I downloaded everything, and when I open your tool I can get the area on the globe I want. I run the export and when I try to open the terrain in AHEdit, it doesn't resemble China, Burma, or India.
More like South Dakota or Nebraska.

Can you be more specific about what you mean wrt "Nebraska and South Dakota"...do you mean its all flat or all farms or what?
I just tried grabbing a section from CBI. I used Lat-43 long-83 and width-25 (just a guess). I had no trouble getting the region into the AH editor and it appears correct (yeah, I know that doesn't help you).
Couple things to try/check:
1. Have you set your terrain size in the AH editor to 512x512. My stuff gets output in that size.
2. Check a file called terr.bmp in the AH Editor's terrain folder that contains your CBI map. That bmp is output by the AH Editor and it gives you and *upside down* elevation plot of the region the AH Editor has loaded. Its hard to read real well tho b/c the scale is tight but you should be able to make out major features.
I can send you my *.typ and *.elv files if you think they will help you diagnose.
