Title: Going To Fly USAF C-130J Air Force Simulator Tomorrow
Post by: MrGeezer on December 29, 2019, 10:51:45 PM: Thanks to an old high school friend (a retired Lt. Col. who teaches new C-130J pilots) I will be traveling to Little Rock AFB tomorrow to fly the C-130J simulator. I only have about an hour on the simulator, but will take many photos /videos because no one would believe me if I didn't. GOAL: At least one successful take off and one successful landing.

Photos forthcoming.....wish me luck.

C-130J loop video. Pretty cool to see these birds still flying after all these years.

I could have looped it but we just didn't have enough time. The people before us went over their time alotment, so I only had a half hour to do touch & go's, take off 3 times and land 4 times...one of the landings was done on the base's shortest runway. This would not be possible had it not been that my high school friend is a C130J flight instructor at Little Rock Air Force Base. He sat in the right hand seat and assisted me with flaps and landing gear so I could concentrate on the HUD Heads Up Display. Makes it easy to fly when you have a retired Lt. Col in the co-pilot's seat!

Piles was a crewman in a C130 until he retired recently. A radio operator, I think. He likes that bird, too.

It's not in the simulator software. Only known AFB and airfields abroad in combat zones can be used. (I.E.) Gitmo, Kandahar, etc.
