Title: black out from G loads
Post by: Vinkman on March 25, 2020, 04:08:27 PM
Do all plane have the same black out limits? Or is pilot position and G-suits factored into when each plane enters a blackout?

Good question.

All G-limits for pilots seem the same for me, I haven't seen any difference.

It's 6G for blackout for all aircraft. You can hit it momentarily but sustaining it will black you out. You start to black out by sustaining near 6G.

An F-16 pilot I flew with once told me that after you get used to it 6G feels like 4G did when you started.

With that question, does a pilot’s position have a significant influence on Gs and if so can it be modeled?

In some cases it is modeled already. If you fall out of your plane.... when you hit the ground you will see how much coffee is in the.pot in the tower.

Reclined seat position, pilot conditioning, morphology, and fatigue all affect G tolerance but are not modeled.

I'm guessing seat position could be modeled if you'd like to put it on the wish list.

I haven't seen any data on the difference just a general comment regarding the FW-190 series.

It would be nice to have some things like G-forces modeled "better" so that some planes like the 190 could have more of an advantage.

How much more of an advantage does a 190 need?

This.  Although it's a bit "gamey" I don't think it's a bad idea that some things are consistent across the board.

What would be the correct difference in G tolerance?

Perk doras if you need to, 2-5 points. It would definitely be a welcome boost to the A and F series.

So then those who fly more are more tolerant.....

I was also reading the WWII corsairs had an early version of a G-suit. difference could be modeled that are aricraft design factors, like G-suits and pilot positions.  :salute

What seat position might that be?

The low seat position in the FW-190 had the pilot's legs higher than normal for that time. This reportedly made G tolerance easier but I haven't seen any comparative numbers. I'd be surprised if it was changed from the current model where everybody is the same.

Nor should it be, imo. Its not like 190s aren't already fairly prevalent.

G-suit or not, I think it would be helpful to make the pilots less G tolerant. If anything so I don't black out all the time when I switch to IL-2 or DCS lol

Careful what you wish for. Dale works from home now and may be prone to experimenting more.
