I'm been thinking..(my god it hurts !)
I'd love to make a pacific terrain.
A Small region....like Oahu and 100 miles north and south.
Hmmm. but how to make carriers ?
OK.. OGRE how about this ?
Is the AH resolution high enough that I can create a small rectangular hill (the carrier) with a runway on top with a "carrier" texture applied ?
Or will I have to wait till we can add custom objects to the terrain ?
I have a few carrier objects in "lightwave" format and they are waiting to be brought to life.
I'm willing to help anyone who is already working on this.

I think you will have to wait until HTC generates this capability.
Right now the minimum resolution of the AH terrain is 0.5x0.5 miles. This means that you can create a flat-hill that measures 0.5x0.5 miles on the top surface. You would have to use the existing object set to texture it and put a field on it.
AFAIK, HTC has said they will permit user-created textures in the future, but I've not heard anything about user-created objects (I suspect this would be much harder to implement).

I thought I would just create a couple of strips to the north to simulate the carriers. Until HTC added carriers, then I would delete the dirt (Fake Island)

That is the essence of my idea.
I was thinking of an flat topped/cliff sided island that with custom textures might help it look like an carrier.
BUT with a 1/2 mile resolution...it would make it a pretty huge carrier (maybe 2 miles x .5 miles to make the right shape)
I was hoping it might be a way to make it work until the real thing gets implemented.
Oh well !
Ogre:
I can see why vehicles would be difficult
but static objects with default damagability might not be too bad. (i.e. similar objects could have same damage values)
That way HTC would decide damage etc. and
let us make some "custom" objects
Obviously useless speculation without knowledge of the coding and complete thought as to the implications.

BTW Ogre very nice work !
