Was flying a FW 190 a-8 the other day when I sighted an enemy 262 far below.
I dove to catch it. I went fast. Really fast. The cockpit was shaking itself to pieces and elevator control was zip.
My aircraft had entered into full compression and as I was gaining on the 262. I eventually leveled out just
over the ground. At some point I had seen a speed of over 575+ mph I was frankly amazed the plane held together
and this got me to wondering just how fast you can actually drive an A-8.
Off-line testing got it up to 607 mph...and I don't think I'd like to try and reach that number in the arena.

Describing dive testing a FW in 1943 from nearly 30K alt down to half that at an angle of 80 to 60 degrees. :x
Compression was experienced and they recorded a speed of 567 mph.
Anyone got good dive numbers on Aces High Planes? :airplane:

The FW-190 test you linked specifies 2300 RPM and cruise power if you want to compare results, but it would be good to know which model they tested. The test was in 1943 so it's might be an A-5.

If I recall correctly and the modeling hasn't changed, something breaks on the D-9 at 608.

I'm sure you already know this (but in case you don't) when your aircraft is in full compression, use the trim keys to maneuver.

The A8 in AH can do pretty much the same as the A5 (615-ish), the ME-262 can't pull out of a dive at 600, but it can turn at 570, something the A-series cannot.
Probably the best blow-job catcher with a propeller in-game
