it is installed ( as it loads terrains and transitions to the tower after entering arena...I get some nasty flickering)...no change, played with wattman for the power and fan controls, as I thought I was maybe overheating....got rid of the ramp up in gpu clock and run full speed just of idle and fans are going full bore by 63degs...and upped the power to try and see if maybe it was a power draw causing the instability. I am not overheating...during furmark burning in at full res...I never go over 63 degs at 100% gpu load for over 30 mins and it is rock solid. All in game  graphic setting are at default settings...sometimes I can fly for an hour, other times 10 mins. This machine should be able to handle the graphics turned up a fair bit, but cant get  it stable at stock settings...I have run out of ideas...any help would be appreciated

My personal favourite to start all fixes is to shut down the computer by pressing the Shift button while clicking Shut Down. That fixes many corrupted Windows settings.

Forgive me, I know nothing about AMD hardware, but have you tried running on a single screen? If it's stable there, chances are it's in the setup/configuration of the monitors. Seems to me, that 5900 wide is a mix and match setup as well.

Good luck.

Look for a .dmp file in the Aces High temp directory.

Zip it up and attach it to a post or email it to support@hitechcreations.com .

Also curious what frame rate you're getting and how it works with one monitor.

...

When you  do bezel correction you get some funny resolutions. It's not a likely problem.

the monitors are all matched acer sb22oq monitors...eyefinity set 5932x1080...I recalculated it to the actual monitors resolution and set it to 5760x1080. freesync is also enabled ( they are freesync monitors) I cant remember how to display in game frame rates, but in furmark at 5760x1080 I average 64fps at 100% gpu load

Frame rate in game is CTRL i.

Have you compared DX9 and DX11 versions?

When AH crashes it creates a file with a .dmp extension.

HTC can look at that and maybe see the problem if you send them the file.

I just tried to send the .dmp files...there is 6 of them, and apparently too large to send at 55,000kb each....Ok i zipped up a copy of the folder and sent it

Just checked in game frame rates....depending on view ( internal...external and over water, land, forests) the lowest it seems to go is 60 and up to 150+fps

If you have Win10 anytime you have a problem try rebooting in case there was a background update.

Frame rates look good.

Did you compare DX9 and DX11?  AH3 has shortcuts for both in the start menu.

I have been doing reboots...with out it, even after I close the game I get screen flickering...only ever happens if I go into AH. I must being thick today..I cant find any option for dx9 or 11 when I start the game..

The windows start menu where it shows Aces High, not the game start menu. There should be links for DX9 and DX11. It defaults to DX11. Try DX9.

I used to run eyefinity fine.  With your frame rate exceeding 150 it makes me think you have something unchecked rather than locking the FPS to the monitor refresh rate.  I seem to remember there was an option in the AH graphics settings that allowed you to turn off Z refresh rate??

Maybe worth looking at

Max framerate tells us how hard the system is working. His monitors are 75hz, he can set V-sync and cap at 75 but he'll get less latency with v-sync off. Freeplay should keep him smooth.

dx9 or dx11 make no difference...Hopfully the support folks will get back to me soon

If the dmp. file doesn't have the answer the only other things I can think of to try is Freeplay off, different driver versions, or setting your OC videocard to stock clock speeds.

Also while I'm debugging rename your Settings folder I.E Rename the Settings folder in /hitech creations/aces high iii

After work tonight I will try the card on its other bios setting. If that works then obviously a card issue which will make me cranky. Lol.
Just rename the folder to anything?  Ie “setting2”?

That's fine. The game will create a new settings folder. Then you can run the game and see if it still crashes.

I think I have the issue solved. First thank you to everyone for the help.

I tried the slower bios on the card, still was having issues. Decided to start fresh and use DDU and clean out the drivers. Reinstalled the newest driver, set everything up stock settings, set up my eyefinity display group, no change. Wiped the drivers again with DDU, and let windows update find a driver this time. Everything was stable. Checked the driver version, and it is an older one from about 6 months ago. searched the net for one from around that time with the adrenalin software. Found 19.2.2 release and installed. Everything was nice and stable. Set up my eyefinity display group and that is when everything goes all wonky ( highly technical term! lol). Disable the display group...back to solid platform. So this is an AMD graphics issue, and makes me not terribly pleased as I chose AMD specifically for the built in multi monitor support.  I knew I should have gone with an nvidia card and a matrox triple head set up!!!

You don't need matrox triple head to use nvidia, they have triple monitor support same as AMD.

AMD triple monitors usually work with AH. If it's a driver issue you may see a fix in a new driver or a different old one.

Does the VC have two power connectors?

Have you tried freesync off?

Have you tried one monitor?

vsync made no difference, yes I have both power connectors on the vc plugged in. Unplugging the other two monitors seems to make a difference.

Can you turn freesync off on the monitors or VC when you use all three? I'm guessing freesync might just work with one monitor, not all three at once.

I will try that next...giving it at good go on a long buff run...no issues so far

it is definitely the multi monitors.....did a couple of hours tonight with just one plugged in...rock solid, even saw frame rates over 300 ( with the VC on the slow bios)...tomorrow try no freesync...and other monitor settings

It is definitely multi monitors....I can't seem to find a setting that works to keep it stable. It just doesnt like it, and sends the computer into fits when AH has been opened...it is fine the rest of the time...  Thanks for all the help

Is there a setting to turn freesync off on the monitor menus or in the video card driver?
Title: Re: Game keeps crashing
Post by: Addy9 on October 26, 2019, 08:58:58 PM
I did that...it helps...seems to keep the game playable....but I still have to reboot after to stop the flickering ...and still does some nasty flickering when I enter an arena....but seems to be playable....just spent the last 1.5 hrs getting my butt handed to me...lol

Finally fully solved...FLS thanks for the help...it was your ideas that got it sorted ( when I get frustrated my thought process isn't the best...lol. and this whole computer build was a nightmare as I have been out of it for awhile...didnt realize ryzen processors cant handle 32g of 3200mhz memory...talk about crash city!!!). What I found....if you turn off freesync in the driver it doesn't always turn off or stay off, and freesync (after a bunch of googling...I cant believe that is an actual word now...lol) doesn't like multiple monitors. Went into each monitors built in menu and physically turned off freesync on each one. Now everything is running smooth. So if anyone running an AMD gpu, with multiple monitors is having crashing and fickering issues, turn off freesync on the monitors them self. I would like to Thank Dale ( HiTech) as well for helping
