A great % of the D-9's did not have MW-50 installed due to shortages, and those who did not have it, were not faster than the A-model.

Add to that, most German pilots were newbies late-44.

Interesting, I think I might be related to that pilot - the tempest lead (last name, born close to where my family is from, similar looks). He might be a great uncle or something. Gonna go dig up info from the cuzzies.
